Cavs draft workouts

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Garland apparently had 2 private workouts. Lakers and Cavaliers. Not that it means anything but maybe he is the target at 5.
He was always in consideration because he is that efficient as a shooter. Undersized to play off ball but has Lou Williams upside maybe more and certainly worth taking if for no other reason than to trade down and pick up more assets.

Why does Hunter have a low ceiling?

I don't see any reason he can't develop into a great player. I don't see Culver as having significantly higher upside, at all.

Hunter is great at what he does but he’s not going to become a creator offensively for others.

Meanwhile, Culver has flashed great floor vision and shown an ability to create for teammates as a ball handler.

Hunter’s jumpshot is further along and parts of his game are more refined, but it’s significantly more likely that Culver improves his stroke (which he already took a big step last season) than any scenario in which Hunter becomes a facilitator at the next level.

That’s the separator for a wing prospect.

Hunter is one of the oldest players in the lottery riding the coat tails of an ncaa championship who played exceptional defense in college. However he is not someone you should expect to create offense at this juncture and the fact his handles suck at 21 and as a result his poor ability to drive the ball and worse cannot shake defenders from the perimeter relegates him to playing PF. Kevin Love says hello as well
He will be a solid starter in the nba if he plays the pf spot and will always be able to defend a ta high level, but he will never be a premier scorer , initiator or finisher in the NBA and that alone should make orgs warry of over picking him especially one's in early rebuilds with better options available for the taking. They could have the worst record in the league next year and be picking 5th again in 2020 with the new odds. You don't take old proven role players at 5 it's bad for the roster, bad for the rebuild and foolish abuse of the checkbook. if they want role players that bad they shouldn't have tanked

Where did you hear that the Cavaliers worked Garland out privately?

Where did you hear that the Cavaliers worked Garland out privately?

“After Garland pulled out of the NBA draft combine in Chicago last month and sat out his agency’s (Klutch Sports) pro day in Los Angeles, draft pundits wondered whether he had received a promise from a lottery team. Garland and his agent, Rich Paul, lifted the smoke screen this week, however, as the guard granted private workouts to both the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers in L.A., sources told ESPN.”

Although now some reports are saying hes going to workout for a few lottery teams this week leading up to the draft.

yep he's probably now going to work out for NY and New Orleans especially if Lakers gave him the promise barring trade. But it could have been Cavs I guess too. I doubt it though given most promises are later

I believe I saw Grant Williams at Hopkins today. Anyone hear of a workout?

Interesting & thank you. I hadn’t heard that. I can see him working out for New Orleans and perhaps any team interested in trading up to the 4th or 5th pick, like perhaps Chicago, Minnesota, Charlotte, & Miami. Draft experts are saying the value of the Cavaliers’ pick will go up if Garland is still on the board when they pick.

No, I haven’t heard. He’s a very productive, but undersized PF, who is older. Most see him as a late first or second round pick. He could be an option for the Cavs at #26.

Just want to point out he's actually a year young for his class. Just 9 months older than Reddish, 3 months older than Culver, 1 year younger than Hunter, for comparison.

Grant Williams at 26 would be absolute theft.

I'd take him if they flipped JR for a pick in the teens. I think he's really good.

That’s a good point, as Williams doesn’t turn 21 until the end of November. He reminds me a little of Jared Dudley and I think he can possibly have a similar type of career.

Starting to think this is one of the most difficult drafts In the last decade to predict not only due to lack of clear separation after the top 2 and to some degree 3 but also due to a potential record breaking number of trades.
Cavs will definitely be involved in some trades.
I'd go bpa long term (elite upside) at 5 regardless of position with elite tools and not settle for need if you know what I'm saying, trade into the late lottery to late teens for another solid high upside player at a position of need and use the 26 for a proven older role player unless a sleeper emerges.

I like Grant Williams. Play making PF. He's only 6-7 but has a 6-11 wingspan. Nice defender. Has Draymond without the scumbag upside if everything goes right. Nice fit in Beileins system.
