Sexton is still a bit raw in certain aspects, yet his feel of the game and instincts are quite good. I feel like he is the type of player that really has potential to develop 3-4 years down the line. Look at how Westbrook's career/stats jumped huge after like year 6 (albeit many factors contribute).

We just need to continue to go to him and put the ball in his hands as much as possible. I like that we trusted him for the game winner today and he got a great look. Could have easily made that shot.

Perfect game really, got some good development into this kid, competed and lost. By the time we have Zion or RJ hopefully Sexton is really ready to break out

It’s almost like it’s inappropriate to make sweeping judgements about players 10 games into their NBA careers...

Especially when they are 19 and being stupidly paired with Jordan McChucks. He played pretty well last night and made the game worthwhile to watch.

Yeah I never liked the 2nd unit back court , had hoped that would change some with either Sexton moved to the starting role as he has been now, or with JC moved next to Hill in the starting lineup pairing Hood on the 2nd unit with Sexton etc. 2 guards that need the ball and one of whom is being told to "be himself" and score as the first option on the 2nd unit leaves Sexton in a tough spot. You can already see the game is slowing down for him some after only 2 games in that better situation. He got robbed by that timeout call btw he had a clear path. out of the timeout he should have taken it to the rack not setlled, but I think he will learn from it.

He did take it to the rack?

I had a hard believing how many people couldn't wait to start calling this kid a bust, throwing dirt on his grave at this point of the process. Dumbasses.

I remember when Kyrie missed his first shot at a game winner...very similar situation, missed a layup after a good hard drive to the paint.

Obviously Collin doesn’t have Kyries skillset but the kid can get to the rack, pull up and stop on a dime, change direction seamlessly, etc etc.

Very excited for the kid. He can be a great scorer in this league with his speed, handle and drive to win. I really hope he starts the rest of the year. We are going to be treated to a couple special performances if he’s given the opportunity, I believe. I would be surprised if he doesn’t explode for 30 a few times. He’s a better shooter than people have given him credit for as well. He just needs to keep taking those shots. No reason he can’t decelop a good enough jumper to make guys think twice about playing so far off.

That's funny, that's the exact event that popped into my mind right after that shot.

(Unfortunately.... the next thought I had was doubt that he's capable of the redemption part that Kyrie had :( )

I don't know if Sexton is going to continue to be a 90% FT shooter, but there are very few elite FT shooters that don't also end up being at least 35% 3PT shooters too.

You really just need a guy to show flashes. He has already done that and is not shooting bad at all from 3 as a rookie. No mystery that it feels a little out of range for him.

As he got more comfortable and was a credible threat to drive, he also got some assists. I want to to see more of that, and maybe more importantly passing when he is having trouble scoring.

He's shooting 40% from three on really low volume (0.5/1.3) and he's shots from three account for 13.4% of his total FG taken per game (9.7 FGA). I agree and also think he works best when he plays to his instincts as a scorer first then passer second.

I hope the organization learns from the development of Kyrie and Dion, that they need to install plays that Sexton can run for other guys. They really should be adding a couple plays a game and/or developing counter shots/moves for him with current plays. He has to be a passing threat or teams will just doubling/trapping him.

Yeah so far the drive and kick has been decent for him. I haven't seen him take Kyrie level difficult shots over the double team yet, but that could be coming for all I know as he gets more aggressive. It was big fault of both Dion and Kyrie that they would take the more difficult shot at the rim instead of the easy pass to the big.

@LeeBuckeye is right as well. Collin isn't shooting badly from 3, when he does take it. He need to increase his attempts from there. Especially when they are laying way back like that.

It would be good if he had some elite NBA skills already like Doncic or even passing ability like Young, but getting incrementally better at a few things seems pretty doable for him. He has already shown growth.
