Browns Interrrrim coach Gregggg Williams

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So he won a press conference.

Do we like him for on the field?

Yes. He's very aggressive and attacking with success, as evidenced by that stat that Pro Football Journal tweeted out.

It puts more pressure on the secondary, which will have to be improved, but he puts his personnel in the best positions to win.

If I'm a front 7 player, this is the kind of guy I'd want to play for. The days of laying back in a cover 2, dropping guys like Kruger into a zone and praying someone gets home are over.

As a coordinator, he is similar to this successful coordinator...

Why did he come to Cleveland?

Hue Jackson gave him autonomy with the defense, there's actually some decent young players, they are about to sign Jamie Collins, etc. Mostly, I'd say that he's got the opportunity to control an entire side of the ball. Williams has a reputation for changing cultures on the defensive side of the football and is a mentor to a lot of players when they are placed on his squad (he said he gets about 200 calls on Father's Day). He's been a very good NFL coach since 1990 who has played against Hue's offenses enough to know that he's the type of guy he wants to work with (his words). I know where you're going with it, but some people don't just go easiest route.

I'm not going anywhere with it!

I'm curious.

How about 5 buttered-up Wieners get a 3s head start on Swagger?... Whatever happens, happens..

I prefer "Grreg Williams."

Yes? No?

Buehler?

This is actually encouraging to me. It certainly doesn't hurt to take these things into consideration.

While I'm not a huge fan of Gregg as a DC (his scheme just seems overly aggressive and easy to beat), I thought he coached a good game yesterday. We didn't seem to have any clock management issues and we were willing to be aggressive on fourth down. The team also seemed more prepared than usual, although it will remain to be seen if that was a short-term boost from firing Hue or if Gregg actually focuses on what the team did wrong the previous week and fixing it, which I never got the sense Hue cared enough to do.

Our defense was awful yesterday but we were also playing the best offense in the league and ravaged by injuries, so hard to take a lot away from it.
