Diet and Workout Routines

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ok this thread almost dropped off of the damn page guys... and gals... and others....

Life got flipped upside down with my third child, and I think my routine has gotten better now that I'm back. For the first time ever, I work out at night. That's the only place that my schedule permits, and it's much more sustainable. Plus, I have some calories in me from dinner now. So basically I go no-carb around the clock until dinner, and those carbs, which aren't many, get zapped during my gym session.

I work out from like 9:30 to 11, sleep by 12, get up at 7ish. Much better for the family and I think this'll really help me with my losses and gainz. It's been too short of a time to assess. So far so good tho.

Started working out again this week, got my GF lifting with me now. We're trying to be more active during the week so we're adding in some yoga 2-3 days a week as well.

I don't know how you do it. If I worked out from 9:30-11, I would be wired until 3am. Of course, you are tired right after, but after a shower and getting something in your stomach, no way. I would much prefer to workout at night, but even my work gym is too crowded and I am not signing up for an outside gym. Waste of money when I have a perfect one for free at work and apartment complex.

I lifted for the previous 2 months. I pulled a muscle right above my right ass cheek doing a squat and was a dumb shit and was looking down struggling to get up and felt it. Somehow I finished it but couldn't even do an air squat after that. Hardly could stand up :chuckle: So I stopped legs about 3 weeks ago and only lifted upper.

It is fully "healed" and I am now in another round of Insanity to get as tight as possible before a bachelor party in May. I forgot how much of a bitch this is. I am in good shape and Jesus, when you take time off of doing Plyo work, you pay for it.

:gfight:

Totally kidding. Yoga is a bitch lol. I don't do it, but in my recovery days on this 2nd round of Insanity, those yoga poses freakin' get me!

Yoga is definitely hard, it's not as hard as pushing yourself in the weight room (IMO) but I think it challenges you to use muscles you may be missing or don't work often with weights.

and balance. When doing some of those moves, I actually have to stare at one spot in the room or I will tip over

I don't use pre-workout anymore. Just the BCAA (12:1:1 Leucine loaded) and creatine HCL. The gym is NOT crowded from 9:30-11 where I live because it's the burbs. I bet in a city or college town that's way different. As far as going to sleep, I think the body adjusts as long as you are (actively?) trying to fall asleep. None of this Netflix and chill nonsense. You gotta get home, hit the protein shake, shower, hit the food, then brush the teeth and go read in bed. It sounds weird but it takes discipline. I am also exhausted often because of the newborn, so by the time my body lays down, it's pretty much all over.

Really the best part is that my diet is on point right now (Monday thru end of work Friday at least). Last weekend I ate like I had a tapeworm, and all kinds of shitty foods too, and lots of beer. Something has to give because there's nothing wrong with a fat day or taking it easier on the weekend, but come on now. Don't take pi steps forward and 3 steps back.
Sorry you got hurt bro. I really still feel somewhere in my back from when I did the deadlift wrong. Now I use the smith machine and don't go for crazy weight on DL. I got mad respect for you doing Insanity. If I wasn't in such a damn good rhythm, I'd try something like that.

NOW, for Dagger's Macro Food Review: This is on Tropical Fields' Crispy Broccoli Florets. This was an impulse buy at Costco. Macros are good for what I am looking for: fat 7g Net carbs 4g, protein 4g, and 4g of that fiber uppercut. This is essentially a potato chip alternative. When you need salty and crunchy, this is good. I suspect these might not be as good if I wasn't always hungry, but for me, it's up there with the dried seaweed for my cravings. Kinda high in fat, but so are mixed nuts. Sometimes you just need a pop of energy, and this is that. The oil in here is palm oil, which isn't great, but until I find better, these are staying at the office as a snack. 7/10.

Weighing myself daily for the last two months has shown me that every cheat day takes about 3 days of strict diet and exercise to balance out... I can't seem to get lower than 186 (started at 194), so I gotta be more strict with my calorie counting on the weekends. Even when I think I'm not going too hard on the snacks, the scale never lies so I know that personally, I gotta work harder at the eating discipline. Nothing is worse than going hard 5 days a week and having nothing to show for it lol

How epic are your cheat meals?

My cheat day is still a healthy breakfast. Worst case is like a bacon, egg & cheese biscuit from McD's. Then either lunch or dinner is a bigger meal. And that means Chipotle, Canes, a medium pizza to myself, etc..But if I do the pizza thing, it is generally for lunch and I don't eat the rest of the day.

Nothing too crazy, I skip breakfast as usual but by the end of the night the snacks just add up big time is what I think the issue is...Kinda like looking down and the whole bag of pretzels is gone lol

Started going to the gym M-F with cardio and abs on T/Th so counter act my over eating ways lol and to speed this cutting shit up!

Screw my "diet" this is being consumed heavily sometime this week:

This last weekend I toned down my cheat day(s) and honestly I didn't feel like I missed out. Then on Monday the routine begins again and it's not a big deal.

I have about the same weight as you and it comes off so slowly. I think I am gaining muscle as well, so I tell myself I don't care, but I do lol. I think we should just get body composition tests every 3 months instead.

My cheat meals typically evolve into cheat evenings where i find myself eating so much ice cream that my stomach still hurts the next day. I am literally full for almost the entire next day.

I am giving up cheat "meals" for lent.

Bro this was me for soooo long omg I totally feel you. For me it was tater tots and pizza rolls..I could eat a family sized bag of each by myself lol I have it under control (mostly) now, but only after a dozen stomach aches lol

It sucks when you have a big appetite. I'm about 220 right now at 19% body fat.

I'd like to be 200 but that's in the 11% body fat range. Which seems unrealistic for my lifestyle. I got some bitch tits that need to go, but I swear that's the last fat to leave my body.

Intervals! blast the fat away. As I have said before, I am not up on the "fasting" type diets, but I heard they work. But I will never do that. I can not-not eat for that long. I would die.

Just keep up with it, the bitchy areas are the last to go always (man boobs, lower stomach, obliques, etc.)

I didn't want to lose weight during Insanity (I know, seems dumb saying it) but just tone the muscles as much as possible in the 2 months. I am a runner, so I don't want to bulk up like crazy. As I have said before, I am usually a lift heavy for 6ish weeks, then something like Insanity afterwards. I have lost about 3lbs so far, a week & a half into it.

Started: 6'4, 184lbs
Now: 6'4(no shit), 181lbs

But I can definitely tell my shoulders, upper abs, tri's, chest, are slightly more toned only this much into it. But my diet has been on absolute point the past couple of weeks. An occasional slip up (cheat meal, not day), but I have been sticking to basically all eggs, ground turkey (90/10), chicken, tuna, any veggie you can think of, some fruit, quinoa, sweet potatoes, salads w/no dressing (I use balsamic vinegar).

But that dill pickle dip will be entering me and coming out of me sometime this week. No questions asked.
