Diet and Workout Routines

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
WTF guys. Thread almost fell off the 1st page. I got roped into doing a 1/2 marathon in the Spring, and I need a swift kick in the nuts, so wtf I am in.

I jumped on the treadmill at my parents' house - 11.1 miles at 10 min mile pace. Not bad. I hurt the next morning tho.

I really want to break 2 hours. That's a suitable goal: it's like a 6.6MPH pace so 9:04 miles. Yesterday I did an hour at 6.5 and it was fine. I just ran out of time...

I haven't been doing much of anything, so I will def get a little faster as I lose a little weight. Also going to lift a bit, and hopefully do some HIIT.

I hope you donkeys are staying fit, whether getting GAINZ or holding L's.

I got fat AF over the holidays. Visited my girlfriend's grandparents in Florida for five days and gained an additional six pounds putting me up to about 210 to close out the year. The heaviest I ever was was 215 and that was when I was on a pretty hefty weightlifting regimen. The only thing i've been lifting lately is the remote. I am a true hibernation weight gainer.

Trying to snap my body back into gear with Insanity workouts and intermittent fasting, while cutting sugar and carbs quite a bit. The gf is also going on an alcohol cleanse through January and I may join her. I've never done any sort of cleanse but have always heard they're great for your body and how awesome all my hipster friends feel after they've completed them. The only problem is that whiskey makes me happy and winter makes me sad.

Doing Jim Stoppani New Years workout for 6 weeks then starting my CLE marathon training.

Anyone else like to run outside in these crazy super cold negative windchill temperatures?

Somebody else tell me you enjoy this so I don’t feel like a fucknut. My body just feels awesome in it. Run much faster, joints don’t hurt...just gotta dress right, including a balaclava over your face and all skin double covered. Quick runs.

@natedagg ...are you running on the tread only or will you do outside for any of your runs right now? You’re really early for long runs if you’re doing a half but if you’ve done one you know what you’re doing. If you’re already at 10 miles just do a full. :chuckle:

Good for you btw. Sub- 2:00 is a great time.

There's been some evidence that extremely cold Tempsford release a cocktail of neurostimulants that improve mood. It's being trialled as anti depressants regime near me with fresh water swimming. So you might be onto something

It has to be true and it does feel incredible. I’ve run in every climate, altitude and most distances and nothing feels the same.

The colder the weather is, the harder your body has to work to keep you moving while you exercise. It would seem to me that this would lead to consistent adrenaline rushes, which feel good. My science may be off here?

My times are much faster too because I need to get my ass back inside to avoid frostbite which also adds to the excitement.

I feel significantly different when I run in cold weather than I do in regular temperatures.

I’m not talking about 20 degrees by the way. I’m talking about -20 windchill where you’re at risk of frostbite after 20 minutes. But seriously bundled with a mask on.

I’ve been telling people about this for years and getting horrible feedback because people think I’m an idiot just for being outside at all, literally to the point where I’ve stopped telling most people that I do it. But you can’t knock something until you try it...or at least read up on it and see it’s fine if you do it right (bundle). I can’t get anybody to go with me, and I don’t take my dog below about 10 degrees.

Did an 8 mile trail run at Virginia Kendall the other day - loved it!

All in for the Half Ironman training.

I’ve been getting in the pool 3 days a week and rotating bike/run 3 days as well. I think the bike will be the toughest discipline- riding 52 miles takes a long damn time and it’s pretty hard to train, especially this time of year.

Just thought i'd provide an update on my alcohol cleanse. To bring up to speed, i've essentially been booze free since January 1st with the exception of a handful of beers consumed one night due to the current shit show the Cavs have been lately. I've also cut back considerably on the mary jane consumption as I am looking for a new job. Keep in mind, my schedule has gotten busier so I have been pretty awful at getting to the gym still but somehow when i looked at the scale today, I was down 15 pounds in 19 days, which i thought was remarkable.

I'm not even a heavy drinker typically - Usually one binge drinking night on the weekends with casual drinks with dinner (1-2) maybe once a week. I have also made a point to meal prep dinners - baked chicken and vegetables with a little instant rice (~700 calories max) and keeping my cal intake during the day under 500 with some post-dinner snacking on occasion (pita chips / hummus, popcorn, cashews)

I think cutting back on weed has probably helped just a much (no trips to munchie town) as limiting my alcohol intake but this is the first time i've ever lost substantial weight in a short time without an intense weekly cardio regimen. Come to think of it, I don't think i've ever dropped 15 pounds in a month while cutting and working out.

Is this just fools gold momentarily? - I know that a lot of the initial pounds that were shed were water weight but i'm still dropped ~3 lbs this week. Once it plateaus, I will likely start to work more cardio in.

Man, I need to do something.

Been 4 years since I was laid up in the hospital for two months. 4 fucking years, and I never got back into the shape I was in pre-injury. I'm diabetic now as a result of my injuries back then, which means being healthy is even more important. I'd like to live a long life, and still being young (I'm 28) I feel like I need to act now and make the lifestyle changes I need to in order to fulfill that. I just keep sitting on the fringe, going to the gym religiously for a couple weeks, lifting here and there, half-assing workouts, then falling back into shit eating habits and making excuses as to why I can't go to the gym that night. It sucks.

Really miss being in college and having a workout buddy, living right next to a bitchin' ass gym setup (RPAC at Ohio State) and being held accountable by a gym buddy. The truth is I'm not a lost cause, I'm not obese or a total waste of skin fatbody at the moment. I weigh in at about 189-191, am a shade under 6'0, but let's be real I'm nowhere near where I want to be in terms of the strength and conditioning that I had 4 years ago when I was trying for Marine OCS.

So you know what, it's time to hit the grind once more. Time to do it for real. Clean eating. Little to no cheating. Lift/cardio 3-5 times a week (work my way back up to where I was). Won't be an easy journey, especially in the lifting, as I'm starting almost from nothing (benching like, 8 reps of 135 at the moment- pathetic). But I'll get there if I just keep at it. Done it before, can do it again. Extra motivation, not just looking good but my A1C was kind of shit last time I saw my endo, previously it had been a 6.0, so I'm determined to get back there as well which is the most important thing.

Why am I posting this, when nobody really cares? Good question. Just felt like making the statement out loud instead of just telling it to myself in my head. Helps motivate me. Off we go.

You won't plateau. 2 lbs a week is a good goal.

I care. When people start too hard they burn out. Start slowly. Run twice and lift a couple times a week until you get really motivated which will happen naturally. You have to really find motivation to stick with it, like an actual goal. A real one that you feel. "I going to make a resolution to work out all the time" isn't going to work.

Then work on a habit loop to make sure you go consistently.. Find a trigger, make going to the gym your routine, and your reward will be feeling better looking better and getting closer to your goal. Work on small wins like adding to your lifts or making your Cardio lengthier. Good motivation. Write down everything you eat and you'll notice it more. Weigh yourself everyday in the morning and write it down. Trust me on that. Putting in work at the gym will make you hesitant on eating it away.

Youre not going to start off in the zone immediately, it takes a few weeks for it to all smooth out and become easy

You will be much much more successful if you plan ahead for times and days wherein you just don't feel it. The most successful people are the ones that know this will happen and are ready for it. Make a plan for these days, write out how it will feel and write out what you will do to get into your routine.

You'd be surprised, bro... I haven't posted in here in years, but, reading your post made me write this one.

I'm sure you'll get it together bro... there's lots of good knowledge here in this thread and a few of the users here are diabetic as well, and they can help you with fitness I'm sure.

If you're not already, start keeping a log of where you are, what your immediate goals are, and track weekly progress.. It helps..
