Honestly, I can't say that for sure. Until this all started, I thought it was a key value of this country to understand and accept other cultures into your neighborhood and homes. It seems now there are a few out there who are pushing a "look, don't touch" policy.

I meant on here. There are certainly idiots out there who care.

Don't want to get this into the whole Indians thing because there is a separate thread, but this is the history of them being called what they are. I understand both sides for changing or not changing.

Yeah Im aware of the tradition the Indians followed and honored, I'm 100% against logo/name change, but since uniforms, logos, etc are an hot topic in Cleveland, this popped up as me suggesting that when the Indians scrap the logo and name, I would like them to go with an all fresh look. As a die hard fan, i cant fathom seeing the same style of uniforms with a different name and logo representing what once was the past and they want us to forget about Chief, Holiday jerseys don't even represent him this season, he's gone.

That's why they're phasing out Chief moreso than ever. Same uniforms new name/logo will only intrigue the average fan (including myself) even further to bring in Chief Wahoo to the park. I'm assuming they (MLB) doesn't want that.

When I was first in love with baseball/Indians/Chief Wahoo, I didn't know what racism even was, no clue, people were people, cartoons were just cartoons, and that's how I feel now when I look at the logo, do I understand the disdain for it, sure I do. But it's only from smaller crowds. They really wanna win this thing to poke their chest out and give a fist pump. AZ could go fuck himself quite frankly.

A whole new look would be good for business eventually. If/when the Chief Wahoo is dead, Indians are scrapped, then ball up everything and toss it.

Then these savages can move on to the next complaint over a sports logo.

I think the MLB cares a hell of a lot more about one of their teams profiting and sporting a logo they deem racist than what fans wear to games. One they have a decent amount of control over, the other they do not. I don't think they care at all if they see a rise in 20% in fans sporting the Chief, which I think is a pretty high number.

Keep on moving those goalposts, guys.

Not trying to restart this discussion, but a Supreme Court decision just struck down the part of trademark law that banned "offensive" trademarks. Very likely means "Redskins" and any other team name or image deemed offensive is safe from legal challenge.

I don't hate this.

Organizations should have the freedom to do so, and I'm glad the Indians have the wherewithal and social awareness to phase their offensive logo out over time.

The problem is always the "slippery slope". Exactly who determines what is sufficiently "offensive" so that the government can suppress it? I agree -- people should decide that for themselves, and act/react accordingly.

Ya, they were talking about this ruling on ESPN today. The thing that stood out in my mind, "...if the name offends even 1 person, shouldn't it be changed?" I don't agree w/ that mentality. I think that's an impossible metric to meet. This was in response to the 9/10 Native Americans polled were not offended by The Redskins name (some poll WAPO ran that they were talking about).

Welll in due time, I'd say let fans in northeastern Ohio vote on the new logo/name of the Cleveland ball club. My money would be they don't want it to change, but let the people say. The Native Americans have said majority don't mind Wahoo, at all, so if they are not offended then we have no reason to keep trying to changed things. The Indians can help the local tribes, by making a percentage off of Wahoo sales in a deal and everyone benefits. Also it could be used to raise awareness for the tribes and their cultures. It's only extremists who want the change since when the people who are supposedly being offended actually like wahoo, then why do things have to change?

Because if even 1 person is offended....
