Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So what's the deal with Brock?

Are the Browns keeping him? Or is it expected that he'll be cut a week after the draft, in the event that we cannot find a taker?

VerSachi is talking about Brock competing for the starting spot today:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-brown-on-osweiler-we-expect-brock-to-be-here

"We expect Brock to be here. He's in, done a good job, coming in the first couple days. Positive young man," Brown said Wednesday during the team's pre-draft news conference. "He's got some ability and talent and we look forward to him trying to establish himself here and have a chance to compete to be the starting quarterback."

...But this is silly season in the NFL, where every team is bluffing to get their top draft targets.

It's still possible they may actually keep him if he is able to show he deserves a chance. It's very unlikely, but you never know how a guy rebounds from literally being dumped like he was.

It would be quite the coup if he somehow was able to turn things around.

Then again, we've been saying that for years with X QB trying to revive a flagging career.

Is there a particular reason he fucking sucked in Houston or did Denver just do a really good job of making mediocre look decent? @AZ_

The latter, it doesn't appear he got along with literally anyone in Houston.

I have zero faith in his abilities, to be honest.

If a trade materializes for Brock at some point between now and camp, then go for it. Even if it's for a 2018 6th round pick or "give up a 7th to get a 6th" or something of that ilk.

If not, the Browns have to pay him for 2017 anyway so they might as well keep him as a backup/third stringer.

He's not good, but he does have 21 career starts which is more than the rest of the QBs on the roster combined right now.

Assuming he's not going to act like complete asshole/distraction in the QB meeting room (which is not necessarily a guarantee based on some of the comments out of Houston since he was traded), then there's no real downside to having him on the roster.

If it appears he has an attitude about being a backup or anything of the sort, then you can cut him and be on your way.

I have no qualms keeping him if we don't get any good offers and he is worth it attitude wise. Sometimes the best thing for a guy is to be dumped like he was, it can be an eye opener and an attitude changer as well.

Brock is probably just as good of a QB place holder as RG3 was last year, except he comes with a free draft pick. Hopefully he ends up being a good citizen and doesn't get in the way of exploring how Kessler is developing. I'm optimistic that Cody Kessler might not suck this year. It's fun to root for an underdog.

I think there's a better chance that Kessler is a decent QB than that we'll see the Browns draft a QB who is a decent pro QB from day 1.

So it looks like Bridgewater might be available because Vikings arent picking up his 11 million dollar option.

Knee injury was really, really bad, but do we have any interest in getting into a bidding ware for him with the Vikings?

Nope, sorry Teddy.

Going to have to come back and prove something, and I don't think that's happening after a couple years away from the game and clear long-term injury risk.

It also depends on his price. I am not sure if he will be able to play much this season, but if he signs a cheap one year deal, I wouldn't be opposed to it. We just don't know how well he will actually be once he returns

For the right price we have no reason not to at least look at him next season. He didn't play poorly in Minnesota, but it's possible he never recovers too.
He had a lot of choice words to say about the Cleveland Browns after the draft a few years ago. He's not coming here, nor do I see us kicking the tires.
