Conspiracy Theories / Wild Predictions

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The announced "Red Line" was never an effective strategy, once we allowed the Syrians to cross said red line. Nor was the "avoidance" strategy all that successful. Whistling in the dark and hoping the JV team would simply fold, or that ASSad would suddenly start respecting the lives of the governed was a demonstrable failure. Isis took over wide swaths of Iraq, the Russians gained a military foot hold in the region, and Assad reconstructed his power base, while our allies like the kurds and the Turks devolved into a self inflicted wound. This whole narrative about Obama's smart diplomacy is just a lot of crap. You cannot argue the planet is a safer place after his 8 years than it was before.

The cruise missle launch here was more analogous to Bill Clintons air war in Yugoslavia. It was the right response.

As for being all good with Syrian bombing of civilians as long as it is not chemical: I am not all good with that, but we, as a country are pretty divided on that point. There are both left elements that would be against further action because they are globalists, and right elements because they are isolationists. IMO Niether of these strategies are good for "Ordinary Americans" which is part of the fuel that got Agent Orange elected.

I think we have to stamp out the crazies who are intent on exporting their bullshit, before it becomes a conflagration. We are too late in Syria, because once the mass emigration occurred, the incoming populations were already weaponized. I think we (the free west) will reap that harvest for decades. But this opinion is not prevalent thinking in the US.

I don't understand what you mean by "otherwise meaningless". Other than...what?

It sent a message that we'll take out a few planes but their air base was operational within 24 hours so I doubt this is going to deter jack shit. We apparently didn't touch any stockpiles of chemical munitions either. So beyond being good PR for Trump what did this actually accomplish? A good case can be made that it was nothing more than $60 million worth of lip service.

That was the point. An actual red line when it came to the use of WMD's. That's something that's a part of treaties we've signed, that other nations have signed, and that's we've opposed publicly for decades. Considering that we're the only one really capable of bringing pressure to bear on outlaw states like NK and Iran when it comes to the potential use of WMD's, I don't think we could afford to keep ignoring it.
What we did was just a hair beyond "ignoring it. It was a for show only, and had minimal deterrence on stopping anything that Assad wants to do.

Tomahawks really can't take out an airstrip. The terminal flight pattern isn't conducing to cratering, and runway themselves are notoriously difficult to knock out period. Fixing even deep holes in an airfield is extremely easy -- dump in some gravel/fill, pour new asphalt over it, and you're good to go in less than 12 hours anyway. But we blew up some very expensive planes that will never fly again, damaged refueling and some control ability, etc.. They lost more than they gained with this strike. And the message we sent is that we are not predictable -- we will strike without seeking international or even national approval, so they cannot gage/predict our response ahead of time. That's the best kind of deterrence.
We gave notification that the strike was coming. There was nothing unpredictable about it. The case could be made that this is a Wag the Dog situation to allow Trump and Putin to distance themselves from accusations of collaboration during the election present themselves to the public as adversaries, all so they can "come together" to "resolve their differences" and "work together" in the future. This strike gives Trump plausible deniability and inoculation against the accusations of collusion. But again that would be going back to a conspiracy theory that I hope is false, trying to drown out my cynical side.

I'd confirm him as the source too, if I were them.

Well that's why it's posted in the conspiracy theory thread. Lol.

Obviously this is by no means evidence and advances a narrative that Assange wants.

Trump Confident U.S. Military Strike On Syria Wiped Out Russian Scandal

2160.jpg

WASHINGTON—After ordering the first U.S. military attack against the regime of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, President Donald Trump held a press conference Friday to express his full confidence that the airstrike had completely wiped out the lingering Russian scandal. “Based on intelligence we have received over the past several hours, the attack on the al-Shayrat air base in Homs has successfully eliminated all discussions and allegations about my administration’s ties to the Russian government,” said Trump, adding that at approximately 4:40 a.m. local time, 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from U.S. naval ships obliterated all traces of the widespread controversy in news outlets across the media. “Ordering this strike was not a decision I took lightly, but given that it was the only way to decisively eradicate any attention being paid to congressional investigations into possible collusion between key members of my staff and high-ranking Kremlin officials, I decided it was a necessary course of action. If we learn that any remnants of this scandal remain after this attack, I will not hesitate to order further strikes.” Trump went on to say that he is leaving the option open for a potential ground invasion of Syria if any troubling evidence emerges that the Russian government manipulated the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

Not really a conspiracy, but this Alex Jones deposition must have been fucking phenomenal.

In other news, of which it may or may not be a conspiracy against Papa Bear, it appears Bill O'Reilly will be fired from Fox News. Another hypocrite bites the dust. As awful as it sounds, I am actually surprised they fired him over sexual harassment. Fox News rarely gives a shit about how awful their anchors are on a personal level and the instinct to protect conservatives against any criticism is so pronounced that their viewership rarely voices displeasure.

I bet they wish they could get Megyn Kelley back.

I haven't done the reseqrch and i cant cite the study, but conspiracy theories will apparently shove a rocket up the ass of your shows ratings.

Couldn't tell if the host was referencing Joe Rogan or Infowars or both, but it seems legit.

If he was on the verge of shitting his pants in the most horrific way, as happens sometimes after a big bowl of chili, I could see it.

Attorney: Mr. Jones, when is your son's birthday?
Alex Jones: "Fuck if I know. Right now I'm about to drop a bucket of searing, red hot shit into my pleated jorts. How am I supposed to know when Slappy was born! I am a person; a real human man! I've got hot red blood in my veins and a colon being attacked by fiery chili spices. I am going to growl like a man as I wreck the nearest toilet bowl! Argghhhhhh!!!"
