Cavs Trade Joe Harris to Orlando

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
My take is that the timing of this move is based on 3 things--
1) Cunningham gets guaranteed for the rest of the year.
2) Joe Harris goes down for the year
3) Cavs found a buyer for Joe's contract at a price they liked

The price needed to unload Joe's contract was only likely to go up as the trade deadline approached so the deal happened now.

This is probably a precursor for a future move like singing a min salary vet who wants a shot at a ring, but the second shoe doesn't fall until either the Cavs lose a key player to injury or the Cavs find a vet they cannot resist. Until then, It' probably going to be very quiet.

You better be f'in good, 2020 second round draft pick.

good guess but could have been better...he's shooting 47% in 30 MPG! And playing good defense.

The Cavs were in a win now mode at that time. This is how we got Chriss. The Rockets are in a similar win now mode.

You guys are vastly over rating this thread. That was the year we won the championship and we didn't have the space to develop players.

Its today we should be pissed if we do something like that. But in 2016 you had to trade anyone that couldn't contribute right now. Joe Harris was not ready to play right away, his first year in Orlando was marginal at best.

I mean I just revived/gravedug the thread in jest. But. It is pretty disappointing that we could not develop any young talent while contending. The Spurs are good about that. We were the opposite. And in our specific situation it probably didn't matter one way or the other but in theory it would extend your contention window.

I guess Delly kinda fits that ticket, though again if we were smart we would have locked him up before he hit free agency.

Yep.

I was critical of David Griffin when he drafted Harris and Dwight Powell in the second round of the 2014 draft since I didn't see any evidence that either would have an NBA career.

I was wrong about both. They've both been solid contributors.

Don't listen to this guy!

Just annoying, that's all. A few guys on our board saw the talent that we had with him, but we kept guys like Mo Williams, Dahntay Jones, and Sasha Kaun on the roster instead. We won a title that year, so no biggie, but having a young a developing three point marksman alongside LeBron would have been nice.

Joe never played in Orlando though. He went right to Brooklyn the next season after recovering from his injury and was a solid role player on an awful team. Now he's been one of the best three point marksmans in the NBA the past two seasons.

A swing and a miss by the Cavs no doubt, but it's forgiven since we won a title.

Not when you move them and attach picks. Arguably it makes him look even worse.
I’m not a roster expert by any means, and consider myself a more casual fan. But I’m not sure why when you’re in championship mode you can’t carry young developmental guys in spots 13-15, or even 12-15 if it’s merited.
Golden State has carried young guys, San Antonio etc.
Yes Griffin drafted them, but gave them zero opportunity to develop.
If I recall everyone liked Harris a lot, had a pure stroke. Hustler and was smart.
Again, I’m not a roster guy in NBA basketball, but he seemed liked a guy to keep awhile.

If we aren't contenders we don't sign Dahntay and keep Joe, 100% he isn't on our team because we were contenders and we aren't as good as managing the roster as Popovich, but few are.

Kaun ended up being a swing and a miss, but such is life.

He is looking more like his RCF monicker Captain America (Infinity Wars) with better conditioning (he was a bit pudgy in his time with the Cavs) and that man beard... Glad he is doing much better since he seems to be a nice dude and hard worker... The Cavs was on a win now situation back the, Joe needed playing time and seasoning and they did win a ring so it worked out good for both

guys -- if we had had last year's Joe Harris in the Finals it would have made a difference for sure. Every player counts. Not good to throw away a quality NBA player any way you cut it.
