Dion Waiters

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm sure Players Tribune does some editing to spice things up. It'd be naive not to think that.

From the site....

Welcome to The Players’ Tribune, a new media company that provides athletes with a platform to connect directly with their fans, in their own words. Founded by Derek Jeter, The Players’ Tribune publishes first-person stories from athletes, providing unique insight into the daily sports conversation. Through impactful and powerful long- and short-form stories, video series and podcasts, The Players’ Tribune brings fans closer than ever to the games they love.

That article was great. I'll always pull for Dion. May not have worked in Cleveland, for reasons that were both in and out of his control, but the guy does play his ass off.

Statistically this last year looks pretty similar to his second year in Cleveland. Was he better in any way?

Probably most notably his three point shooting. He shot 40% on 5 attempts this year. His previous career high for % was his sophomore year when he shot 37% on 4 attempts per game.

& In regards to people questioning the writing, I don't think players actually "write" the articles in the Players' Tribune. I think the players just articulate their thoughts & a ghostwriter figures out how to best capture it and tell the story of the player.

Could be wrong but I think that makes the most sense. Similarly to LeBron's letter when he came back...those were no doubt his thoughts but I don't think that he physically wrote that piece.

Cool article, but are we supposed to believe that he wrote that? Maybe he gave them the general idea but there is no double negative in this shit so i'm 100% skeptical.

The usual approach for ghost writing is to interview the person and then the writer tries to do a cleaned up piece that still captures the 'author's' voice/words as much as possible, using quotes but rearranging them, making them grammatical, etc. I am like 98% sure that is what was done here and is generally done in Player's Tribune articles.

Almost all Player's Tribune articles share a similar style -- short punchy declarative sentences, one-sentence paragraphs at times, etc. It's an effective style that still allows for variation based on the athlete's personal voice. There's definitely some of Dion coming across here, but the writing is just too good. I used to teach and when you read college essays you realize most people are crappy writers.

[edited to add -- hadn't looked at Cashius X comment above me but basically saying the same thing as him]

I actually know one of the writers who works for the Players Tribune. Sorry to burst your bubble but most of these articles are indeed heavily ghostwritten.

For the most part these players just articulate what they want to talk about as part of a 2-3 hour conversation and then someone goes off and professionally writes it. There’s a reason all these articles have a similar writing style.

EDIT: Just realized the previous two comments said the exact same thing as me :chuckle:

who.. had 29 or more points against both Cleveland and golden state leading his team to wins.
Who is 25 and finally getting his shit together?
WHo has played both with Lebron and Kevin Durant..
who wont think when lebrons goes off the floor wont think "omg" what do we do without Lebron" but instead will think "hot shit Lebron is OFF the court , Ball HARD!"
Who is always naturally aggressive and ready to roll
who can be had for a reasonable contract?
who can have a winning record as a starter with Hassan Whiteside and Gordan Dragic.

Need a Ball Distirbutor?
Need someone who has beat the warriors guarding Kevin Durant?
Need someone who plays on both sides of the ball?

Dion Waiters. its time to bring him back home.

How do we get him though. He's surely worth more than the minimum, right?
