Browns moving downtown?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I imagine that no one wants to spend money on developments hamstrung by FAA regulations.

It really is all or nothing. The desired density and flexibility to develop freely will only come if the airport is gone. Half-measures are not enough to attract enough people to the area to make it worthwhile.

I find it baffling the city wants to keep open an airport that has seen a sharp decline in usage, that follows the overall pattern in the NE Ohio. The area most certainly does not need three airports. It hasn't since the 80s.

The problem with Burke lakefront is the people who still use it have alot of decision making power with companies in the city. I can understand why the city doesn't want to rock the boat with it. It could mean losing companies to other cities and/or jobs.

If the other two airports were closer to the downtown area, I think it would have been repurposed years ago.

I'm pretty sure most of Burke is on a landfill which restricts a lot of what can be done with that property.

I forgot about that. Look at what happen to City View shopping center in Garfield Heights. The moment methane was detected, people stopped going there and every business closed up shop. That was build on a landfill too.

I just posted an article in the post before this one that seeks to debunk the narrative that Burke is somehow more attractive or quick than Hopkins.

This whole conversation has been dominated by well-tred narratives. The fact of the matter is the City blew it after 9/11 when they had an opportunity to re-purpose Burke with federal funds.

I would just like to see what percentage of flights out of Burke lakefront are for corporate executives or owners from companies based in downtown Cleveland. That's the biggest threat to hurting the city if they closed Burke lakefront.

It's like a high end restaurant getting rid of their valet parking. There might have a ton of parking all around them but if their top 5-10 regulars use it all the time would you risk taking it away.

I wish they'd use it for a certain event again....

Seriously. Ask ANY IndyCar fan about that venue (not just ohio one) and they really wish it would come back on the schedule.

I use to like going to that. I definitely thought it was a unique track. Didn't the drivers not like it? Also compared to mid-ohio, it was odd from an fans perspective. All the grandstands were on one side of the track and there wasn't any ability to use the infield.

I'm surprised they didn't try to get American Le Mans series or now IMSA to take it over.

On the topic of more events at First Energy stadium. They definitely could make a circuit around the stadium, rock hall, and science center. The club areas of the stadium are already set up as viewing decks. Closing down that area wouldn't be a big deal because it get so little traffic. They could figure out some fan experience stuff to do inside the stadium and on the field. It might be more appealing for tv than the airport because the buildings and surrounding area give a better background than the bland airport.

CART series . folded into the Indy Car circuit. Indy Car runs on ovals.

Yes and No.

Merging two series like that was difficult. Two of the other famous CART circuits (that were left) Toronto and Long Beach were brought back within a year of it. (They even did a deal where they could run Long Beach the SAME DAY as a race that they already had scheduled in Japan to ensure it's survival)

Cleveland just for whatever reason didn't make the cut. There's been a few efforts to bring it back. Sherwin Williams I guess approached the series with the possibility of sponsoring it but they couldn't find a promotion team. (Mike Lanigan and Roger Penske both with Cleveland ties didn't take the offer)

This was also 2016. The city admitted that it was insanely busy to the series hosting the GOP and some...other event happened that year/summer ;).
