Billy Preston: Most likely the next LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I will give Koby credit for the players he brought in to summer league. Preston, mathias and Bonzi. We never had anything decent in the summer league before

I think we need to do a better job with summer league and d league

I think the NBA is missing the boat with the one and dones. They could have a pretty good D league when all of a sudden you have some top High school prospects playing in it. Needs to be set up as more as a farm team.
I think it would help with parity in the NBA. Insteead of just spending money and be in a major market teams like cleveland, milwaukee, sacramento etc could compete better based on how well their scouting is.

You're being too generous.

If he was that great, that much of a top 10 pick, he would've been drafted at the very least in the 2nd round.

Basically, I'm not buying the top 10 stuff one bit. Cavs did not get lucky as fuck here. I hope they did, but I live in the reality of Cleveland not having supreme luck like this.

More realistically he was probably a top 20 pick that could have jumped into the late lottery with a good showing in college. I dunno though. He has a great frame, is a good rebounder, and can push the ball. His best feature is his legitimately smooth jumper. 6'10" with a great jumper and athleticism.

I think his tools are better than Porter Jr. It is his brain that is going to hold this guy back. People compare him to Whiteside, which i think is apt. The problem is that this is Whiteside before he did all that maturing in the Gleague.

When I first read about the Cavs and Preston, I almost immediately thought of the Miami Heat getting lucky with Hassan Whiteside. Although Whiteside was drafted, the King gave up on him way too soon. Could the Cavs franchise have some good fortune after 40 years?

Right now we're all just guessing what Preston will develop into.
In truth, the intangibles make the big difference, and that is a mystery right now. What we do know are the basketball skills he already has seemed to develop.
He checks a lot of boxes.
He definitely has NBA size. Very good shooter for a big man. Good ball handler. Very good athlete. Floor awareness.
You don't get to be a 5 star prospect just because you can dunk. Unusual circumstances led to this kid not getting drafted. Not lack of skills.
What happens to those skills are up to himself, and the Cavs organization. He could be the next Kevin Garnett. Or the next Bill Willoughby.

Our young guy lineup plus Bron looks intriguing to say the least.

Sexton
Cedi
Bron
Preston
Zizic

I get the feeling he just couldn't adjust to the European style of basketball. It's night and day compared to the high-school hero ball.

Did he play high school hero ball?

He didn't exhibit this in the three preseason games he played. nor n the three euro league games he played in which 2 he had started.

It was an adjustment playing European ball. He said as much,

your just talking basketball clichés and not really about Billy Preston.

He was a top 20 recruit going into college. showed a lot of accuracy shooting the ball with talent around him and a McDonalds All Star. This guy has the pedigree of the other one and dones just not the games.

I don't think the expectation that he could go through summer camp and have a good showing that turns into a preseason roster spot is much of an expectation. Wanting to see where this guy is compared to the other rookies around the league isn't very unreasonable.

Koby's Scout team had this guy on their radar and snatched him up

as multiple people mentioned its a low risk potentially high reward move.

Has nothing on that 22 win team.

That's great news! Based on the final NBA regular season standings from this past season, 22 wins would tie the Cavs with Memphis for the second worst record. We would keep our draft pick that the Hawks now own.

nor n the three euro league games he played in which 2 he had started.

Not sure if by this you meant a 'European league' or the 'Euroleague', but... His team didn't play in the Euroleague, nor in the 2nd tier European competitions like the Eurocup or the FIBA Champions League. He played 3 games in the domestic Adriatic league which is like the 7th or 8th strongest competition in Europe (and his team finished 10th out of 12 in that league). Just wanted to make that clear. But yeah, you raise some good points, I might be judging him too harshly. Let's wait for the SL instead :)

Love will stay ..

Dinwiddie is no longer the GOAT. It's now Billy Preston.

He became the GOAT so quickly, we're gonna call him Presto!

All joking aside, I'm stoked for SL!
