Browns sign RB Carlos Hyde

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have been watching him for the past couple years.

With this line he will flourish. He is also a very capable receiver. He is a big back and is lethal in the open field as he can just run-over DBs.

How does this compare to league average for this type of split? Do most backs also gain a substantial amount more in runs out of the shotgun or is that something unique to Carlos?

Thought this just a couple seconds prior to scrolling past your post. Also curious how Pitt’s offense split last year with run/pass and what the specific under-center-to-shotgun ratio was with Haley’s calls.

At the very least, it’s going to be super interesting to see the offense with a multitude of downfield threats and a runner that is wildly successful in certain situations.

I think Jerrick McKinnon is underrated, but he got 4 yrs $30m from the 49ers so maybe not so much anymore. Not sure on the guarantees of that deal or the Hyde deal, but wow I'd much rather have Hyde at half the price.

Jerrick McKinnon can't handle a high snap count as a running back, but he has the ability to line up as a slot receiver. He's more Poop Dick than Hyde. Vikings already have a possible star doing McKinnon's job in Dalvin Cook with a traditional back in Latavius Murray making coin. The Niners with Shanahan have convinced themselves they don't really need to establish a run/pass balance, at least that's the messaging from talking heads in the media so far. They might address a true traditional runner in the draft to replace Hyde's skillset... they do have the best FB in the game, so a traditional runner seems like a no-brainer.

Hyde is a beast. A true three-down back. People are going to be so pleased.

I like the signing of Hyde but it folks think Jackdon is gonna use him more than he used Crow then I don't know what to tell ya. Hopefully Haley will use him more one he has the full reigns.

Haley already had the full reigns. He's the full time playcaller.

And if history tells us anything, Haley will ensure run/pass balance no matter what.

It's not as if Jackson didn't use Crowell, though. Dude had over 200 rushes and over 40 targets (with Duke accounting for another 82 rushes).

He was just pedestrian.

my first thought this is a damn good question.

My second thought is, does it really matter? The league for the last 15 years has been going away from snaps under center and only 25%ish of league wide snaps are run from under center anyways. So at the end of the day.... does it really make that much of a difference? You know that a huge portion of your plays will be run from the shot gun anyway

Falling behind early almost every game certainly doesn't do any favors for the running game.

I don't think the Browns will be playing catch-up nearly as much this season.
