Cleveland Browns 2017 Training Camp

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm thinking Quinn needs to be below Richardson. Also, Braylon Edwards stunk for his pick.

The list of terrible Browns draft picks is honestly impressive. You have to try to be this bad. The odds of picking this horribly over the past 18 years are statistically staggering.

If I had to rank them here are my top 10

1 Manziel
2 Gilbert
3 Erving
4 Weeden
5 Quinn
6 Richardson
7 The 2009 2nd round (Robiskie, Massaquoi, Veikune)
8 Chaun Thompson
9 Mingo
10 Jeremiah Pharms
Rahim Abdullah, Courtney Brown and William Green

This is silly. Braylon Edwards doesn't even rank in the top 25 in terms of all-time worst Browns draft picks.

238 catches, 3697 yards, 28 touchdowns in 62 games. Nowhere near one of the biggest busts in team history.

I wouldn't even say Braylon is one of the 10 worst first round picks since 1999.

Brown, Green, Quinn, Taylor, Richardson, Weeden, Mingo, Gilbert, Manziel and Erving are all significantly worse than Braylon. You could make the case that Couch, Warren, Winslow II are just as bad, if not worse, as well.

Personally, my pick for the biggest bust in Browns history is David Veikune.

Mangini picked him 52nd overall in 2009 and tried to move him from college defensive end to inside linebacker. Guy never recorded a single tackle and was so awful that he was released after ONE YEAR.

This isn't a guy who couldn't stay healthy or a guy that got hit with a murder charge. Veikune literally couldn't play and was out of the league almost immediately. A flat-out bust on talent.

It's Monday morning and I'm still struggling to fully wake up, but is this thread supposed to be about 2017 Browns training camp or another depressing walk down memory lane of draft busts?

Not to be a downer, but this was also in the Camp Notes from yesterday:

http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2017/...-qb-to-be-named-later-and-tempers-flare-late/

Rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer struggled and him tripping over an offensive lineman while dropping back during the final siren period summed up his afternoon.

Again, I don't include this to be a Kizer hater, but clearly their are still some growing pains as he learns to read a defense and drop back from center at the same time. That's common with rookies, just evidence of why the coaching staff is curbing enthusiasm.

Osweiler's lack of touch was the most apparent issue I saw on Thursday, outside the Cam Erving debacle. Kizer fired bullets to every level; it's clear he needs to work on his short-route touch.

Dont agree on Couch. I think he was the one good QB we drafted since the return, which is sad since that is a 18 year history.

lack of o-line, defense and playmakers ruined him, but would have been a good qb if in atleast an average situation.

Everything else i think you are on the money for.

I know the stats dont support my argument, but watching him with my own eyes says that though.

With Richardson and Green both being first round busts, and RB having the lowest bust potential of all positions, it is pretty sad how bad we are at drafting rb's.

In fact our best rb since the return might be Crowell who was an undrafted rookie free agent, lol. (although J lewis and Hillis had a few good years too but we traded for them)

I finally saw the preseason game and took away a few things

Brock was not nearly as bad as some are saying, the one throw should have been a td, he moved the team although 3 or 4 over throws were terrible. Not saying good, but wasnt bad.

Kizer might have more potential than any qb we have drafted since Kosar, but he was really asked to only play to his strengths, much of the playbook was off the table for him. I am excited, but cant see him being opening day starter, if he is, it will be a blood bath early in his career.

Here's another reason I'm not in a rush to get Kizer starting: Browns would need a minor miracle to get a win out of the first three games. Browns open at home against the Steelers, who are a top 5 team on paper. They follow that one with road games against two teams expected to be in the wildcard hunt in the Ravens and Colts. Considering the youth on this offense around Kizer, why put him in such a rough opening three games? While it's important to develop Kizer this year, the young receivers are being developed as well. A veteran who has his imperfections seems like a worthy sacrificial lamb for this opening to the season while Kizer works on consistent mechanics and the nuances of reading an NFL defense.
