Porter's interview up:

[video=youtube;UHsSCFGIw4M]
-His agent told him the Prince comparisons were hurting him, so now he's comparing himself to Durant.

Haha yeah, there's no doubt that's what's going on there. He doesn't remind me of Durant other than being tall and skinny, which is basically what he responded to Simmons when asked "how" he thought he compared to Durant. Pretty valid question.

Porter's interview up:

Couple of quick notes:

-He kinda sucks at interviews. Turn your volume up.

-His agent told him the Prince comparisons were hurting him, so now he's comparing himself to Durant.

-He played center in high school, which is kind of unusual. That explains why he has such an effective post game, and he could really create mismatches down low if he bulks up.

Also seemed obvious that he couldn't give less of a shit about people's critiques of him. When they asked him if people doubting him motivated him, he really sounded like he didn't even take that into account. He seemed like he just improved because he wanted to and worked hard.

LOL. Who voted the last option? Jim Paxson?

I hope the Cavs just pick him #1 and go w/Dieng at 19, trade everything else.

That interview makes me like Porter even more. Soft spoken, likes to work, likes to play D. I agree that the Durant comparison is more of a body type comparison. He's not elite like Durant, but he could come off as a poor man's KD.

As far as the role player comments go, I stress that Porter is not a role player. A role player is a guy who is great at one thing, maybe good at a second, and average or lower at most everything else. Frankly, Noel appears to be more of a role player than Porter. He should be a monster on D and blocking shots, but what else? Will he ever get a mid-range J of any kind? He's a garbage FT shooter, so he's a liability whenever he has the ball because they'll just play ye olde Hack A Shaq. I find it hard to believe that Noel will ever be more than a 5th option on offense. His putbacks should put him into the 10ppg range, but I doubt he could go much beyond that.

I'm not sure there's any guy that could end up being the #1 option for any offense in this draft. Someone may emerge. Porter is likely a 2nd or 3rd option - but he fits well there.

I love all that Porter brings to the table on offense. If you've got a C and PF that can post up, you can pull Porter into the post as well and try to collapse the defense around the paint, opening up the wings for wide open Js. Porter's the most versatile player in the draft on both sides of the ball.

I really don't want any of the centers at #1. If it's not Porter, I'd want Oladipo. I think those are the two best players in the draft. Oladipo would require some personnel shifts, but give you lock down perimeter D, a solid shot, and the best motor in this draft. I don't think he can hit superstar status, but I think he can up to being a solid 15ppg wing who brings the pain on D, can shoot a distance, and be a great team role model.

But Porter fits the needs, can play meaningful minutes immediately, and is pretty far along for a 19 year old. I'm not one who thinks that the Cavs' interest in vet small forwards with ending contracts means anything other than they want a vet to mentor a young SF. That's how I see it.

I trust Grant, though. Whatever he does, I'm buying in.

I'll likely be driving to Ohio when the #1 pick is announced tomorrow, but I sure hope it is us who picks Otto.

At this point with Otto not being mentioned for over a week it would not be surprising if they pick Otto then try to move up for Adams or Zeller

I just posted this same thing in the draft thread...I feeeel it in my bones!

Otto Porter hasn't been mentioned in a while. It's almost suspicious.

The Cavs are thought to be choosing between Noel and Alex Len, but one high-level NBA executive said that he wouldn't be surprised if Otto Porter is still in the mix. "That's the only name that hasn't come out of their camp. We've heard Noel, Len, [Ben] McLemore, [Victor] Oladipo and even Anthony Bennett. The one name that we haven't heard from them is Porter -- and that leads me to believe it could all be a smoke screen from Chris Grant."

If there ever was a combo of players, that would push the Cavs towards the Playoffs out of this group. You have named them both. To come away with Porter and Zeller, that would give us 2 solid pieces (not dynamic) but enough to start Playoff talks after the draft.

Not to mention it sure is nice not worrying about acl's and rehab. Always nice to see your new rooks on the court.

I would love Porter and either Adams or Gobert. Still think Zeller is softer than Charmin.

Austin Carr's column was the most suspicious i saw with regard to not mentioning Porter. He boiled down the draft decision to Noel, Len, McLemore, or Oladipo...almost as if Grant had told him "hey, don't talk too much about Porter, okay?"

I think it's stretching it to assume that Austin Carr has any input whatsoever into draft day decisions, or that he's at all in the loop as to who the Cavs will draft. He's basically a team-employed personality that they keep around because the fans love him. He's not part of the front office (as far as I know), and I doubt they police his articles at all outside of making sure he keeps them generally positive.

I think you're reading too much into it. There were a lot of guys not mentioned and I highly doubt Austin Carr has any insight into who the Cavs are picking.

Nah he and McLeod were on ESPN 850 and they genuinely weren't high on Porter.
