Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Not sure why anyone wants Dobbs in the NFL. He could not even complete balls to wide open wrs on a consistent basis on the college level if you watched Tenn football. He will probably have a miserable time vs second and third stringers in pre season, let alone the real guys if he ever gets reg season time. You are not the first person to bring him up, but there really is no basis for thinking he can play a lick at the pro level.

He's 3rd string and probably around a 6th round pick. Nothing wrong with a developmental QB, Hue and Swami Brown are probably going to take one this year

It really depends if they land JG or not. IF they dont they need to do more then draft a guy with a UDfA grade as a "developmental qb." TT is fine as brief bridge qb,(1-2 years, preferably one for me) but you eventually need someone on the other side of that bridge pretty soon, and that guy needs to be much more than Josh Dobbs in my opinion or any other long shot.
Out of Kayaa, Watson, Mahomes, Trubisky, Peterman and Kizer the Browns should investigate the hell out of that group if they dont land JG and find a way to secure who they like best. Is it easy no? But that is what they are paid millions to do.

Keys bottom line. No matter if it is trading for JG or drafting the right rookie this year, if the Browns still have a whole at QB in two years and the team is still well below .500 this admin is out the door. I liked JG out of college but I can not pretend he is a sure thing as a top 15 NFL guy. Do we have the right talent evaluaters to look at his college tape and limited pro action and make that determination? That is the million dollar question. The selection of Kessler and RG 3 are pretty alarming to be honest as the brief history of the staff's ability to evaluate qb play.

Can't disagree with anything you said, but there's no guarantee for that top by 15 QB drafting a blue chipper over Garrett or trading for Garoppolo. As for the love of Mahomes in the second round, I ask: If he's that good, does he rocket up the draft boards like Bortles? I hate the idea that the Browns are willing to gamble a starting level QB will be there at #33.

Samaki Brown needs to get the bat off his shoulder at some point, because the offense needs a viable quarterback. I agree with Seiklis that RG3 was a dumpster dive for the year, but I'll be concerned if the front office goes back into the dumpster two years in a row.

Garappolo's lack of injury at Div 1AA Eastern Illinois means little. Here in the big leagues, that off-shoulder get driven into the ground on the regular.

Well everytime I do a mock in First Pick Mahomes is always gone by the Tenn pick we have:chuckle: He use to be there at the top of the third in December.:chuckle:
In all seriousness SOBO from the OBR (works for Bleacher Report) thinks Mahomes is not even a lock to be there at 33, like you stated.

I don't know that Mahomes isn't a lock to be a first round pick at this point.

Teams will trade into late first for Mahomes to get the 5th year.

Flacco's lack of injury at Div 1AA Delaware means little. Here in the AFC North, that off-shoulder get driven into the ground on the regular.

I think people don't realize how effective a league average QB can be. The league average is pretty damn good right now and puts your numbers anywhere from Cousins to Mariota. I'd take either of those guys. Hanging around in the middle of them are Tyrod, Flacco, Dalton and Jameis who I don't love so much but FFS if that's where JG was for his first couple years I'd take it.

If Jimmy G is evaluated to be that level of QB, best believe Sabika Brown should be on that like Sashimi on rice.

Make a top 20 NFL quarterback list? Don't mind if we do!

Top Shelf Franchise: Rodgers, Ryan, Brady, Cam, Big Ben, Luck, Carr

Second Rate Franchise QB: Brees, Wilson, Stafford, Dalton, Manning, Rivers, Cousins

Third Tier: Flacco, Mariota, Winston, Dak, maybe Palmer bounces back? Maybe Alex Smith? This 15-20 area is wide open if Satchmo Brown plays his cards right. Plenty of second rate FQBs are reaching the end of their careers.

Of course, I was not speaking about Flacco (who has proven relatively durable), but Garoppolo, the QB many are speculating will cost CLE at least a 1st round pick to acquire via trade, will require a multi-year high dollar contract extension, and who lasted 1.5 games before suffering a separated shoulder. His college injury record has been posted in this thread as an example of his lack of injury history as its relates to the cost of acquiring him.

What happens on the next NFL hit of this type, or the one after that. Of course, no one knows. And that's the point.

How high does RCF darling Josh Dobbs make it on your list by the year 2019 :chuckle:

I'd move Cam down to second due to some level of inconsistency and for Carr it's a little early for me to put him in tier 1, though I think he'll be there eventually. Also...Brady, Rodgers, Roeth, Brees are the only gues in tier 1. I just can't put Carr and Cam in there with them.

I'd bump Brees to tier 1 because he's still extremely efficient. I'm assuming you did this, because he's on the way out.

I'd bump Mariota and Dak into tier 2. Really versatile, smart guys who I don't think will ever be tier 1 guys but may hang around the edge of the top 10 their whole career. Id'd take that all day.
