Columbus Blue Jackets thread

What's the rules in being a Jackets fan?

Kinda warming up to them more. I enjoy the NHL, have never had a team and the lone time I saw them? I had a good time. Plus geographic ties and all.

I'm not frontrunning/fairweathering I hope?

Even if you are, who cares? It's an Ohio team that is doing well, and getting people excited. There are worse things to cheer about.

Well, that's the thing, they don't have any true rivals. From 2000-2012 or so, it was Detroit, but it was more like envious and the Red Wings didn't really reciprocate the hate.

The closest the Jackets have to a rival right now is Pittsburgh. Maybe Washington, another playoff series would do that. The NHL playoffs is where rivals are made, not the regular season. Having won their first post season series, they haven't had much to brag about.

No rules, come onboard and enjoy.

So who would you guys want to face in the next round? I don’t really follow hockey at all, but I see that they’ll play the winner of the Boston/Toronto series.

For publicity, Toronto.

Neither team is really better than Tampa, who they just swept, so I'm not worried about talent. Boston would be extremely annoying.

I've been avoiding this thread bc ex lives in Tampa and I didn't wanna see us lose

Couldn't be happier w this result.

How much of a dog were we exactly

Tampa tied a record for most wins in the cap era. They had 3 40 goal scorers. Best goalie in the NHL.

The only upset bigger than this is the Miracle on Ice. Definitely the biggest upset in NHL History, considering the sweep.

Would you say this would be like the 73 win Warriors losing in the first round? Or not that drastic?

I would say it was maybe closer to the Dallas loss to the Warriors, but I would say that's probably not a stretch.

I also forgot to mention that Kucherov is going to win the Hart Trophy (MVP) too.

So what would you say happened in this series? Lightning not as good as their regular season would say? Blue Jackets better than their regular season ranking? Just a fluke?

I can't speak to the Lightning, but the Jackets are definitely better than their record. They made some big trades at the deadline and just didn't really gel until the very end of the season. That, and Bob (the goalie) seems to have got his mojo back...he was brutal at times this season, but has had a great career.

The sky is the limit at this point. Hockey is similar to baseball in that anything can happen once you're in the playoffs.

The Blue Jackets are probably the best 8th seed *talent wise* since the 2012 Kings.

The Jackets are just as talented as Tampa, but they simply had better focus, more determination, and were simply playing their best hockey.

Examples would be that the Jackets had an absurd 50% success rate on the Powerplay, and were extremely good against the Tampa Powerplay, which was one of the best ever this year.

Honestly, I think a large amount of credit goes to Torts. The gameplan has been out there on how to beat Tampa, and they executed to perfection. It's why he's a legendary coach.

Still can't believe we got him mid-season a few years back.

I hate to turn this into hockey talk thread because it clearly says Columbus Blue Jackets, but whatever. What are ya'lls thoughts / knowledge of the Canes? What do you hear about them up in Ohio?
