Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
To me I think Mayfield is the toughest QB to evaluate of the 4. I could really see him being a top 10 QB, but I could also just as easily see him flaming out.

It's just so hard to evaluate him when you consider his offensive line and offensive coordinator would make any of the other top QBs blush and his conference is known for no defensive play at all. I think he involves the most projecting

Baker scares the absolute crap out of me. I agree that he involves a ton of projection... I simply have no idea how his game will translate to the next level, especially given all the benefits playing on that team and in that system provided him that may have masked his flaws.

But man... he's made from the same combustible stuff that Johnny is. Not the drug addict/lazy part (as far as I can tell) so he's not nearly as bad as Manziel; but the "F-you, I'm going to be me and you're going to deal with it" part. Saying he doesn't have time for the Chargers because he has too much on his plate (like a shirtless SI spread) is more than bad optics.

I think he has a better chance to succeed than Johnny because he doesn't play with the same style and isn't as bad personally but he makes me really uneasy. I'd be more than a little nervous if we pulled the trigger on him.

If Josh Allen were standing in the middle of First Energy Stadium, how many of those regions could he hit with a deep ball?

None! He would hit the body of waters all around the states though! Lol

Well, Dorsey might not be high at all on the coaches... so....

This is a point that I think sometimes gets forgotten. I think Hue is a dead man walking and Dorsey is going to take the guy "he" wants and not what Hue wants.

Nothing ground breaking, but a little from my day

Spoke with some Brown's fans who are adamant we are going to pick Allen at #1. I asked why. Same response from each person, "He has the biggest hands and can throw the ball 70 yards easily".

I can understand if someone likes a different qb than I do. But to only back it up with that gargabe is idiocy.

I am being totally serious about that one sentence being their sole reason. I questioned about his accuracy and being able to hit the checkdown receiver or throwing a wr open.............."It doesn't matter when you have hands that big or can throw it that far"

I can't get those 4 minutes of my life back.

I was talking to someone the other day that was telling me they did not want the Browns to take a QB at 1 or 4 but admitted they probably would. He wanted us to take the BPA at all times and that's how good teams do it. I asked him who the best player was in the draft and he said Barkley but didn't want him.

I have this inate sense, that common sense slowly leaves a person over the course of time. And some never develop it.

I swear some people just constantly repeat what they read online or watch on TV as it's they're own opinion without even knowing what they are saying.

I think I need to watch some more tv to see how to handle this "New Flat America"

Can we be serious for a second? Wyoming is more "midwest" than Ohio. It's literally just west of what I'd consider the "middle" of America. Whoever decided Ohio was located in the "midwest" is celebrating the holiday today.
Yeah, I will never understand how Ohio is considered the midwest. I refer to Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin as the Great Lakes region. Cause it sure as hell isn't the midwest.

Back from lunch boys. I can't believe we are worried about if someone puts down Midwest as where he is from. I am a history major, I think I know where Wyoming is. That is pretty weak to have to pick at that, but if I have to bring my IQ down a few notches to fit in I guess I can do that.
So let's' get back to what this is originally about. In my opinion I think Allen brings a lot to the table. He has more than a strong arm. He can run the ball when the pocket breaks down or receivers are covered. He has great escapability, a small sample of that is in the Senior Bowl. He is a winner, I am sure I will get flack for that. But if you see Wyoming as a team that wins very little much like the Browns, back to back 8 win seasons is good. He ran a run first offense that wouldn't even pass if they had a choice. So when he usually got to pass it is because it was 2nd or 3rd down and long. It has been pointed out by quite a few that he grows as a qb each week. He started from the bowl game, went and got better each day at the Senior Bowl . He preformed very well at the combine, that coming from several sources. And then at his Pro day he preformed very well again. I was not impressed by his receivers but they had been working out with him and Darnold out in California. He could only use one receiver from Wyoming as no senior receivers to throw to except his fullback. Allen has preformed well at all of the private workouts from the people reporting it. Which isn't many. One of the things the talking heads bring up is that Allen has kept growing whenever he gets better coaching. That is a big plus, which means he is no where close to his ceiling. Teams notice those type of things. He is also a quality person who would love to step in and play in Cleveland. He plays pretty damn good in foul weather, another plus. His teammates look to him to lead them, and he usually comes through for them. When Wyoming would play P5 teams he tried to do too much because no one else was able to step up. Wyoming has not been able to build up their depth enough to even begin to stay with P5 teams.

The Jets were the team who came to Laramie to scout him the most. The Jets asked the most questions about Allen and the Jets press reported the most about Allen early in the process. Elway personally scouted Allen and Darnold at their respective bowl games. The Broncos had them both in for private workouts. As you all know Dorsey and the owner met with Allen and his parents at Pro day and the same goes for Darnold.

I personally don't feel Allen is ready to step in like Darnold and Rosen. He needs to sit out and gain some experience. Playing at Wyoming he is not as ready as they are to cope with so much so early. I don't feel it would be in the best interest in Cleveland or the staffs to draft Allen at this point. The fan base has waited too long to get in this position to take the qb that is the most ready to play now. And I admit Allen needs to go to a team that didn't have so many question marks. I would understand if they saw what Allen could be, but I feel that a different qb is the safe play. The circumstances seem to dictate that. But I am not going to say I think Allen wouldn't be the correct pick if Tyrod could be that bridge qb they are hophopng he would be. Then the Browns could pick whoever they want. But there are no guarantees that Tyrod can pull it off, so the Browns need to go the safe route. I don't feel any of the quarterbacks are a sure thing, but Darnold feels the safest. I think the big 4 can all bring something special to the NFL as quarterbacks, or all the draft people wouldn't be touting them so much. Falk and Rudolph would be in the discussions more if that was the case. Anyway, I hope the Browns get who they want and I hope you guys can stay positive about the other quarterbacks . The reason for that is you don't know who the Browns are going to pick. I would like to see all of the qb's taken in the first two rounds do well. College qb's are not like they used to be coming in, most of them have been getting prepared for the NFL for years. Cleveland will do well to get any of the big 4.

This is still primarily a Cavaliers fan website, and the Anthony Bennett pick at #1 overall is still just too recent for me personally. I remember talking up so many players that year. This board was really high on Steven Adams and The Greek Freak, and many of us said something like, "yeah, I dunno if we can take him #1 overall. He's a high ceiling, low floor prospect.". So what did Chris Grant do? He took a low ceiling player who ended up having the floor of being out of the NBA in his prime years. Ooooooh, it still stings!

Now the NBA and the NFL have plenty of differences in how you go about drafting a team. One thing is sure though... if it feels like a gut punch right after the commissioner announces the pick, your instincts are usually correct.

Precisely my worry with Allen. The floor is literally out of the league in a few years. And I think it's fair to say that is more likely than him reaching this "Best QB in the NFL" ceiling that many are citing for him.

We need to know how far in the family tree your region deems acceptable for marriage or just FWB type of situation.

Kidding........ no really. Or not. Testing your humor gauge

The other part of your post seems reasonable. I watched maybe 8 games of Allen, maybe 10, I ain't kept notes for myself in a few years, so I speak from a watcher who would like to truly understand why you feel like you do for Allen. Me personally, I feel he is better suited to Not go in the 1st round unless it were for a team like the pats or Stealers. Even then, he needs some major work. 2nd round is more reasonable with where I think his strengths and weaknesses are. You know, my opinion. And yes I am an expert scout, just like the other million that scout from their couches or if duty calls, the bathroom :chuckle:

I see a lot of Derek Anderson with this kid. Can throw a country mile, but the short and intermediate passes are going to lose you the game.

I was severely unimpressed with his combine performance. Yeah, I know, it was the combine and all the receivers were new to him. I actually like that aspect of the combine, because it gives us a chance to see how quickly the qbs process how the receivers are moving and if the qbs can adjust their throws. Allen didn't impress me as I saw receivers who would be facing big injuries coming across the middle with his placement.

I wish the kid nothing but the best, as he seems like the ideal ideal prospect with his character. But, I agree with you, I don't see him becoming successful for the browns because we don't have the luxury of waiting 3-4 years before he should be the face of a team

It was considered the Midwest cause of History in the US not exactly it’s geographical location. Anything north of the Ohio River got considered Midwest just like anything on the other side of the Mississippi River.
