Browns rant thread.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Because Brandin Cooks wishes he was athletic or as physical as Corey Coleman. How good would Mike T look with Kizer as his QB? I'll go out on a limb and say that he wouldn't be the fastest player to whatever amount of catches record he broke.

Cooks is pretty close as an athlete, actually. He lacks Coleman's burst, although he's a little faster. Both guys are in the top-tier of SPARQ-X scores. Coleman is a little bigger and was more dominant in college, though, and he also had a much better YPR, which is why he profiles out similarly to OBJ and Cooks profiles out closer to TY Hilton.

Of course, Cooks has spent his entire career having two of the best QBs of all time throwing him the ball. Coleman hasn't been so lucky.

Might be the first time I've seen Corey Coleman referred to as physical. I learned something new today, thanks.

No, that's not my argument. Thomas obviously wouldn't have broken that NFL catch record with Kizer throwing him balls (although Kizer wasn't Coleman's QB last year) and Coleman would obviously have more catchable balls with Brees as his QB. My argument is simply that Michael Thomas is better than Corey Coleman. Just like he was in College, even though Coleman was the one more productive then due to the players and systems each played with & against.

But, this will take care of itself next year when the Browns have somewhat of a respectable QB room, since apparently it's still in doubt to some people.

Seems a lot of people are banking on Coleman exploding the second he has a respectable QB...dangerous...

I mean, it's not as if the guy hasn't had flashes while he was here, and that was with some absolutely shit QB play. I don't think it's unfair to expect him to look better with a competent QB. When he's gotten targets consistently, he's produced.

Yeah, he's got a lot to prove. He's not playing in an air raid offense against Big 12 defenses anymore.

What does that have to do wit h the NFL?

So, I'll never step foot into Barley House again (not that I go anyways).

Joe Oravec, one of the bigwigs at Barley House, had a favorable comment to Manziel's Instagram post (in addition to Andrew Hawkins' petty self) clowning the Browns. Barley House holds several pre-game "tailgates" for the Browns, which effectively makes this guy a giant douche playing both sides. Later in the post, Manziel says something along the lines of "I wish the Browns nothing but the worst".

Yep. A performance for the ages :chuckle:

I'm sure people will say Gordon's targets were way more catchable or something, but the dude came back and surpassed Coleman's yardage at the end of the season in a handful of games...

Again really not trying to hate on the guy and I hope he's good, I guess I'm just waiting to see more and how he looks with a good QB...

Put it this way. Remember Gordon's first game back against LAC and the numbers he put up? Now when you watch the game how good should Gordon't numbers have been? he should've has at least 2 TD's and +150 yards with average QB play. The same thing applies to Corey Coleman. I almost recall Coleman having to go to the ground to catch passes from Kizer just as much as he catches them standing up and yes his game against JAX he only went for 80 yards but again with average QB play he could've easily had more.

Are we talking about his 80 yard game vs the Jags?

It was what, the second best game any receiver had all year versus that secondary? If I recall, the only receiver who did any better was Antonio Brown. Watching that game, what stands out is that they just can't cover Coleman. He basically got open at will.

It's not so much that Gordon's targets were more catchable. I believe they were slightly more, as opposed to Coleman who basically had the worst percentage of catchable targets in the league.

What you need to take into account, though, is that Gordon was utilized as a home run threat pretty consistently, and so all it really took was a few connections for him to have big games and high yardage totals. Coleman was used all over the field, which means a lot of shorter routes in addition to some long ones.

You also have to factor in that Gordon started receiving the bulk of the targets when he returned, putting Coleman in a secondary role. When you combine his lowered targets with Kizer's piss-poor accuracy, it really didn't give him much of a chance to do much once Gordon came back and Kizer was staring him down. Gordon averaged 8.5 targets per game upon his return, whereas Coleman dropped to 5.2. Coleman saw almost as many targets in the two games prior to Gordon's return (his first two back from injury) as he did in the five with Gordon back. As I've mentioned in the past, Coleman essentially went from 10+ targets and four or five catchable passes a game to 5 targets and maybe two catchable balls per week. That's a significant swing. No receiver is going to give you consistent production on two catchable balls per week.

I mean, Coleman's fine I suppose. Maybe with a competent QB he'll turn into something. There's no reason to get rid of him. There are much bigger problems here. I would still bring in a free agent and draft someone in the middle rounds. It's not like you can count on Coleman staying healthy or Gordon staying sober. But I'm not going to run him out of town.
