Cleveland Indians 2018-2019 Offseason Outlook

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you can get Madson on a cheap 1 year deal I'd be all for it. He stunk last year and is real old, but he was a pretty damn good reliever from 2015-2017

I'd love Adam Jones. Think the fit here along with his likely price tag is nearly perfect as a left fielder.

Madson would be a bleh signing for me. 39 by September, and took such a significant decline last year in nearly every major statistic. If he was non-guaranteed and won the job out of spring, then alrighty, but if he's brought in as a "major" bullpen bandaid, that's not good.

I like Jones as well and feel he'd fit pretty well in the lineup as a LF. His splits are pretty even and he is well-respected around the game.

I'll also pass on Madson unless it's a minor league deal. He was awful last year. I'd rather re-sign Allen or go after Holland, Romo, or Kelley.

Still funny how we’re about 4 weeks out from the first couple teams pitchers and catchers reporting. All these guys still unsigned. That is not a good look.

Not for the players, but for the Indians this is a great thing, that means the market won't be as high so their money could stretch a little farther now.

That being said, last year was the same way and the players union investigated why, but nothing was filed against the owners that went very far. My guess is the owners are starting to get more frugal overall/the prices of players is not really going to increase a whole ton anymore. Outside of honestly a Harper and Machado, we really won't see any 100 Mil or higher contracts this off season. So the market isn't really going the players way right now (That being said though honestly, if you can control yourself, you can easily live off of a million dollars in a lifetime so to me they get plenty as it is).

This market is good for the smaller markets since the players prices will have to come down. I think we all agree we want either a Pollock (good player, but his price demand is to high for his injury issues) or Marwin Gonzalez, who is a perfect fit for Francona and this roster cause he can play most positions.

We will be bringing in as many veterans on minor league contracts with spring training invites, incentives and opt out clauses that we can this off season. With major holes and likely not going to trade Kluber or Bauer now (pitchers and catchers reporting is the deadline), we are going to need a reclamation project and the young guys, Bauers, Allen, Luplow, etc, to have breakout/people return to glory years.

I am okay if we get him a minor league deal with incentives if he makes the roster or opt out clause, but I don't want him otherwise.

Adam Jones is another guy who is eh to me. He has a negative defense in the OF, his batting numbers weren't actually good last year and he has been regressing as a player over the last few seasons overall I feel. I would rather have Markakis than Jones at the end of the day. Span, Gonzalez, Revere are all on the market and its possible to get one or two on a minor league deal. I think the team outside of Pollock or Marwin on a major league deal will add guys via the minor league deal to add to the roster. I don't think Jones is the answer at this point of his career plus it is likely he won't sign for less than 5-8 mil to be honest.

I feel with this market, we are going to be able to bring in veteran arms, both starters and relievers, to compete and try and make this team. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Tomlin, then signing guys like Shields as well into camp. Who knows we may even be able to get a Pomeranz on a minor league deal for one season and see if he can get back to his 16/17 form.

This got me thinking about the Indians being able to approach Lindor with another offer in the $200+ range.

Can we even merit giving Lindor a contract like that?

ESPN.com has an article which included this trade:

Cincinnati gets Corey Kluber

Cleveland gets 2B Scooter Gennett
OF - Scott Schebler
OF Taylor Trammell MLB #17 Reds #2 prospect
P - Tony Santillan Reds #5 prospect.

Gennett has one year of control and Schebler has 4 years.

I don't like it. Gennett would help one year only and Schebler is blah. Prospects not close to ready. I say no.

What are your thoughts?

That sounds genuinely awful.

Three years of a premier pitcher demands a greater return, not one year of a plus player and one semi-elite prospect.

I'm not interested unless Cincinnati includes one of Senzel, Iglesias, or Suarez.

From what I hear, Frankie wants to be elsewhere. Not that he dislikes Cleveland, but he wants a bigger market.

Frankie?

Quite the opposite, actually.

Little shocking when I heard it, but he most certainly wants to stay, just will come down to the $. Not going to give a "hometown discount" which I think is causing people to say he wants to move on.

Only one person on the team I've heard who wants to be elsewhere sooner than later, and it's not Frankie.
