Cavs coaching search

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Jesus. I sure hope they aren’t tempted to keep him after this year. Why give him a partial guarantee for next year, requiring yourself to pay him to not coach?

This franchise hangs on to people who suck, way too long. When people with no leverage try to play hardball, have the courage to say, “Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.”

It appears to me that Coach Drew did in fact possess leverage in the eyes of the decision makers, assuming these decision makers did their job and assessed the current NBA Coach marketplace. I believe this to be a valid assumption; others may not.

IMO, Coach Drew appears to have appropriately exercised this leverage in the negotiation and secured some additional security for himself while being compensated for assuming responsibility for an extremely tenuous situation.

At this point in his career, dealing with this current roster and the potential resulting record legitimately put his future opportunity at risk. Additional security is indeed warranted.

Seems to me like he thoroughly understands how the NBA works, and his appropriate role in it. I view this as a GOOD SIGN for ability to manage the current difficult situation with the Cavs. I like what I saw of him last year, he is experienced and maybe he can produce a few more wins so that the team is not historically bad.

No problem with me if the ultimate record warrants the number one pick in the NBA draft. Good Luck Coach Drew!

It seems like the FO have put themselves into a position to potentially make a big mistake next offseason. Unnecessarily.

We haven't seen the new numbers. My guess the front office had an overall number that they are willing to eat for one year of service. I always thought that this was going to be the outcome and the front office should be smart enough to know that too.

I don’t think they have any plans of bringing him back. Simply threw money at him to get him to shut up.

If they may have been open to bringing him back before this shitshow, I'm pretty sure they won't now. Even as an assistant.

I want Ettore Messina. I don’t know if he’d want to be here but I’d go all in on him. He’s like OG version of Blatt except he went about it the right way and came into the league as an assistant and learned the nba way instead of diving in head first.

I kind of disagree that he had leverage. Koby and Dan negotiated with themselves, as they are wont to do. It was not necessary to pay an experienced, though thoroughly mediocre NBA assistant coach, huge sums of money to drive this tank. _I_ could have driven this tank. In fact, I would have actually trusted @The Human Q-Tip or @Sir'Dom Pointer to develop Young Bull, while leading the team to the worst record in the league. I certainly would trust them more than I trust Drew. Young Bull could be all beaten down and playing in the Uzbek Super Liga, getting his salary paid in chickens, by the time Drew is done with him.

Hey appreciate it, but I wouldn't know dogshit about how to develop an NBA players. Absolutely zero clue. However, I might not be terrible at selecting the guy who could.

100% agree with this. He sat through the Kawhi issues in San Antonio. He is going to get player interaction better than Blatt.

Anyone think that Lue was fired due to the Boylan thing? That is stupid as hell for Ty to tell him he is fired over voicemail because he is old. Wow gives another reason to fire Lue I guess

I think it's definitely possible. It exposes the team legally and most companies don't take kindly to that kind of thing usually

It’s probably a combination. No LeBron exposed his coaching deficiencies, lack of control and dysfunction in the locker room, completely disregarding Koby’s directive on roster management, going 0-6 then not having the decency and tact necessary to fire an assistant coach exposing the organization to a frivolous lawsuit and bad PR.

If he waits to talk to Boylan in order to tell him his option was declined because the organization is moving in a different direction does he still have a job? I’m still not sure but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was looking for a way out himself.
