Before free agency started I thought Gaines would get a contract in the same range Carrie got and Carrie would get a contract in the range that I suspect Gaines is about to get.

Still want to draft a CB with #33 or #35, but this signing certainly looks to take Ward/Fitzpatrick off the table.

This was always my best-case scenario for fixing the defensive backfield. I thought the T.J.Carrie signing might have meant they had no chance at Gaines. He's not the fastest or the biggest corner, but because of technique and toughness he will step right into the #1 corner role.

I don't think this eliminates Ward necessarily. Once Taylor is inevitably cut, your top corners are going to be Gaines, Carrie, and BBC.

All solid but no reason to pass on an elite level prospect if you think he's going to pan out.
