Browns intend to sign CB T.J Carrie

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Who is everyone? All I've seen is praise for the Browns offseason so far. We've been nailing it and a good draft will solidify a fantastic, hopefully franchise changing offseason.

Well I guess I’ll rephrase that, why are some people complaining about the moves (there is some on here that are still being negative when we are making moves that need to be made. It’s like what else do you want?

Because not all the moves were flawless, and thus there will be some criticism.

NFL contracts are mostly non-guaranteed.

Oh I realize. I was just shocked at the $15 million guaranteed in this deal and some of the guaranteed money on the depth moves.

I’m happy with a lot of these moves. I defended all the trades.

I love the Hubbard move. I love the Hyde move.

We’ve just made a few head scratchers though, too.

We aren’t afraid to spend, which I like. However, I don’t want us to toe the edge of being fiscally reckless either.

Carrie is definitely a starter with that contract.

Jamar Taylor (5.25M in 2018) is almost certainly gone. McCourty (3.5M) might be gone if they draft a another cornerback high. Who knows what this regime thinks of Howard Wilson or Mike Jordan?

I wouldn't imagine this effects Boddy-Calhoun that much. He's making peanuts and has been a solid player.

Browns fans, of all people, complaining about spending recklessly. After watching a tankfest the last few years.

I say bring on cap hell if it means we get to have an NFL roster this year. Spend it all. Would I like to be the Chiefs the past few years? Yes, absolutely I would.

Dorsey is aggressive and I'm loving it. Keep the train rolling.

I understand this guy isn't as good as the 2 CB that signed for 15 million and 13 million a year but I would rather have him at 7 million then them 2 at 15/13. You cant play average players that much.

What is the rank of positions in importance?- I based on franchise player pay

Millions
1. QB 23
2. DEs 17
3. WR 16
3. Tackles 15
5. CBs 15
6. LBs 15
7. DTs 13
8. Guards 12
9. RBs 11
10. Ss 11.5
11. Center 11
12. TE 10

His contract is basically one year and could easily but cut after year one. The rest of it is non guaranteed money.

I don't think it's a bad thing to have a little competition. How many times in the past few years has mediocre talent been given the starting job. At least now, you have 5 or 6 CBs compete for the starting job and make it an actual competition. Plus injuries happen, so even if McCourtey or BBC have currently lost their jobs, they are one tweaked hamstring away from getting it back. I wouldn't cut Taylor or McCourtey until preseason (unless a signing bonus is involved).

This guy is ranked 29th best FA by CBS. 6th best CB. Breeland was ranked 24th and 5th best CB. I think the contract is pretty good compared to the other 5.

Anyone want to take a crack at the depth chart for our secondary?

I personally would like to keep McCourty as a veteran presence.

If no one else is signed and Taylor gets cut.

1a - Carrie, Mitchell, Wilson
1b - BC, McCourty, Jordan

FS - Randall, Nacua
SS - Peppers, Kindred

I would put McCourty over Boddy-Calhoun and right now I would say he’s CB1, but otherwise that looks about right.

McCourty
Carrie
Boddy-Calhoun
Mitchell
Jordan
Wilson

Is how I see it.

If they draft Ward, he immediately slides into the CB1 spot and bumps everyone down one notch.

With Fitzpatrick being most comfortable and productive at slot corner, not sure if he’s truly in the mix anymore unless they are certain he can play outside at the same high level he does inside.

Yeah, they need to acquire another corner through a trade or the draft for sure. They need another guy.

Ward would be my pick. The Browns do have the chance to move up and get a 3rd first-round pick with those 2nd-round picks and the other assets.

I would love this outcome..

QB
Chubbs
Ward
