Lol

MLB would never allow this in a million years.

They'd have to after ten years. Trademarks must be actively used in order to maintain their trademarked status.

Chief Noc A Home from the Braves is currently an abandoned trademark.

But continue living in your fantasy world.

@AZ_ are you against the Indians changing their name? That would be at the end of the day what the protestors are trying to achieve and I know they won't quit until then.

I don't see how you could get rid of the mascot and not the name. IMO, the name is far worse than Chief Wahoo in terms of political correctness. It's outright offensive to an entire group of people and just plain wrong. I'm not sure how it always manages to stay out of the discussion for the most part.

It's time to just get rid of it all. Go back to the Spiders or pick something new.

In the modern day though, it no longer means anything offensive and if anything it is the opposite in a lot of ways. Now maybe when the name was used it may have, but I don't see anyone who thinks Indians mean anything but Warriors (now people may say savages, but we almost all see it as the fierce warriors) and also the majority of Native Americans haven't protested it's only a small amount and the only way they could change the name is move the team cause the fans wouldn't be okay with it.

"Why please the minority?" has been a staple of US policy and thinking for a while now.
Yep.

And the smallest minority in America is the individual, but we sure seemto care about their rights less and less

Snowflake is the dumbest fucking term and could describe the person using it

Yeah, so just keep racist relics around because in YOUR mind, "it's not really all that racist to people anymore". That's pretty wild logic. And guess what, the "majority" of a group has never protested bigotry or injustice or whatever you want to call it. That's not how we qualify things like this.

And now we'd have to move the team if we change because the fans wouldn't be OK with it?... that ish cracks me up. Would be quite the ironic twist:

"CLEVELAND FANS MOBILIZE OUTSIDE OF PROGRESSIVE FIELD DEMANDING THEIR DEROGATORY FEATHER SAMBO IMAGERY BACK."

It doesn't have to go away, memorabilia lives forever.

It can stop being used by the team and league.

By the way, for something "not meant to offend," this cartoon ran in the paper when they released it:

lead_large.jpg

Offensive, yes. Also to be noted, this was done by a cartoon writer for the paper. Not the organization. It doesn't change my opinion, I'm just noting it.

I am a history major and I hate with a passion how the European Settlers treated the Native Americans and for that I understand things need to change, but at the same time to the current generation of people we see the word Indians not in a negative tense but as a positive one. If all the Native Americans in northeastern Ohio were complaining about the name then yeah, let's change the name, but they aren't. Most actually either don't care we use it or actually support it. The people protesting will not give up until the name is changed, but until it reflects the Native American people sincerely we have no reason to change it since if they tried it would really cause even more issues. We all have our opinions on this and I'll stand by mine

If the Indians name is also offensive, then why aren't them creatures lining up with their mega phones and tables at the Pittsburgh Pirates affiliation AAA team Indianapolis Indians?

Put this bullshit to a end now, because they don't care enough. That's a minor league team and the name could be changed within a snap of the finger...

Logo? You have a point in this PC world. But I'm keeping the name(s). (Indians, Tribe, WIndians) you will not take that from me.

Because they likely don't know that team exists, because it's Triple-A baseball.

But also because the name Indians is markedly less offensive than a racist image being used as a team logo.

It's not the PC world which has figured out that Chief Wahoo is a racist looking image of what some white dude thinks an Indian is.

This is pretty simple.

There is clearly a racist undertone to the logo, get rid of it and work with the Native American community to bring a positive message and focus on the reason they're named Indians in the first place.

I don't see what is so hard about this.

Well shit, let's let them know that team exists. I want to see the same effort. Next time i will defintely tell them when they're screaming at me as I'm walking to the gate. "Change the name, change the logo" is all I heard.

During the inevitable transition away from the logo, and probably later the name, the organization/league should link with a non-profit whose purpose is to teach and remind Americans of the early Native Americans. What better a time to give back than when the spotlight is focused on you? Why not have those ESPN/Fox/CBS articles talking about the transition away from the logo/history of the logo also speaking about an effort to ensure proper education on native culture?

You want to see the same effort, that's nice. Why do they owe you any of this when you disagree with and discredit the stance anyway? People are funny. You disagree, yet expect them to "prove" their resolve just so you can point and say "not good enough".

It's as if everyone is turning to protester numbers to convince them that something is awry. When has that figure been the difference between right and wrong? The logic is absurd.
