ESPN 30 for 30 ("Believeland" 3/31 at CLE Film Festival, ESPN airing 5/14 9:30 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm kind of glad he did. I didn't think it was well put together at all.

I actually agree. We all knew the topic, i think it could have been presented much better. Not even a top 10 "30 for 20"

Still think the Bo Jackson one is number 1.

Not sure how you wanted them to present it.

The Bo one is good, but I liked the Fab 5 one best. Jalen Rose is fucking gold in that.

From what I'm gathering, skip it?
I had wished it focused more on fans.

It was basically a nice way of replaying all our past teams failures with radio guy commentary.

I will say that it is impossible to accurately depict the city's sports history in ~90 minutes.

It was terrible.

It didn't touch on any of the Cleveland success stories. They barely mentioned the Cavs' numerous successes outside of the scope of LeBron's decision to leave the franchise.

Drafting Irving and Wiggins, or making the Love trade -- none of that was discussed.

The Mesa fiasco was covered completely, but not the amazing seasons that led up to it.

It was awful.

Sounds like a bunch of horseshit. I'll pass

but Tony Grossi loved it :(

I refuse to watch it. I think the Believeland concept was ridiculous to begin with, and I don't want to see our championship lumped in with all the "woe is me, only in Cleveland" bullshit.

I'll wait for a real 30 for 30 covering our championship.

The guy who wrote the documentary, who is also being interviewed; completely missed the point, IMHO.

He could have talked a lot more about Cleveland as a city, it's ups and downs, and not solely focused on the individual tragedies in sequence.

I thought that was extremely lazy.
In a documentary named "Believeland", which was supposed to be about Cleveland fans and what they've had to go through in regards to not winning a championship in 50+ years, they had no business running Modell's side at all.

They could have mentioned the Ferry/Harper trade (which was pretty significant towards us not putting up a better fight against Jordan); or even how good those teams were. People underestimate those Price/Nance/Daugherty teams, they were legit one of the best teams in the league. Yet, all they got was in regards to The Shot.

As a Clevelander, I understand why you feel that way but I don't think the concept was "ridiculous" at all. I completely understand why they made the film the way they did. A tri-sport city that's gone 50+ years without a championship is a compelling story nationally, and they make 30 for 30s based on what the American public has interest in.

What would be the point of including "Cleveland success stories"? It directly conflicts with the narrative they're trying to tell. That has zero interest to the viewing audience outside of Cleveland. In my opinion the movie's thesis was "All these terrible things happened to these teams, but these fans remain loyal and die-hard." The end result could have been better, but overall the doc largely succeeded in executing that purpose.

People have to accept that this documentary wasn't made for us...we already knew everything about these stories inside and out, and most of us lived it. It was made for the general public that didn't know the details about these events. This doc isn't and wasn't ever intended to be "A complete history of Cleveland sports since 1964".

My main beef was with the asshole's kid getting so much time to defend his dad's move. He had no business being in this thing, period.

As far as the rest, I get what the point was, but they left out significant details as far as not being able to beat those teams. They did a decent job with the Browns, but the Harper/Ferry trade was significant in terms of not beating Jordan and leaving the fans scratching their heads. They also could have built up just how good those Cavs teams were in order to magnify Cleveland fans' shock & dismay that they lost.

Spoiler alert, I think we win this time.

I was incredibly disappointed with the new ending. Seems like they just clumped all of it into the last five minutes without building up the plotline.. They completely took out losing to the Warriors the first time as well?
