Browns moving downtown?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The reason why there isn't more development by Burke is because Federal Regulation prevent you from building structures that are a certain height by airports. There have been people who for years have wanted to build high rise condo's and developments but are prevented from building anything taller than like 5 stories because of where the airport is located.

Honestly if the stadium gets torn down and Burke closes that whole area should be a giant park and housing. maybe add a few business or hotels there too.

There's not enough room, but damn it would be cool to have it right next to The Q and Progressive Field.

Throw in a few nice bars and restaurants right there, and boom, one of the nicest and most state of the art sports blocks on the planet.
Im not sure how much space would be needed, but on the other side of 90 (I want to say Ontario & 9th) would be a decent spot. If I recall the post office is there and other junk.

If not, this is the perfect opportunity to get Burke back & truly build up our lakefront property.

These sketches shows how a stadium the size of Browns stadium or Lucas Oil stadium could be situated on the other side of the Innerbelt across from Jacobs Field, and integrated with the RTA rail lines. Even as a multipurpose facility with a roof or retractable roof, there is no need for it to sit on valuable lakefront property - it should be easy to access from highways and rapid transit, and this location fits that bill. It opens up the Lakefront and the Muni lots for development - both are criminally underdeveloped for their location.
Wish I saw this a few minutes ago, this is exactly what I was talking about.

If not a roof, then at least enclosed walkways. I hate walking through there feeling like I'm getting an icicle shoved up my ass.

Speak for yourself. Until you can find me another organization who has done it or will do it, they won't and it's futile to expect it. I'll join the rally to get people against you.

Either way, bad football is better than no football if you're a football fan.
The new Rams/Chargers stadium is privately funded. The Falcons and 49ers new stadiums were mostly privately funded. Met Life Stadium was 100% private. The Warriors new arena is 100% private.

Meanwhile, St. Louis lost a team as did Oakland. I'm not willing to be a knob over it to force the Browns' hand.

I think it's a myth that the lake front property is valuable. There is a large plot of land right next to Burke lake front that has been for sale for years.

I'm pretty sure this isn't true. If you're talking about the Aviation High School, it's about the zoning around an airport.... Not a whole lot can be erected with what's in place. I went to college with the Ward 13 councilman; we've discussed Burke at length many times.

I also fail to see how taking away the one major landmark the lakefront has (the stadium) increases the value.

Lakefront property being occupied by something that has nothing to do with the lakefront. The old Great Lakes expo center would do better than FES.

A group of us went to Ford Field for the the Browns-Lions game this past season.

We sat there in semi-awe and depression. It was an awesome venue and blew what we have in Cleveland out of the water. There needs to be a dome here in town.

Also, if anyone has been to a game in Philly, they have a great area where all the stadiums are in the same complex with parking between each venue along with a food/drink/bar complex there as well. It was a great setup.

PHilly's stadium situation was purposefully done to keep Philadelphia sports fans segregated from the general population before and after sporting events. Or at least thats how it felt when I went there.

Again, domes are wonderful- but I can't see it being justified in an area that only recently stopped sliding economically to be spending 1b on a dome for a facility used 10 times a year. America's insanity with publically financed sports venues has to stop somewhere.

The Indians and Browns both need retractable roofs and it makes no sense financially to not have them share a facility when they both could use a new one in 10 years in a poor town. The upper bowl seats could retract into drink rails for the Indians. The man bunners would love it.

but the one thing that cleveland has going for it (unlike philly), is that the indians and cavs are already in the heart of downtown next to all of the bars. Then where the browns play is still only .75 miles away, but still in downtown. Where the philly sports teams play is still 3 miles from the central downtown area. A length no one would ever consider walking (sober).

As a tourist my complaint about the city of cleveland (besides and airport in the middle of fucking no where) is that the year round entertainment/historical stuff is separated enough from downtown its a hassle to go visit them. In the immediate area you have casino, sporting events, bars, food, breweries but there isnt a huge amount to do that isnt drinking related (rock and roll hall of fame being the exception). Moving the browns .75 miles closer to the indians/cavs doesnt change a damn thing, unless its being done to bring something else to the direct downtown area. Move the national history museum downtown? Or put a couple more stops on that rapid thing (or whatever its called). Drop it off at the aquarium, drop it off at the art museum /national history museum. However moving the browns stadium so its right next to the indians/cavs is a move that by itself doesnt really gain much.

It's a 4+ acre piece of land that is east of Burke lake front. It's sandwich by two Marinas. The listing says it's been for sale for 3 years but I think it's been on sale for more than that.

I imagine that no one wants to spend money on developments hamstrung by FAA regulations.

It really is all or nothing. The desired density and flexibility to develop freely will only come if the airport is gone. Half-measures are not enough to attract enough people to the area to make it worthwhile.

I find it baffling the city wants to keep open an airport that has seen a sharp decline in usage, that follows the overall pattern in the NE Ohio. The area most certainly does not need three airports. It hasn't since the 80s.

I'm pretty sure most of Burke is on a landfill which restricts a lot of what can be done with that property.
