From the Cavstheblog: wish he would stop passing up open 3's to shoot not just a mid range pull up but a very tough mid range pullup. He's got to stop not just his forward momentum but his sideways momentum to shoot this type of shot. Unless your Chris Paul or Dirk this shit isn't going to work

Yeah he takes alot of mis range jumpers, some are even contested which makes me mad. He needs to shoot lay ups or and threes. Fading away is something he should remove from his game.

Hes got a decent floater though.

Ever since they asked him to lay off the shooting sessions, his shot has gone to shit. I think it's part of his routine and it seems dumb to mess with it when it was working for him.

They asked him to lay off shooting g sessions?!

Nice to see he is working to find the open man and create of teammates some. But god damn is his shot selection poor, with his speed, he needs to be going to the rim car mode often.

I wasn’t trying to discuss the value of the 8th pick or whether the Cavs should have picked someone else. I was saying that Sexton is worse than most rookies who play significant minutes in the NBA. He is worse than many players that were considered busts. He can turn it around I suppose, but for the past few weeks, he has been “not turning it arround”.

Which of those rookies played in a worse or equal situation?

The past few weeks, Sexton was playing with a roster full of guys that could easily be out of the league in 24 months.

There are some concerning things with him but this situation is a dumpster fire. Mediocre coach, bad roster, no obvious player development. I’m not sure what developmental rookie 19-20 year old would be doing any better looking at what he’s dealing with.

That’s not to say he’s guaranteed to succeed as the situation improves but even having a few semi competent NBA level players would do wonders.

Yeah apparently Sexton has always taken extra shooting sessions on his own outside of set practice. The organization asked him to stop them to save his legs since he has never played this many games in a season.

I can't remember who reported it but it was right around when his shooting started to slip. Douglas posted an article in this thread about it on December 23 (article is from the 21st). Read the paragraph right above the bolded part that's included in the post.

That's stupid.

That's stupid.

They said at the start of the broadcast that Sexton had a late night shooting session with his dad. He came out shooting alot better in the first half but it fell off. It was at least some progress in the right direction with his shooting. Still not a good shooting night but at least it wasn't terrible.

Real question is why isn’t the coaching staff saying anything about it

Who knows with this coaching staff and the horrible scheme we are running. I watched it with the audio off and didn't realize what was going on at first. To me both Sexton and Burks seem confused who is suppose to rotate over.

Under a normal NBA offense you would assume Sexton was suppose to move over to the other side once Cedi rotated but Burks also initializes the offense so he might be the PG in this situation. Thus Sexton might actually be the one in position and Burks is supposed to cut across the defense to the corner. All I know is when Burks is in with the starters he doesn't seem to play as well and the starting lineup seems to run smoother with other players.

I guess anyone can occasionally bobble the ball and lose it out of bounds. I do it all the time. But for some reason that one by Sexton last night was painful. Looked like it was going to be a fast break up the left side of the court and he butterfingered the ball out of bounds. You could tell he was pissed at himself. I understand that because I was pissed at him too.

He didn't look at it, he was already off to the races.

He played a team game last night and hit some 3's confidently. I do think it is crazy people are so hard on him. He has shown progress even through a very tough stretch where nobody on the team is really playing well.

There were several mistakes that were momentum killers, and turnovers were the story of the night. That one and the Clarkson dribbling off his knee in a crucial moment could have been the difference in the game.

I thought the team responded really well last night and was pleased how they kept fighting. On the whole the executed much better in the second half, and that kind of progress is what we are looking for.

Sure turnovers by young players can be costly, but that is the area young players improve the most. It is my area of least concern quite frankly. Both Collin and Cedi have tightened their handle and seem to be improving on not exposing the ball too much. The first quarter against the team that causes the most turnovers was not indicative of that, but the way they responded was pretty nice.

Sexton threw a reasonable "oop" to Thompson last night. Not quite as much air under it as you might want, but it did get to the right place at the right time. That was a step in the right direction.

Looks like he hit the rookie wall... Hope that after the all star break he'll start to show improvements again... Needs to be more efficient on offense, learn to run the team better and show effort on defense, if he doesn't I am afraid we have a smaller version of DWaiters....
