Cleveland Indians 2018-2019 Offseason Outlook

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good news for you season ticket holders, in honor of the Indians cutting costs and not signing any OFs, they're giving us free MLB TV, and you can get radio streams on MLB .com. and you still get what is it 15%-20%? off at the team shop for all your new Tribe gear.

I do listen to a lot of Hammy, so that'll work out.

Dioner Navarro is fucking terrible. Hasn't played in any MLB system since 2016 and couldn't even hit over .270 in the Atlantic league last year. Waste of time even talking to that dude.

Perez, Plawecki, Haase, and Ice are all better right now.

Flaherty has hit .216 for his career and has more career seasons with a negative WAR (4) than a postive or neutral WAR (3). He's a solid defensive second basemen, but I'd rather play Moroff there if we had to.

Both guys will be non-factors.

Flaherty is probably Columbus depth. Navarro is just to give the Indians another catcher to work with all of their pitchers in Spring Training.

Using my previous posts, here's who is still out there with pitchers and catchers reporting on Tuesday:

Marwin Gonzalez - Originally expected to get a long-term deal, he may be best suited to take a 1 year contract and re-enter the market next year. The Indians could offer a starting position and being on a contender, but so could other teams, including the Astros.

Mike Moustakas - This would require Kipnis or Bauers moving to the outfield, but Moose would add some power to a lineup that could really use it, and could probably be had on a one year deal.

Adam Jones - Still a solid player that had an excellent 2nd half. A starting position + a chance to win should be intriguing to him on a one year deal.

Derek Dietrich - Can play all over the field (although not well) and has an underrated bat. He's also a Cleveland native. I can't imagine he'd require more than a small one year deal.

Logan Morrison - Hit 38 HRs in 2017 for the Rays before having a miserable 2018 with the Twins. Could be interesting on a minor league deal.

Josh Harrison - Decent player that can play all over the field. An all-star in both 2014 and 2017. Probably a replacement-level guy at this point, but his versatility would make him a Tito favorite.

Yangervis Solarte - Had some nice years in San Diego but really struggled with Toronto last year. Would expect him to have to take a minor league deal.

Melky Cabrera - Pretty solid at the plate once he settled in after not having a Spring Training. Not great in the field, but passable.

Carlos Gonzalez - Has spent most of his career in Colorado, where he was an all-star in 2016. His best years are behind him, but he'd be a solid veteran to add.

Denard Span - Pretty underrated IMO. Put .261/.341/.419 in 2018 with solid defense. Likely dirt cheap - he could help.

Jim Johnson - Has closing experience. Would be OK on a minor league deal.

Ryan Madson - Plenty of late inning experience, but his overall numbers were ugly last year and he looked rough in the postseason.

Bud Norris - Saved 28 games for St. Louis last year with decent overall numbers. Not sure he'd fit in the clubhouse though.

AJ Ramos - Was superb for the Marlins from 2013-2017 before imploding with the Mets. He ended 2018 in May with surgery on a torn labrum. He'd be an interesting guy to take a shot on.

Sergio Romo - Served as both the Rays' "opener" and closer last year and was decent in both roles. Tito would love him.

Nick Vincent - Has a career 3.17 ERA in 7 seasons and was decent last year. Would be a solid pickup if the cost was low.

Adam Warren - Pretty underrated pitcher IMO - had a 3.14 ERA and 52/20 K/BB in 51.2 IP last season.

Xavier Cedeno - Cedeno was superb for the White Sox and Brewers last year. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about the market for him.

Jake Diekman - Was really good for Texas in 2016/2017. Started well in 2018 before being dealt to Arizona, where he was pretty bad (12 ER in 14.1 IP).

Tony Sipp - Our old friend was pretty damn good in Houston last year, although he only pitched 38.2 innings. He was awful in 2016/2017.

Sucked last year against everyone, but prior to that was a great platoon guy.

Killed righties, and abysmal vs lefties.

RHP platoon player with a historically good walk rate

Stunk through the first 2 months of the season and pretty much missed the rest of the year with a lumbar strain

Joyce has always been a decent player, though I am not sure how he fits in when we don't have any right handed bats to be sincere, but solid signing nonetheless. I just don't see him beating out Naquin, Allen etc to make the team.

Indians Twitter hates it, because Indians Twitter hates everything.

I could see him beating out Naquin, who hasn't been a positive contributor since mid-summer 2016
