Carlos Boozer

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Boozer would be my ultimate 1st choice of the more realistic PFs (does not include Bosh or Stoudemire)

Is he great defensively? No....but he's no slouch.

Nope. He's a slouch. Actually calling him a slouch would be an insult to slouch's. Defensively he makes Steve Nash look like Bruce Bowen. Literally a swinging gate.

You had me until you said worse than Steve Nash. My dead Grandma plays better D than Nash. Its my biggest issue with him ever winning a mvp. Maybe the most overated player in the game. He plays a style that never does well in the playoffs. Want proof, look at the dallas and phoenix teams he has played for. Look at how they performed in the regular season vs the playoffs. Living in phoenix it kind of sucks because i just dont like nash's overall game.

Ok, also, I think rebounding is a componant of defense, ie boxing out, something that Boozer is good at....the only thing with "D" in it that Boozer is good at. (and no, "d"ick sucking doesnt count)

He may not have "shut down defense" but he has a great nose for the ball and a knack of offensive rebounding. He is a monster on the boards. Imagining a LeBron-Boozer pick and roll:drool:

Um, seen it, Lebron's rookie year. I still say Boozer is over rated. I wasnt a huge fan of his when he was on our team. I always said he wasnt the long term answer at pf. His defense is just so bad. JJ might not be a good defender, but he could learn. We know Boozer isnt capable of defending.

Boozer's poor defense will show in other areas. It not only will cost us points, it will get our other players in foul trouble...most notably Lebron, moon and the centers. Boozer is fool's gold. Just say no. Plus, since he is an expiring, The jazz would want talent and draft picks in return. No thanks.

Boozer 1 year and a bit younger than David West surprisingly

Struggling Jazz could face roster shakeup

Concerned about a lackluster start that has left them in ninth place in the Western Conference and motivated not to pay a hefty luxury-tax bill for moderate success, the Utah Jazz appear willing to trade anyone on their roster but point guard Deron Williams(notes), multiple league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

The Jazz have a payroll exceeding $77 million with five players making at least $9 million this season. Their dilemma: While they would like to shed some salary, they want to remain competitive enough to at least contend for a playoff berth.

Carlos Boozer(notes), who is making $12.6 million in the final season of his contract, has attracted interest, but sources said the Jazz have yet to enter any substantive trade talks involving the forward. Jazz coach Jerry Sloan has told management he’d prefer to keep Boozer for the season to help with the team’s playoff push, but ownership wants to avoid paying as much luxury tax as possible.

Rival executives think the Jazz have been asking for too much for Boozer, and that most teams who trade for him would want assurances they have a good chance to re-sign him over the summer.

Boozer is averaging more than 19 points and 10 rebounds and could prove to be a difference-maker for a contending team. The Detroit Pistons discussed trading Tayshaun Prince(notes) for Boozer over the summer, but one West executive said the Jazz wanted only to redirect Prince to the Portland Trail Blazers and now lack another team with salary-cap room to do so.

It’s also little secret the Jazz have been trying with no luck to trade forward Andrei Kirilenko(notes) and his hefty contract for some time. Kirilenko is making a team-high $16.4 million this season and $17.8 million next season.

I don't mind Boozer at all, Can he be trusted at the end of the season? Also, it says they want to make the playoffs, probably want some talent back.

That article basically confirms that Boozer won't be traded tomorrow. Maybe the player we have interest in from Utah really is Koufos, but I don't see how he saves them that much money.

Hopefully the Jazz continue to tank and we can save them more money and land Boozer. I'd take Boozer over anyone besides Bosh and Amare (of course there are others like Gasol, but they won't be traded).

From ESPN Rumors:

Trade chatter a distraction?
10:30 AM ET Carlos Boozer | Jazz

There is a lot of chatter about what the Jazz might do as we get closer to the trade deadline in February, but Carlos Boozer says it's not a distraction for him.

"For some of the guys, maybe," Boozer told The Salt Lake Tribune. "Maybe they haven't been in that position before. I'm sure Kevin O'Connor is getting calls every day. I'm sure coach is feeling a little pressure [about] what to do. ... But that's [their] job. For us players, all we can do is the best we can."

The Jazz are over the tax threshold and a trade is likely. Boozer is playing well and is in the final season of his contract so there is a good chance he'll be dealt.

Yesterday, ESPN's Chad Ford outlined a trade scenario that could send Boozer to the Mavs.

Chad Ford
Expiring deals of Dampier, Gooden could be helpful for Jazz

"I think the Mavs will be in this thing. Their window with Dirk and company is small. They're playing well and they have two huge assets, Erick Dampier's contract that isn't guaranteed next year and Drew Gooden's contract that isn't guaranteed for the rest of the season. I could see a team like the Jazz, who are desperately trying to cut payroll, make a Carlos Boozer like swap for that type of relief."

Move Dirk to center?? Wat?

And if Boozer would actually be traded for expirings we could offer just as much...

For those with more knowledge than me of CBA and rules for trades... Could Boozer sign a new contract with the Jazz prior to a 3 team trade to be certain that he doesn't walk after the season? Sign and trade scenario?

This is sort of an interesting read on Boozer's defensive woes, and how his incredible rebounding and scoring ability actually make Utah's defense look better overall.

Now, Boozer's defense is as bad as Jamison and Murphy. If you put any of those three on this team, Mike Brown will instantly make them a somewhat better defender, and the help system will cover up most of their shortcomings. As long as Boozer can pick up the rotations, which I believe he can in our defense-first system, he should do an adequate job and it shouldn't put our guys in foul trouble, make us bleed points, etc. Some of you are saying Boozer's the best choice as long as we can't get someone like Amare. Well, since he's been in this league, Stoudemire hasn't had to play an ounce of defense. For all we know, if you put him on a defensive team like ours he could just drop dead. If Boozer puts effort forth, we can cover up his weakness just like every other poor defender we've covered up in the past.

As far as Boozer possibly bailing this summer...honestly I think I'd just be scared shitless to betray the city again. If he walked again then he'd have to join the witness protection program if he wanted to stay alive. You just don't do that. Especially to Cleveland fans. :chuckles:

Anyone that wouldn't want Boozer on this team for his talent is a moron......excuse my language, but it's the truth.

Your language is actually much cleaner that what I would call said people.

While I'd certainly consider taking Jamison, West or Murphy over Boozer for a similar package due to the baggage and general hatred, there is no denying that on talent alone, Carlos would help this team's bid for a championship.

He's #1 on my list as far as the PFs I think we can realistically target. Sure I'd love Bosh, Pau or Josh Smith but I don't see it happening. I'd could also get excited about getting Jamison, but I'd be worried about his production falling of a cliff before his contract expires.

I think we can do better than just expiring contracts that Dallas is offering in the ESPN rumor. We have expirings, an owner who is willing to add salary, and some talent on our bench. I mean the 2nd best 3-pt shooter in the NBA can't find time in our rotation for Christ's sake.

How about this 3-way trade with Golden State:

Cavs get:
Boozer
Maggette

Utah gets:
Anthony Randolph
Boobie
under the salary cap and some talent to replace Boozer

Warriors get:
JJ
Z (buyout)
$3 mil
out of the Maggette contract, big salary savings and a replacement prospect at PF

From what I've read, I don't see why each side wouldn't do this trade. I'd also be willing to put up Parker and/or Moon in play to make this happen.

Maggette, for all the flack gets as a chucker would be a great scorer off the bench. If a chucker has a 63% true shooting percentage, then let the boy chuck! I'm not convinced he couldn't play defense either - he's never been on a team that stresses defense.

But we're really in it for Boozer anyway. A 20-10 machine and we are in control of the next contract instead of paying a washed up, has-been in a few years.

MIHF! (Make it happen Ferry!)
