Draft Day!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Best player available.

Mac, you are thinking short term. You've said before how if the Browns would have just gone out and spent this year, they could be in the playoffs. Which may be true with the right additions, but it would really hinder any future movement with the salary cap. You are looking at it from the same perspective on the draft of what holes need filled THIS year.

Savage/Crennel are looking at it as what holes don't need filled in the next three years. Instead of drafting for need and reaching a few picks on a lineman, they stuck to their board, which I would assume was weighted somewhat for need, and took the best player on that board. Maybe in a year or two when the team is ready for that next step you can look at the draft and say that OT was a hole, so we must draft an OT to fill for the next season. Right now, we just need players who are willing to give their all and play football.

Couple things..

Fundamentals, you are wrong...he didnt get arrested for marijuana at his house. He was never charged with that because, although it was his house, the wife was going to take the rap for that and it was a small amount so they didnt even press charges.

What put him in the second stage was his DUI for drinking alcohol, he did have weed on him, but again, it was such a small amount that he wasnt charged with it.

He hasnt been in trouble for weed since college..

I understand the rebuild process, but I didnt think we had to goto a complete rebuild.

I didnt really say that we should go out to get FAs with playoffs on our mind, my thinking was more towards getting players that wouldnt have us wait for ten years.

Shuan Alexander would have been great, but I understand money wise, we just cant tie that up right now.

Ive been through the expansion process once, and a lot of fans, esp ones like me who pay for tickets year in and year out, are feeling slighted for having to go through the whole losing for two/three years process all over again.

I mean its pathetic that the Texans are further ahead than we are...

I trust Savage, I hope things turn around. It's frustrated that we have to go through this losing crap for two more years though.

i just dont think we are as far off as people think.

i surely hope savage and crennel go after a lineman when june 1 comes around. besides that i dont think we have that many holes. the players are young so they will need time but for the most part we are settled.

the line dosent look that bad on both sides of the ball. maybe the guys we have now will gell and turn into a really good line. i cant name anyone on the broncos line, havent they been together for a while???

the backers dont have to be great. we went over this with respect to the pats and what the winning did for their players national attention. yet i dont think that they are very stong. so that and the safetys are our biggest concern.

mac look at what the titans went through. getting a lot of big names is only good for a couple of years.

oh we still have alot of holes....

we do have a few things though. we have a new face to our franchise in edwards to go along with winslow..

we have a slew of quality backs on our backfield, even green, he is the bigger and more bruiser of the bunch and i think that he will be here for awhile. he has made great strides since getting into trouble and now believe he has the right people around him..

we have a qb in grooming in frye.. dilfer will will do him well in showing him the ropes...

we have quality managment for the first time since the expansion. the greatest blessing.

we have huge holes though on both lines. we have no depth on the lines and defense exspecially... this team, as frustrating its seems, is a couple years off from doing well. i still think that we will compete, but not all holes were filled in this draft. this draft was long term.

this team though, even if they struggle, will be the team i will root for the most sinse the expansion. crennel and savidge have created a "winner" attitude with this bunch and that attitude will win games by its self this year. it will also spread into the fans and win or lose you believe that this team will continue to get better not just now but in the future...

thing is about pool he was projected first round but because of a bad bowl game his stock dropped.if one game will do that then i look at it as a steal.as for edwards it was a good pick so if u dont think so then i dont know what ur thinking.he was the best talent in the draft.last time i checked savage said its not going to be about needs,he is going to take the best player available. He was the best player available and will prove the haters wrong.I think we got perkins for a reason...do u think cutt is gone?not sure what will happen there.

Best Player Available!!!

You wanna go BPA because if u draft by need, then you are FORCED. And sometimes that becomes a reach player. For example, if we went any other way, we would have to draft on need. And we need a OT. But there were no OTs worth the #3 pick overall. And we could NOT trade.

When Baltimore drafted all those All-Pros, they had no need for them when they were drafted. But they drafted them anyways, and kept improving the team.

i know we have holes but having holes at depth is a lot better than having holes for starters.

im not saying that we are a top notch team, i think we have enough players to compete with almost everyone.

So he doesn't have a marijuana problem, when he had it in college and you just gave two examples of him having it since we drafted him? Like I said, I hope he turns it around, I just don't see it happening in Cleveland.

We should have a very effective passing year.

We got Trent Dilfer who is a ok quarterback but with some expeince.
Then Kellen Winslow at the TE.
Braylon Edwars, Andre Davis and Dennis Northcutt being are 3 main Wide Recievers.

Well there are plenty of people who love last years draft. We will see how we view those posts ten years from now.

Pretty much every optimistic post in the Browns section ends up regrettable. Fortunately I've been a total downer in the past decade outside of the glorious Brian Hoyer Era. Hope to change that soon!
