Channing Frye

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
As for the nobody wants to play with LeBron argument, let’s wait until next offseason when there are more star free agents besides Paul George.
Yeah, Jeff Green and Jamal Crawford will likely be on the market for him to recruit.

More like Varejao, a 1st and a 2nd round pick.
Lol, ok.

If you want to view the trade like that be my guest, but the team that got the first and Varejao was not Orlando. And that first was included so that Varejao would come off our books. It had nothing to do with Channing Frye

I hope Frye stays as a commentator for FSO after he retires from the Cavs.

He's funny and eloquent.

It was a 3 team trade. Who cares who went where? All those trades were to get Frye.

We used the 2nd round pick that we got from the Blazers to send for Orlando, and traded Varejao+conditional 1st for Frye. I don't see how sending the 2nd to Orlando changes it.

Varejao was another albatross contract that was signed by Griffin and we used his salary to get Frye. Another of the many terrible contracts and bad trades.

This has nothing to do with Frye. I don't regret trading for him and I'm very happy that he is here. I just wanted to point that out because that perception is wrong.

The disagrees on this post from the LeNutHuggers are hilarious to me.

Like, what the hell did you say that was wrong? Even leaving Channing Frye out of it because he's just a minimum player...

LeBron struck out swinging badly this summer in terms of recruiting marquee free agents to the fucking Lakers....he couldn't get 1 guy to go play with him in L.A. Not even his best friend CP3. Not even a meeting for the Lakers....

This is 1 year removed from Kyrie Irving requesting a trade, primarily because he no longer wanted to play with LeBron James.

Let's look at last summer some more...LeBron recruited 3 guys...
1. Wade- 20 pounds overweight the entire time, terrible locker room presence who divided an already fragile locker room and was such an asshole they had to trade him back to the Heat.

2. D Rose- Didn't fit right. Never passed the ball. Left the team for weeks to basically consider retirement. Got traded as salary filler, lol.

3. Jamal Crawford- LeBron recruited him but wanted us to give him the full MLE which meant we couldn't bring Cedi over and Crawford would have cost us like $25 million in tax penalties and kinda fell off big time last year.

Then we saw the team him and Magic "discussed for three hours" at LeBrons house. It's garbage. GM LeBron sucks. His recruiting power

I think it's a pretty clear and obvious fact that playing with LeBron, especially for better players like all-star and above, is not that attractive of a proposition anymore. They don't want to deal with all the drama, only for LeBron to get all the credit and none of the blame.... Even with Kawhi Leonard...soon as Bron went to the Lakers alone you have Shams basically saying "I think Leonard would prefer the Clippers now, don't think he's entirely interested in playing with LeBron".

The other problem is that it's unclear if playing with LeBron actually helps these guys at all. A lot of the time, unless you're a role-playing big-man that he feeds dunks or a sharpshooter he feeds open threes, LeBron's full control over the offense and lack of willingness to play in a system actually tends to hurt guys with more advanced games because they don't get the opportunity to do the things they're good at. He completely neutered Chris Bosh and Kevin Love, two perennial allstar big-men, all-NBA level type players. Turned them into glorified Ryan Anderson's on offense most nights. Perimeter players sometimes have it even worse...no chance to get into a rhythm...all kinda of standing around and waiting for LeBron to do something after he breaks the play you're supposed to be running. Then when you do have the ball, you're at a disadvantage half the time because LeBron likes to walk to the half-court line and put his hands on his hips while he watches everyone else play 4 on 5. Then he still usually gets beat down the court for a transition lay-up after you miss a contested shot because it's 4v5.

Not surprised at WHO disagreed...same people that pretended it was totally cool that LeBron purposely played like dogshit for months and never tried on defense at all, ever. Of the "Bron gets all credit, no blame" ilk. They probably sat down in their fancy new LeBron Lakers jersey and typed his name into the search bar to see who was disparaging him today.
It was a bad post so I disagreed with it. @priceFTW hit you with the numbers, but no response from you or @K1rieIrving>AllOtherPG's after that. LeBron "purposely playing like dogshit for months" allowed him to drag a terrible supporting cast to the Finals. Advancing deep into the playoffs is good, right? If he would have 100% in every game in January then he probably wouldn't have had enough left in the tank to give 45/8/7 in game 7 against Indiana, play 46 minutes and give 46/11/9 in game 6 against Boston, or play all 48 minutes and give 35/15/9 in game 7 against Boston. Would you really have preferred him to go all out in January and get bounced in the first round? Dude isn't young enough to give 100% for all 82 games + the playoffs anymore.

As for not getting players to play with him... I recall dozens of posts last season by people lamenting the fact that the Cavs didn't sign Lance Stephenson or Rondo. People wanted them on the Cavs, LeBron goes to the Lakers and gets them, but now he can't get people to play with him?

Additionally, who were the "marque" free agents that he "struck out swinging" on? Chris Paul? He's old, and in a couple years that contract is going to be among the worst in the league. Had the Lakers signed him the narrative would be "bad GM LeBron at it again, signing old veterans on the downswing of their career". Paul George? Ehh. He's a really good player but he's not in the superstar tier. He's not moving the Lakers past the Warriors. Those were the only two really good free agents available. Next season is a wasted season for 29 of the 30 teams, then the Lakers will enter free agency with a bunch of cap space.

Bro, some advice...don't come in hot calling posts bad and then spout off some of the garbage that I'm about to quote, one by one. It makes you look worse than you originally did.

First of all, I'd say it was definitely a small percentage of people that felt that way. I know most of us didn't want Rondo on the team. There was a small movement to sign Lance to a 10 day contract 2 years ago. Again, hard to take that as a serious push for either guy. One guy had like 3 posters total who wanted him and 1 guy had more than that but we were arguing about who to give a 10 day contract to and Stephenson hurt his ankle a week later and then signed for more money than we had available once he got healthy.

The funny part is you giving LeBron credit for "going and getting" Rondo and Lance. Lmfao. Lance got dropped like a bad habit from Indiana who didn't even wanna pay him 4 million after having him all last season and he actually played well at times too. Lance took what he could get. He wasn't a hot commodity. Same as Rondo. They both took the best 1 year deal they could get so they could be free agents again next year. You're really gonna go ahead and start patting LeBron on the back for putting together the pile of shit that is the Los Angeles Lakers roster? Jesus christ dude. At least you don't have to pretend to be a Cavs fan anymore. Do you have all three jerseys yet? Heat/Cavs/Lakers? What about the Team USA one? Do they sell those? I should buy you one...

Additionally, who were the "marque" free agents that he "struck out swinging" on? Chris Paul? He's old, and in a couple years that contract is going to be among the worst in the league.

He's the same age as LeBron. Lol. What are you talking about bro? And LeBron just had the biggest defensive dropoff of his entire career last season and was a putrid defensive player. So maybe the decline for your beloved Bron is closer than we think too. I mean, he just "cant do it all anymore" , right? Those are your words.

Also...what about the marquee young superstar that requested a trade SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE HE NO LONGER WANTED TO PLAY WITH LEBRON JAMES...HMM....I wonder why he did that...probably because he felt that LeBron was holding him back and not making him better.

And how about Kawhi....as soon as LeBron signed with L.A. Shams is on T.V. basically saying that Kawhi would probably prefer the Clippers instead of having to play with LeBron now.

All offseason we just constantly hear from every good reporter that these players just aren't swayed by the allure of going to play with soon to be 34 year old LeBron. They don't want to deal with the drama, the pouting, the headaches, the subtweeting, the cliques, the special treatment, the full control over the offense, LeIso, ballstopping, standing with his hands on his hips at halfcourt watching his team play 4v5. Not crossing halfcourt on defense and giving up 15 points a game to easy layups because of it. Guys don't want to deal with that shit. Especially since it no longer means titles because LeBron is probably going to be a massive underdog to the Warriors for the rest of his great years. That's why he's shifted his focus to Bronny's HS ball career and his movie career. He knows it's time to start thinking about the end.

Had the Lakers signed him the narrative would be "bad GM LeBron at it again, signing old veterans on the downswing of their career".
Do you seriously believe this? If LeBron got Chris Paul to leave Houston to go to L.A. the internet would have exploded with team banana boat tin foil hat memes. Chris Paul was the 2nd best player on the team that pushed GS to 7 and would have won the title of they advanced. That would have been an absolute coup for LeBron.

Paul George? Ehh. He's a really good player but he's not in the superstar tier. He's not moving the Lakers past the Warriors. Those were the only two really good free agents available.

LMAO. Yeah, I'm sure he didn't even want Paul George anyways! Dude is a bum. Lol. But you're complimenting and defending Rondo and Lance. But CP3 is old and Paul George isn't that good. Ahahahahaha.

Next season is a wasted season for 29 of the 30 teams, then the Lakers will enter free agency with a bunch of cap space.

Lol they'll have cap space for 1 more guy. Unless that guys name is Kevin Durant they're still not even close to the Warriors in any world.

But hey, he did drag us to the finals! Then almost stole game 1. And then ruined any chance we had after game 1 by punching inanimate objects like a petulant child and cracking a bone in his hand.

Then he big-timed us for the Lakers. So I will just not partake in slobbering all over LeBron's "accomplishments" last year. He made 75% of the regular season painful and upsetting to watch and all we have to show for it is 1 really great finals game and then him breaking his hand. Lol. Now, I always will remember, enjoy and respect the title we won in 2016 and Bron gets obviously the majority of the credit for that. So thank you LBJ for the title. Enjoy not trying 58 times a year in better weather. We'll see you for a brief jersey retirement and that's about it.

You again ignored all of the statistical evidence posted because it doesn't fit with your narrative.

This is my exact quote from what I said about Paul George. "He's a really good player but he's not in the superstar tier." And you get "Paul George isn't that good" out of that? Lol.

But hey, LeBron is gone so you won't ever have to watch him again. I'm not sure why you dislike him so much, but you should be happy now.

You again ignored all of the statistical evidence posted because it doesn't fit with your narrative.

Dude, I literally have said: LeBron is the best player in the NBA. Like, with that qualifier, what the hell do you mean I'm ignoring stats for narrative? I fully agree and admit LeBron is still, today, the best player in the game. The only statistical claim I've made is that he was bad at defense last year and that is easily verified.

What the hell are you talking about? I know what the stats say. They say that last year LeBron was an offensive god and a defensive garbage can. I don't get what these stats are supposed to tell me? I'm complaining about LeBron's effort and personality. I know he is an all-time great offensive player. I also know he had the worst defensive year since he was basically a rookie/super young and that is also by every single measure.

So again, I ask, what the hell have I "ignored" statistically? I also posted about which kind of players he makes better and which players he makes worse. Again, stats will definitely back me up on that. All you have to do is look at Cleveland Kevin Love versus Minnesota Kevin Love, really.

This is my exact quote from what I said about Paul George. "He's a really good player but he's not in the superstar tier." And you get "Paul George isn't that good" out of that? Lol.
Don't try to back out of it now, you were clearly insinuating that Paul George not going to L.A. was no big deal because he's not enough of a superstar or something. Well, LeBron's camp was definitely not pleased that the Lakers couldn't even get a MEETING with George. Couldn't even get a meeting with LBJ's best friend. Lol.

But hey, LeBron is gone so you won't ever have to watch him again. I'm not sure why you dislike him so much, but you should be happy now.

I'm actually ecstatic about this upcoming season now. I was mad at first, but I got over it extremely quickly. Very ready to start the rebuild and build a hardworking, energetic young team through the draft. LeBron isn't good enough to topple the current Warriors team without a superteam of his own, we weren't going to be able to build it here, he probably wont be able to build it anywhere because GS is just too good. So he went to where he thought he'd be happy. Good for him. Very ready to have some players who actually want to be here.

Cmon now.. Love went from being the #1 option on a lottery team to a 3rd option on a championship team. Of course his numbers went down. That shouldn't be an indictment of LeBron as a teammate or player.

I'm not trying to back out of anything. I posted my exact quote. George is a really good player, but he's not a superstar. He wasn't putting them over Golden State. I don't think that is a hot take. It was a pretty widely held belief before he resigned with OKC.

Would I have liked to see him and LeBron team up? Yeah, of course I would. But I'm not pissed that they didn't because there will be a bunch of good free agents available next summer. If he strikes out again then it'll be a different story.

It's just a fact. LeBron controls the offense and the ball so much that Kevin Love went from a dominant triple-threat at the elbow to a glorified Ryan Anderson next to LeBron. Same exact thing happened to Chris Bosh.

LeBron absolutely is the best player in the game. And maybe he should control the offense of his teams exactly how he does, but one of the reasons other stars aren't lining up to play with him, besides age/drama/etc is because playing with LeBron is not necessarily a good thing in terms of making other stars that also demand the ball better. Even Kyrie looked like an improved playmaker/team player as soon as he was out from under LeBron and on his "own team".

Sure, but it still speaks directly to LeBron's lack of ability to recruit high-end players nowadays. The less you think of Paul George, the bigger deal it is that he spurned LeBron like that. We kinda saw this with Kobe when he got older too...guys just did not want to play with him. LeBron's way way way better than Kobe and aging way way more gracefully, but still. It was interesting to me that nobody went with LBJ to the Lakers. If you told me that he didn't at least get one big name to go with him a year ago I would have laughed. Im still laughing because its kinda funny how LeBron downgraded teams, actually. But alas. It's a new, crazy world. and guys just don't want to play with/care about playing with LBJ like that anymore.

(just for the record because I feel like I have to make it clear, I'm kidding.)

Though I do find it weird that the LeBron fans haven't completely moved on to lakersground or RealLakersBandwagoners.com....bored with the offseason now I take it?

Okay now that we have successfully de-railed the Channing Frye thread without me even realizing it, I'm going to put an end to the LBJ discussion right here and let's get back to talking Channing. When's Road Trippin back???

If you wanna continue the convo go find an LBJ thread and tag me in it.

Edit: sorry I didn't see your latest post before. I don't know how to move my post.

If next offseason comes and goes and he fails to bring in another star then I will agree with you. I think it's premature to say that stars don't want to play with him (besides Kyrie, and depending on what happens in Boston, that may have been more of a Kyrie problem than LeBron."

I don't like the Lakers at all, and I like their fans even less. I'll watch some their games to watch LeBron (besides the ones that start at 11 pm eastern time), but I'm not going to be invested in the team. At this point I just want to see LeBron beat the scoring record.

Can we start talking about Lebron like we do Mark Price? The sort of semi-wistful glory days that we are totally OK with not coming back? I know, the wound hasn't healed over yet, but I feel much more free now that James is gone.

Ready to see the team through a new prism.
