Cleveland Cavaliers at Top of LaMarcus Aldridge's Destination List

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I agree with both of you guys....

LMA would be a great addition. But, I also think he will be going to San Antonio.

it will be odd to see because a Love, L.A, Bron, Shump, Kyrie would be like.... when Espn tried to put Melo into the heat big three. However this is actually realistic if worked out right but yeah that means Bye two out of Smith, Shump, and T.T while keeping Love.

I wish. I have a feeling he will go to the Spurs though.

I will probably get crucified for this, but I'd much rather pay Lamarcus 17 mil over TT. Just saying...

Why would you get crucified for this? IMO, this goes without saying. However, unless something changes, I think it's a pipedream at best.

I can dream right? I almost wish Love would leave for this then I am reminded Love is what 25 years old? So yeah keep love and a better dream would be Wade as ironic as it sounds.

Wait what.

Isn't LA like 32 yrs old? Isn't TT like 24? hmm gosh. I'll take TT two times each Sunday and 3 times on Thursday over LA.

LaMarcus Aldridge is 29 (will turn 30 in July), and he's kinda of a lot better than Thompson

But this isn't even a remote possibility anyway

The Cavaliers won't be able to do a sign-and-trade for Aldridge this offseason unless they renounce their free agents because they're so far over the Luxury Tax line. It sucks, but that's one of the penalties the current CBA bestowed on Tax teams.

Hmmmmm I dunno... I'd kinda like to have LaMarcus this Sunday

You and me both.

Quick question.

How do you suggest we get LMA?

I was talking to a buddy of mine, and I was thinking of ways this could be possible, but I'm not sure. Trading TT could be a way since he's going to be commanding top dollar, and I hope we aren't willing to pay that to keep him on the bench.

There's really only one way to do it.

We trade ourselves below the apron offering Portland pretty much whatever they want out of the bucket of Anderson Varejao, Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert, JR Smith, Delly, our picks, and Brendan Haywood.

Obviously there would be restrictions on that (as in, you can't take both Shump and Smith), but in general the way to get Aldridge is to (1): convince him that he can play center in our lineup for 24 minutes a game (GSW winning without a center should help that case); (2): convince him to tell Portland he either S&Ts to Cleveland or he walks to San Antonio (or elsewhere).

That's how it gets done. But it's a tall order and means Thompson and Varejao must go (Varejao need not be traded, he can be stretch waived - but trading him is preferable).

What kind of offer would you offer the Blazers?

I used the trade machine and gave them TT/Andy for LMA. How would a sign and trade be for TT? Wouldn't we have to sign him and wait the 30 days?

S&T's in the current CBA rarely offer real value. It's either a few pieces plus or he walks for nothing.

In this instance though, Portland would get assets, lots of them, because of our need to dump salary.

Also, if we end up under the apron, the only salary restriction imposed on the trade is that we trade down in salary as Portland is way below the cap at the end of any trade with us. So we really only need to match salary + $100k and have our ending salary at or below $84.9M.

Haywood + Thompson at $15M + Shump + Miller + Harris + picks would be enough value for Portland, easily. But we'd still need to move Varejao. Either someone takes him as an expiring (which is likely) or we stretch waive him (at which point, he retires, and we hire him as a well-paid coach?).

Also, the bright side of this is that if one of Love or Aldridge don't work out, both have tremendous value in a straight-up trade and having Aldridge on a 4-year deal gives us tremendous flexibility moving forward (his contract would be an absolute steal in the next CBA).

Damn, it seems like if we were able to get him, we'd lose a bunch of depth, right?

That's something I hope David Griffin looks into.

Thank you. Very informative.

Yes definitely, we'd lose depth because we'd lose 2 guards and 2 bigs for Aldridge.

Haywood need not be a part of the deal, we could trade Haywood for depth. We could trade Tristan for depth. The deal I outlined is really just to get us below the apron to facilitate the trade. It could be structured better with a third team taking one of Haywood, Varejao or Thompson and giving us back some much needed reserves.
