So long, David Griffin

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Good thing we don't have emotional guys throwing errant behind-the-back passes in crucial moments...

Give me a guy who can put up 20+ points in a closeout game over a guy who can't see the court any day, but keep beating the "Griffin is impervious to scrutiny/criticism" drum.
I'll stick with the first guy who single handedly brought us back down 8 in game 7 on the road and shut Klays water off defensively.

Lance also got regularly torched defensively all series btw, in case you were wondering

The best part though was when you ignored the entire thing about Lance not signing a minimum deal anywhere and continue pretend like he was actually going to take 3.5 million less to play here at age 26.

Javel McGee sure would look good on this team and was completely obtainable.

While that may be true, he was a free agent. Which means he would have his pick. Entirely possible the Cavs did make inquiries, but he preferred Golden State.

I just want to know why you are so sure Lance was willing to take a minimum deal for the rest if the year when he signed for 4+million dollars a year? He took two ten days to get in shape/showcase himself. Then he took multiple weeks off until Indiana waived Stuckey to sign him after agreeing to a contract that seemingly came out of thin air(a contract that took more than a day to negotiate/put together).

My friend with the Knicks told me that they were rebuffed by Lance's people when they reached out about a minimum deal.

I don't think Lance was ever an option for more than a few ten days, we didn't have anymore than a couple hundred thousand to offer him.

This is the part that stumps me. He really WASN'T an option. Indy gave him multiple years and far more money than we could.

Can Lance see the court? Cross-eyed as fuck.

Can't help but notice Lance has shot less than 31% for his career from three. He had some success as a defender and driving to the hole, when he is in shape. Again, not what the Cavs need as a compliment to the other players.

The Cavs' defensive strategy was to leave him TOTALLY wide open to bait him into shooting threes, and he shot 39%.

Since when is this a JR vs. Lance thing? We wouldn't be bringing the guy in to slot as our starting 2-guard, would we? The fact is that you pointed to Lance's mercurial personality affecting his on-court play and I countered with a textbook JR example (but if you want to persist with this line, Stephenson had a far better series than JR.)

Lance's contract demands prior to signing with Indiana are unknown and entirely up to conjecture. Who's to say that he wouldn't have loved it here and signed for the minimum? Neither you nor I can comment on that with any degree of authority. Williams did, didn't he? And he's 25...

All I'm saying is that Lance was totally worth taking a flyer on since it would evidently require the entire team afflicted with chronic diarrhea for the guy we signed in his place to see the court.

For real, like we did not even pretend to guard him for an entire series for the most part and all you seem to read is people tooting their own horn like they were clairvoyant and that Lance could've helped the Cavs.

It also takes there offense out of rhythm when he shoots that much. Guys just start to stand around and bog down.

Not to mention every shot Lance shoots, particularly every three, is a shot that PG doesn't take... or a shot that better three point shooters take like Teague or Miles.

You could say the same thing about Shumpert on our team, lol.

Shump was driving me crazy at the start of the fourth today, fading sideways out of bounds for a corner three try with time on the clock. Good choice. Good plan.

I literally just heard the same thing from my friend with the Thunder. Like just now.

Is this bad? That's 1.17 points per possession. That's a good number.

I just don't recall anyone beating the drum to make McGee a target. All I ever recall anyone saying about him was that he was stupid, bad locker room guy, stay clear. Instead Griffin went after Anderson hoping he could give us something along the lines of RJ only in a big man.

When it comes to vet minimum signings you win some, you lose some. I always prefer taking the flyer on younger more athletic players but for whatever reason Griffin chose the older vet types, I assume because he doesn't want locker room problems. But Sanders was a departure from that as a last resort.

If Bogut didn't get hurt this would be a moot point.

Alright then. Just remember next time Griffin hits on a vet minimum player, it's all luck, and he gets no credit for it.

I don't have the numbers on the league average on open or wide open shots, so if someone points out that this is actually good, I'm open to changing my opinion. I would think that 38.5% on wide open threes isn't that good, but again, I'll admit I'm wrong if someone can prove I'm wrong.

I suppose you could argue that the correct strategy, even though they won, is to play Lance straight up. But generally speaking, a Lance off the dribble three is going to be preferable to Lance breaking down the D for a layup or drive and kick/drop off. They did give up a few catch and shoot threes to Lance, but I don't know what he shoots on those typically. Don't know that there was even a big enough sample size to determine if it was a good or bad strategy given his time away from the league.
