Frankly, if you're a bandwagon fan of a team with a stereotype logo...I feel pretty safe in accusing you of cultural appropriation.

Honest question.. If I go to my friend's house for a family cookout and he happens to be black and they have what you'd imagine to be an African American cultured fare, discussion, and other unique characteristics of culture that is largely understood as not something white folks do (this happened when I was a teenager), am I okay to take some of those home with me? Can I make a dish at home they made that I hadn't heard of before? Or is that an example of cultural appropriation and, thus, off-limits?

No. You must continue to make ramen, hot dogs and tuna packets for the rest of your life.

Because hunting and farming are out, correct? Americans did, technically, appropriate that skill.

Doubtful. Pretty sure hunting and farming were learned in different countries in different times, so an argument could be made that it wasn't appropriated.

Don't push me, cracker.

That concept is cancer man.

Karl Benz invented the car. Is it OK for black people to drive cars?

They will need to invent and drive their own.

They were able to do it with clothing and television.

Okay, but our modern farming techniques were discovered seemingly by Natives of America. So, you've got me between a rock and a hard place here, with poor lighting and no watering. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/25/science/25creature.html

I don't feel any shame. None whatsoever.

Nobody alive had anything to do with Native American genocide, least of all myself.

I agree it should be a topic covered in history classes and taught to our children, buuut...not into the whole guilt trip thing, at all. And please, don't come at me with "the white man is your people and he is responsible!" bullshit. :chuckle:

right, and this line of thinking is equivalent to assigning blame to every black person for every crime every other black person committs, not only presently but for the past 200 years, or every muslim guilty for every swedish rape, which is hysterically ironic.

another piece of it would be liberals crying about persecution when they control every institution in america. I think they need to check their privilege.

Don't worry, someone in here will tell you why that isn't the same thing, and why I should dedicate my life to righting the wrongs of The White Man of the 1800s.

Just, to be more fair, people are sick of the pathological obsession with race. I think a lot of people are fed up with it. It has awful effects on society. Polls said racial relations were 66%favorable and 22% unfavorable a decade ago. Progressives got in and literally flipped those numbers. Thats indefensible.

I do think this logo is racist, but Im sick of the movement.

I actually think it's racist too, I just...well, I better not say that. Shit just amuses me is all.

This is fine to do. Trying new foods is a good way to try to learn about a culture. Plus you will probably find some great eats you hadn't been exposed to.

Wait was that a serious question?

They'd probably be fucking elated to know that you brought that recipe home. Foods should never be restricted to certain people.

Please tell me the joke is on me and nobody thinks cultural appropriation is EVER a serious issue.

Fucking racist

Honestly, I can't say that for sure. Until this all started, I thought it was a key value of this country to understand and accept other cultures into your neighborhood and homes. It seems now there are a few out there who are pushing a "look, don't touch" policy.
