Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hubbard would still be a career swing tackle playing RT. No matter how you slice it, the Browns have to be out of the draft with a talent infusion at tackle.

Agree, but doesn't have to be Rd. 1

Take best tier available at any position but QB next year. Then start drafting for need.

You think he actually has a chance to be the left tackle of the future? Would you pass on a lt in the draft because of Harrison? That could be huge and allow the Browns to add more talent to the defensive line.

Absolutely I do.

Talent isn’t a problem. He’s got elite foot speed for his size, will get stronger as he ages.

Good coaching will get him where he needs to be, but I don’t know if he’ll find that here.

That said, if he spins his wheels a bit or doesn’t continue showing improvement, I’ll still sign up for Jonah Williams.

We agree. Everyone likes talking draft in September, but there is so much that will happen between now and April. Last year at this time I thought Orlando Brown Jr. was a lock as top OT prospect and Kolton Miller was the late third rounder. A month ago I thought Trey Adams would be the ideal target for the Browns. It's all going to shift and change in college ball. Hopefully Harrison and Corbett get experience, improve as they make mistakes, and we know more about the actual needs along the line by December.

I wouldn't be as worried about Kirksey not playing. I think they can use Peppers and Kindred more. Avery can get some burn as an actual linebacker and Collins can up his snap count.

As for Ogbah, this is where Dorsey decision to let Nassib go will show how good of a decision that was. Can Chad Thomas or the two DE we got off waivers step up? Garrett was already playing 100% of the snaps last week. Chris Smith will still need to play both DE and DT with the shallow depth at DT.

I dont think Avery, whether now or in the future, is a natural linebacker.

He is a special Edge Defender. Keep him there.

I think Ogbah being out means we will see more Zettel and Chris Smith. Chad Thomas should be inactive.

The little secret has been Kirksey has been terrible against the pass for a while now. As inliner said, they should use this as an opportunity to play both Peppers and Kindred at the same time.

Eh, Nassib was a "waivers" guy too. He was a 13 game starter on an 0-16 team with Ogbah and Garrett opposite him the entire season and he made little impact. Unless we're talking batted passes... Zettel and Smith have been more productive players than Nassib over their careers.

One legacy of the youth movement from 2015 through this off-season will have to be the number of young players who felt a sense of entitlement to a roster spot. Throughout Hard Knocks Nassib interacted with people like he was a core member of the defense. Truth of the matter is that he was replacement level. Compounding that were the players who were dinged up and not trying to get back on the field like DeValve and Brantley. As much as I hated Burgess last season, at least he showed improvement and hunger to improve even more this past off-season. So I'm not sweating a few young players getting cut. When the Browns have seen enough, go out and get somebody else who wants to play. The roster isn't big enough for young and entitled.

I wasn't saying the waiver guys as a bad thing, just really couldn't remember their names. Hopefully one of Chad Thomas, Odenigbo, and/or Zettel get some snaps this week.

Im just hoping we can at least stay with a 6 man rotation on the D-line. I don't think Garrett needs to be playing 100% of the snaps.

Also Nassib played 42% of the snaps last week for the bucks while the 3 guys that replaced him on the Browns got zero despite Ogbah getting hurt. If none of those 3 guys get into the rotation this week, I think we might have to be concern about our depth going forward.

Tampa Bay had the worst defense in total yards and pass yards last season. This season they are bottom five in all categories to start the year. Nassib playing a high snap count on a bad defense has no bearing on what he would do for a good defense, especially with such a small sample size. The Browns are looking to replace the replaceable.
