Demarcus Cousins: Refuses to be Barkley, Ewing and Malone

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Saw and I get what you're saying that but after that passage the article goes on to state

Since it says the Pels offered that 2 for $40 mil late in the season after his injury. I understand the take it or leave mindset that may have been present.

While the article might be posturing from the Pels I think the truth is going to be somewhere in the middle, I'm guessing they discussed something like 2 years for between $20-25 mil with no option but didn't offer before Cousins group starting shopping at lower price points on a 1 year deal in an effort to maximize his earnings over his playing career once he's healed.

I don't blame him for going to the Warriors they are the one team in the league that doesn't need to rush him back from the injury to get him on the court and he'll be able to ease his way back into form since he won't have to be a workhorse as soon as he comes back either. It was probably the best decision he could have made from a personal / career standpoint if he's confident that he'll return to at least 85% of what he was pre-injury

The fact that the Lakers turned down Cousins at $5.3M speaks volumes.

It suggests his medicals are just unreal.

That's a valid point but I also believe part of it had to do with teams not wanting to take him on a 1 year because a lot of them wouldn't have the space to re-sign him the following year and didn't want to lose him after assisting with his rehab then integrating him if he heals well only for him to leave.

GS doesn't really need him to win so it doesn't matter if he goes back there or not it probably also doesn't matter to them if he heals or not. They were in the best position to gamble on 1 year of him if what he really wanted was a 1 year deal to get healthy then hit FA again, even if only comes back at 75-80% of what he was he's still a top 5-10 center in the league (huge gamble by him).

On a side note regarding the Pelicans / AD did you know a team like Boston can't trade for AD until Kyrie signs a new extension unless they were to also trade Kyrie in the same trade because of the Rose rule ? They are both on the same contract under the Rose rule and a team can only add 1 player on a contract like that through a trade if I'm reading the rule correctly (talking about Cousins just reminded me of this so sorry for off topic part)

It may be the combo of bad attitude and horrific injury.

The Lakers are not usually shy about bad attitudes, though. So we will see. My guess is most teams think he is done for.

And for now, what other team could absorb an injured all star and still be more than fine. And for only $5mm. If he needs more time, they can give it to him. If it doesn’t work out, they still have 4 all stars in their starting 5.

I feel like the warriors will somehow be able to resign this entire starting unit next season and get some other players to join them that will come out of left field to make things even less competitive.
Like kwahai is gonna sign for the vet min and take Iggy's spot as 6th man

After Jerebko's signing today, they wont have any space for more players next year.

GSW won’t be able to afford these guys next year if Boogie proves healthy they probably only pay him plus steph/Durant.

Step/Durant are 70mill per year alone I don’t see Cousins taking a cut so he’d be at 25-30 per

Boston 3 were all in there 30s heat 3 were in there prime

Yeah, but James would have had rings in his first Cleveland stint if not for those guys. He teamed up to beat them like Durant and Curry did to beat him

They don't have Boogie's bird rights, no way he re-signs with them unless he is a shell of himself and the MLE is a good deal for what he has left. If he can get 20M next year, he won't get it from GS

Good I didn’t know they didn’t have his bird rights.

Which brings me back to my first point. The media forgiving Lebron after he won with his stacked team paved the way for this super team bull shit

I think (I could be wrong) that a team gets bird rights after 3 years (the point of the rule being able to keep long term players)
