Cavs acquire Sam Dekker (Official)

[Locked on Cavs] Locked on Cavaliers - Aug. 6, 2018 - What are the Cavs getting in Sam Dekker?
http://podplayer.net/?id=53771018 via @PodcastAddict

So this fear the sword guy talked to a clippers guy about Dekker. Really couldn't have given a worse recommendation for Sam.

Hopefully for some unknown reason Sam hated his coach or teammates or something. He was saying they badly needed someone to do something and Dekjer was totally unable and a bunch of g league guys were higher on the depth chart. Seems so odd for a guy the rockets really liked.

Maybe a return to the Midwest makes him feel comfortable? He missed so many 3s in a row he said he was having a bad shooting streak, and his teammates said he hadn't got a shot in 2 months.

I dunno sounds like something is up one way or another.

Nice abs.

Is Gilbert trying to field a playoff team or helping Love fill out a Banana Republic calendar?

This is a dude who Frye can mentor. Get him for road trippin Channing!

One thing I will say and I think we as humans have ALL been there, sometimes things just don't work out. There is bad chemistry, bad timing or just isn't the proper fit.

Maybe that is what happened in LA? Doc is an old school kind of guy and if Sam did something to anger him, I could see the doghouse being his home like it was.

A fresh start awaits! Lets see if he has the talent and sense to take advantage of it.

I think the Cavs may think this guy needs humbled. He is going to have a hard time arguing that he is working hard enough if he is being routinely outworded by younger players like Sexton, Cedi, and Zizic. I do think they are looking at him as a player who needs a culture change. I honestly couldn't believe how doifferent the Rockets and Clippers fan bases rated him. Rockets fans didn't want to lose him, but of course they would for CP3, but Clippers fans want him gone yesterday. Definitely a weird year for him. Had a Fultz like drop off in his shooting.

I heard he doesn't know hwat he is supposed to be doing out there, looked lost all the time. Very different than the high IQ guy they touted in Houston. Sounds like his confidence was shattered somehow. Cavs will be a good place with really positive guys like Cedi and Sexton and Channing. Maybe he can learn from Love? I dunno. Worth a flier, but man sounded bad from clippers perspective.

The Clips podcaster clearly said so. It sounded to me like he felt Dekker needs time to work things out in the G-League but may be too prideful to want to do that.

I think it's hard to assess because we've seen two different versions. From a Houston site that assessed his first real season playing:

"Dekker, throughout the year, became a go-to guy off the bench and was a part of a lot of key lineups for Mike D'Antoni. The second- and third-best lineups of the season both had Dekker playing the four. Per 100 possessions, Nene, Dekker, Brewer, Eric Gordon and Patrick Beverleywere +18.9, while Clint Capela, Dekker, Gordon, Beverley and Lou Williams were +17.6."

"With continued development, he will only become a stronger member of the bench. His true position on the team is likely starting for Ariza when his contract is up after next season or if he is traded during this offseason."

"The more Dekker played, his confidence grew and so did Mike D'Antoni's confidence in him. The playing time scales started to tip more and more in his favor and pretty soon the need for Brewer was no more."

That's a drastically different view on Dekker compared to the Clippers perspective. Dekker was a guy that looked like he could crack the starting rotation of one of the best teams in the Western Conference just a year ago.

Could Koby and his guys see what has gone wrong? Do they think it is fixable? Dekker has worked a lot this offseason on his shot.

But when you look at his 16-17 year in Houston, his first full year playing, there's a lot of hope. Last year could just be a sophomore slump - not uncommon. His first year he didn't really play, so this is really his third season. If 16-17 Dekker or better shows up then this is a steal. If he remains last year's model then no loss because it was pretty much a zero cost pick up other than his under $3M salary.

Yeah I am really hoping that it has something to do with the coach just killing his confidence. I am not sure Lue(ironically doc's acolyte) is the guy to snap him out of it, but so many guys swear Lue is a guy that cares about his players.

Still, was he helping Hood through the worst stretch of his career, or keeping Clarkson engaged when he could not hit a shot? In the playoffs we saw Lue not help spiraling confidence issues.

You are right that that Clipper's guy said maybe some gleague would help, but he also thought Dekker may be very fragile. I dunno. IF he could just get back to his production in Houston, it would be a win.

I really liked his game at Wisconsin, a very gritty get under your skin kind of player. He has the mentality to really contribute but it seemed like a square peg in a round hole kind of guy.

In my eyes it is really hard to judge Lue because he was given a thankless task and in some ways an impossible one. There's no real system with LeBron around. There's no way to really create a team culture, etc. I love LeBron and will forever grateful for the championship that he, Kyrie, Love, and all the others guys brought to Cleveland, but there's a price you pay with him around.

If Lebron is not happy with Hood can you try to rebuild him as a coach?

Maybe I'm naive, but I have a wait and see attitude on Lue as a coach because I don't think we've ever seen him do what he wants to do. Maybe he'll be an utter failure - that's definitely possible. But coaching a LeBron team is no walk in the park - you get all of the blame and none of the credit.

This could not only be Dekker's opportunity, but Lue's. I see next year as a clean slate for everyone, even guys like JR and Tristan if they're on the team. I prefer to play the younger guys, but let's have genuine competition and force guys to earn their jobs. As I see it the only guy that is safely a starter is Love. Every other spot is up for grabs in the Starting 5 or on the bench.

The guy was a complete d-bag and horrible guest. I could hardly finish the episode. I know dekker wasn't good there but he has to have some redeeming qualities or potential or doc wouldn't have played him.

Just boring listening to a guy trash a player dor 30 minutes. And not mention at keast some positives. Imean the guy was a good player 2 seasons ago and was a big part of another teams roster. But he just kept repeating that he is barely a g league player which is just weird to me.

Or maybe I'm just looking through wine and gold colored glasses and want to protect a player on the Cavs.

Oh well...

That podcast is just awful in general.
