Browns 2018 Season Reboot Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Cleveland Browns

Home: Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, Bills, Dolphins, Rams, Seahawks, Titans

Away: Bengals, Ravens, Steelers, Jets, Patriots, 49ers, Cardinals, Broncos

11-5 next year. Calling my shot now.

So... losses? Rams and Seahawks at home, Rats, Pats, and Steelers on the road?

Didn't even consider that before, but our WR's seemed to put a lot more effort into blocking than do many others.
That's one thing they learned quickly with Nick Chubb. He runs well after first contact, so the WRs better be blocking downfield.

Antonio Callaway also ranks as an above average run blocker and the 35th best blocking receiver in the NFL.

My guess is, if you look at Chubb's stats when both Landry and Callaway are on the field, they are a lot better than one or neither is on the field. That's for two reasons: first, they're both good run blockers; second, their presence clears up the middle of the field.

Njoku and Duke also rank above average. Higgins and Perriman, though, well, let's just say they are not good

Everyone thinks we need to draft a WR in the first 3 rounds, but WR's usually have bad year 1's followed by huge jumps their 2nd or 3rd year. Calloway has the talent to be a top WR and Landry is a great possession receiver.

Throw in Higgins and probably keeping Perriman, and I just don't see the need. Sure take another risk in round 4 or 5 if someone is there, but I rather use the draft capital elsewhere. Maybe Keep Robinson for now and draft a starting RT in the 3rd round, but get me some LB's and DT's in the first 2 rounds please, everything we can do to help the defense catch up to the offense.

The case could be made that Higgins is better than Landry right now.

This WR class is pretty deep. I'm looking at one of the guys that may fall for our puck in the third round. I'm really hoping Hakeem Butler or Riley Ridley are still there, but we'll see how they all stack up after the combine. Either way, would like a larger receiver that could high point a ball.

Round one and two get defensive players (DL/LB) unless an OT drops, round three one of the WR and either OL or CB.

high pointing is nice, but already have njuko that can do that, and DeValve who couldn't get on the field.

That said, with 2 3rd round picks, I wouldn't mind a 3rd round WR if a 1st round talent drops. Really like to see us go defense the first 2 rounds though.

Theres a gap between the type of player DeValve is and an outside receiver with plus size like Devin Funchess, Arcega-Whiteside, or Butler.

DeValve is a tight end who doesn't block well and doesn't threaten in the pass game as well as either Fells or Njoku. It was also pretty clear that Orson Charles is a valued blocker and a core special teams player. You have to beat out the players in front of you because few teams are going to trot out formations with four tight ends.

I get it, just saying Njuko is our high point guy, and Seth couldn't get on the field because he wasn't good enough, but he was a high point guy too.

There are only a handful of outside receivers who are good high point receivers. I would love to have one, but they are not as easy to find and not sure how many are available that turn into a good receiver. Rather use our first 2 round picks on something else and that what it will take to get a receiver to do this.
