Billy Preston: Most likely the next LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
scrolling through his twitter he seems like the biggest Lebron stan I have ever seen. It's actually touching. You just don't see many of them.

He joined the Cavs to play with his idol. Imagine if he pans out? lol...what a story that would be.

You know the only way this can go is Preston joining the Cavs in hopes of playing with LeBron, and LeBron leaving this summer because the world is a cruel place...

I was going to make a snarky comment about a multi page thread on an undrafted rookie with little chance of making the team, but I’ll admit, he’s intriguing.

Another tough luck Cleveland story:banghead::banghead:

No risk, potential high reward. He's intriguing. Some work needs to be done, but will be interesting. I guess he dropped out of some 5 on 5 workouts. Some speculated he did that so he wouldn't be drafted and that he had a certain team in mind. Could have been the Cavs. I've read there's scuttlebutt that LBJ really likes him as well, though I don't think that counts for much. I think he's been at skill academies with LeBron, so he's likely met him.

From all I read and watch about this guy, I find it hard to get excited. An elite athlete with shitty actual basketball skills and IQ, so it seems. Does not actually fill any need this team has. The most important one being defense.

He might develop into a good player with a lot of work. But looking at our ability to develop young talent with this staff, that seems like a pipe dream.

The only real positive I can draw from it currently is his drive and motivation to be on a LeBron team. Looks like this guy is ready to put everything on the line and grind hard to improve and play with Bron.
BUT, with LeBron's status being still uncertain, that can be gone too.

I wouldn't call his shooting ability nor his handle shitty for a guy that is 6'10 and 19 years old... JMO

If he stick around, definitely would be 12-18 months before he was prepared to play minutes in any portion of a meaningful* regular season game. But no risk in getting a look at him. If he seems capable of taking instruction and acting like a professional, than definitely sign him to a two way deal or possibly 15th man on the roster depending on how the ready of the offseason plays out.

Preston has met some NBA players already!
Who is Preston standing next to in that picture?

I wouldn't be so quick to declare this guy as a g league project.
I would like to see him in summer league where he will have just as many games played as he did since he committed to Kansas.

guy only played 3 games in euro league cause he injured his shoulder

He's going to be 21 when the season starts.

His skills are real. IQ and desire are the question marks. He played just a few minutes in Kansas in the preseason and scored 30pts in 40 min and only missed a handful of shots.

His rebounding might be a real strength too.

He's going to have a great SL and some other team will sign him.

Do the Cavs have any contractual agreement with Preston beyond he will play in the summer league for the Cavs?

I looked at the articles about him playing for the Cavs summer league and none of them state anything about a contract of any sort. I wouldn't be worried about a team picking him off from us though. We will get multiple practices with him before anyone else sees him. Koby will be aware of the situation and we have a solid group of NBA level talent to throw at him in practice to properly test him.
