Really like Sexton's pull up jump shot. Was worried about his shooting but summer league and so far this pre season his jump shot looks pretty good and effective.

It's still early but I do like what I see from him. I'll admit that I was one of the ones on the board saying I didn't want to draft this kid. I quickly admitted my error of judgement during the summer league and continue to like him still today.

He has some work to do, but I absolutely love his work ethic and mentality. I think he's going to have a terrific rookie season and come up with some monster defensive plays to seal games for us. Kid is a world-class competitor.

I saw somewhere where he was interviewed and said he heard all the talk about his shot, so he worked on it relentlessly in the off season.

Not only is the work paying off, but to do that in your rookie offseason is insane work ethic. Most guys are exhausted by the draft time and take time to rehab between summer league and the regular season. But he is just such a crazy worker that he did not stop.

I dont know what his ceiling is, but I am DAMN confident he will make it.

Ps: his rebounding is sneaky good and will ultimately make him a better overall player than a lot of PGs we've had recently.

He is still adjusting to the game, but he is being effective in the meantime . Some nice passes and some good defensive possessions .

He needs reps and he will be cool. Kyle in the shot around video said he has been shooting it great in practice the whole time.

Good to hear. Kyle doesn't just say stuff

Anyone else notice that during preseason he has completely reworked his guide hand. Watch his catch and shoots and strong hand pull ups there is no left hand interference. In fact the pull up he missed early on was a classic over think shot where he was more worried about form than the the target. Thats much quicker than i expected him to address it as players get stuck in a belief of what 'works'. Just shows how humble and coachable the kid is. I also expect him to play a gear faster in the season i think now he is deliberately running into sets and not pushing the ball as fast as he can

He is so, so coachable. I just hope he is and will be coached right. The early stages are so crucial.

Kids been coached for 10+ years already.

Why do you think year 11 is more crucial than the others?

Because it is a different game and a different league. Good habits/bad habits are formed now along with his style of play. Shooting stroke, passing, pace... all of that. He is raw and it seems like he is willing to listen to everyone around him; something that isn’t that common with highly recruited prospects.

Well, it's a good thing the Cavs' head coach is a former point guard that was in the league for over a decade and won titles as both a player and coach, while playing with and coaching some of the greatest to ever play.

My guess is that his work habits and a willingness to listen were ingrained a while back. While it's true that some players change when they are given a million dollars ("Christian Eyenga") or taken away from their support system ("Sergey Karasev"), Sexton is still flying on Spirit Airlines, which makes me think he's less likely to fall for the seductive charms of a posh NBA life and is going to continue to be the same gritty guy that he's always been. If anything, I think starting the year on the bench is going to motivate the hell out of him. Fix that J !!

Through the preseason, really mixed bag so far. By far the biggest positive for me is his pick and roll passing, which is a lot further along than I was expecting. He's shown flashes of hesitating or working towards an angle to make the best pass and not always being go-go-go and hitting the roller if he's open. His catch and shoot J is much better than I thought (extremely small sample size) since it was a definite weakness in college.

His off the dribble shooting is about what I expected. Really comfortable going to it from his left hand.

By far the weakest part of his game: his dribble drive game, both driving and finishing, is going to need A LOT of work. It seems like he's even more reluctant to go right or use his right hand than he was in college, and he was already extremely left hand dominant then. Guards are going to shade him to his left hand and bigs are going to wait for the lefty layups and it'll be tough until he can make them respect the right hand.
