Bonzie Colson: Soon to be eating Draymond's lunch

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He is 6’5”.
What’s his position again?

He has a 7'1 wingspan.

He is definitely a PF and plays like one.

I like players with low center of gravity that have long wingspans to compensate...though they usually have strong legs...and he doesn't.

It does look like 90% of his body weight is from the waist up.

There’s someone he reminds me of but I’m blanking in who that is at the moment

Dude doesn't screen...all he does it slip lol

For him it's like slip screen, post up and ask for the ball and go to work. Every time. He is terrific at it, especially against a switch...although he struggles with double teams.

His problem is his weak lower body imo.
Can only judge from vision i've seen he seems well timed on his rolls and cuts through the key.

Looks to have super weird body proportions as he looks really skinny down low and almost out of shape up top.

What position do you see him playing in the NBA should he stick to a roster?

Definitely PF.

His game is very heavy on post ups because he is excellent at it. Capable outside, mid range and short range jump shooter though and should transition into more of that in the NBA in time.

Defensively, Notre Dame just hedged every PnR so there isn't tons of data to go by as far as other defensive play styles. In limited data he hasn't showed great lateral quickness in Isolation.

We will see...I definitely see some potential.

Yeah i agree he definitely plays a PF game, but gotta worry if he is seriously only 6'5.

Has the wingspan to make up for a bit of it though.

I actually wouldnt be surprised if he had a decent standing reach for his height though cos this dude is missing about 3 inches of neck, he should be a legit 6'8 with normal proportions lol

He went undrafted for a reason. Hold your horses.
In previous years Mathias, Colson, and Preston would have been drafted. They all would have been second rounders, though Preston might have been a late first in a less deep draft.

Since the NBA Draft is so short, getting drafted has to be measured against your class. Time will tell, but going into the Draft the consensus was that this was one of the deepest drafts in a very long time.

In regards to Colson, the thread title is misleading because the video hits on who he compares to: PJ Tucker. That's a solid comparison.

And that means Colson is not going to come in and start at PF like Green did. Draymond is a perennial All Star. Colson is not going to be that. Could he be PJ Tucker, a guy who can play hard as a rotation guy, play guys tough, and knock down some shots? Sure. But Tucker has never been a scorer and never averaged double digits.

T-Ball also concluded that Mathias could be a slightly better version of Harris - and I agree.

It's worth remembering that Korver was picked at 51. He may have gone undrafted in a class as deep as 2018 - and he was only 9 picks away from that happening. There's no massive drop off from 50 to 70, so undrafted doesn't necessarily mean much.

47% of all active NBA players were not drafted in the first round. Most of them are not stars, many are solid rotation players. Jeremy Lin, Udonis Haslem, Ben Wallace, Bruce Bowen, Raja Bell, Mike James, and many others were undrafted in the past. Undrafted players can make an impact. Are the odds in favor of it? No. But can it happen? Yep.

The best way to see one of them deliver is to have a large group play for you. That's what the Cavs are doing. Will Colson, Preston, and Mathias all pan out? Highly unlikely. Could one of them pan out over time? That's possible. Preston does have the potential to be special, but he will also require the most work. I think Mathias has a decent chance at being a solid rotation player. Colson is the one I think that is least likely to be a worthwhile NBA player.

Early Dwight Howard was one of those guys. He looked like he was going to snap any moment back then.

But you're probably thinking of Tyson Chandler.

OK...this dude clearly skipped legs day!

He looks like he ate everyone's lunch on the entire GS team

IS he in good shape? Are his upper body muscles just round? He legit looks like a fat guy and a skinny guy switched legs. His body movements seems awkward, and yet is a monster on the boards and can shoot the hell out of the ball. Go figure.
