Cavs summer league team

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think Preston has some of the same questions. Where exactly is his desire? I did not like that he expected to be treated a certain way in Europe. He got a lot of fouls and was like WTF?

His mom pulled him out of 3 or 4 highschool's and she went to Europe with him. I hope Cedi, Mathias, Sexton and lil Z rub off on him. If he approached the game like they do, he could be a star. If he gets frustrated by not being handed the keys as an udfa, then he is not going to stick with this team.

His size and position are a specific need of this team. If he can't stick, that is his failure. He's the kind of tweener you love. Not too small, just huge and skilled.

His rebounding is one of the best things to me. If he can do all that stuff, but also rebound wow. Most stretch 4s like him don't really have that knack

I see your point, but I think not getting drafted may open his eyes. When you're at the bottom, you've got nowhere to look but up.
I think the vets on the team can help. Plus Sexton looks like he's always ready for a dogfight.

I expect Ayton and Bamba to be instant NBA starters. I'm keenly interested in how Zuzic does does head to head?

Does anyone know if both Zizic and Cedi play in the World cup basketball qualifiers?

Don't know about Çedi, however Ante hasn't reported to the team and they played a closed off friendly on the 22nd, I think.

I am pretty sure he won't participate in this cycle, along with Hezonja and Bender, who both have to fight to define their roles this year and work on their games.

Some Dakota Mathias summary.

Here is Mathias Shot chart/distribution in College. I swear to god, he is by far the best shooter in college basketball on all levels.

Here is Mathias synergy numbers:

Overall Offense:

As you can see, he is an elite shooter. The reason he was worse coming off screens is because defenders were stuck to him like glue despite his ability to come off screens pretty quickly and with good technique. They ran pin down for him a lot, but you know, they don't make screens in college like they make them in the NBA. Most of his off-screens attempts as a result were contested.

His Spot-up shooting is elite, his catch and shoot numbers are elite when unguarded. The surprising this is that he can put the ball on the floor and initiate the PnR at a high level in College at least; shows good decision making and passing. Excellent either as a shooter in the PnR or as a passer. May try to needle passes on occasion to the roll man which messes up with his TO rate. But all in all, very low TO rate (5 Assists to 1.9 TO per 40 minutes).

Surprisingly, I know, he is excellent shooting off the dribble and on high volume (85 possessions).

[

Overall Defense:

Defensively he isn't really favoured by Synergy. He is an overall smart team defender, though his length limits him as far as contesting shots on the perimeter. And when he tries to close out on shooters aggressively, he doesn't move his feet quick enough to contain. When watching him however, I get a sense that his awareness is high and his positioning on point.

1.6 STL per 40 is decent and his 3.1 is nice for an undersized player that is not exactly in his optimal shape. I do expect to see improvements once his physique(if possible) improves.

In conclusion: He is a skilled, ultra efficient all-around player that lacks length and size that will absolutely take advantage of playing with Lebron. He should be given a fair chance whether he plays badly or not. We can not just let him go. He can contribute right away in my opinion and can replace in limited minutes some of our bad vets.(hmm JR?)

He will need us to run some kind of offense though that involves screening action to get him open. So Lue needs to step up for him to be a positive impact player.

Reported to the national team you mean?

I know that Ante is really focused on his NBA career, more so than the national team. He declined an invitation last summer right?

Cedi is more committed to the national team...

is that correct?

Thanks.

This reminds me of Jon Diebler and how I'm still amazed he never gotten a shot at the NBA. He shot 50.7% from 3 his senior year at Ohio State. He is shooting 49.1 from 3 for his career (last 5 years) in Europe. He shot 53.8% from 3 in the 2016-2017 season.

No, it's what our basketball association does. We don't force anyone to play if the NBA team asks for them to stay and it is necessary for them to build up their roles and to be getting consistent minutes at the NBA level. Šarić and Bogdanović are 2 guys who have consistently played despite the advice from their teams, but in both cases they are established starters, with Šarić dominating every level of European basketball, becoming a ROY candidate, starter and Bogdanović playing well on the Nets. It's a weird situation, but everyone has the right to make their decision, even if it is frowned upon.

Example: Bender played in the European Championship because the Suns wanted him to so he got a spot. This year he doesn't, probably due to a workout plan and the need to earn some PT, right from the SL.

I can see the same being true in the case of Žižić. Interestingly, Zubac has joined our NT, even though he's in a similar position. Some franchises value national comps more than the SL.

Thank you.

Can you expand a little bit on Zizic? what do you think was the reason for his sub optimal shape he was in during the season? because it's weird to me, he was known as a very high energy guy in the Adriatic and Euroleague. So do you have a guess? Cavs lack of practice may have been the issue, but still...

The REAL test is having a Cavaliers jersey on. If he can actually hit a fucking open 3 with that uniform on, he's a keeper! No one else seems to be able to do that.

Coaches always hype up their player and former players. I like him but I’m not getting hyped up about coach speak.
Good point, take it with a grain of salt, OTOH if the dude actually sucked I doubt very much the coach would risk his own reputation.

Pretty exciting, looking forward to see if he can stick. Here is a bit more on his contract from landof10.com:
According to NBA.com, his Exhibit 10 agreement will allow him to play in the NBA Summer League with the Cavs and will serve as a partially guaranteed contract. This would give Mathias a stronger chance to earn a spot on Cleveland’s developmental G League team, the Canton Charge.
In addition, Mathias could receive a bonus up to $50,000 if he signs with the Charge and stays there for 60 days after being waived. The deal could also be converted into a two-way contract, allowing Mathias to split time between the NBA and the G League.

Can he earn a spot on the roster straight away?

Can he earn a spot on the roster straight away?
That possibility isn't even mentioned, but found this:

"A player who is signed to a contract with an Exhibit 10 will receive a bonus up to $50,000 if he signs a contract with the team's G League affiliate upon being waived from the parent club."

So is he isn't waived, he can be signed straight away.

I'm optimistic. I am just trying to temper 2nd lottery pick talk.

Really I don't think he could have better young players around him. Cedi bought in day 1 and Zizic seems serious about his development too. Sexton is supposed to be the most dedicated guy in the 2018 class and is super positive .

If this guy can be reached, his fellow youngsters can do it. LeBron too if he wants to take his #1 fan under his wing. It's hard to want to disappoint you idol.

I dunno tho. Y'know how dumb Waiters was playing when LeBron arrived. Some guys just never get it and it's a damn shame. So far Preston has said the right things. He will get his shot.

I am slightly worried another team could scoop him up if Cavs dont have him locked up. As of now, he wants to be with the Cavs so he can play with LeBron.
