Fantasy Basketball Thread!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
There are 10 teams in my league. You don't think Nash could put up numbers with an increased role due to Kobe's injury?

DONT GET NASH!!!

He's not even expected to play on the second night of back-to-backs. If anything get him towards the end of the draft or get him off waivers...he went undrafted in my 12 man league

Can someone please help me out? I know NBA basketball well, but I have never played fantasy before and I'm a little confused. I drafted this team in my Yahoo league and I don't understand how the Bench and Utility positions work in fantasy basketball, also not sure how to make sure my starters are starters. Here is my team.

PG - R. Westbrook
SG - K. Thompson
SF - L. James
PF - Tristan Thompson
C - D. Howard
G - A. Iguodala
F - A. Varejao
Util - S. Nash
Util - V. Oladipo
BN - J. Jack
BN - B. Mclemore
BN - Jamal Crawford
BN - O. Asik
BN - O. Porter Jr

I want to start Nash or Oladipo in place of Westbrook, right now they have Crawford automatically replacing Nash and I can't figure out how to start Nash instead. I also want to know what Util players are, does that mean that can play any position, because right now my Util players are Nash and Dipo and I would never use them as anything other than guard.

Bench Russell until he comes back from injury. I'd start Jarrett or Jamal in his place for now. Probably Jarrett

thinking about trading Eric Gordon for JJ Redick.. any thoughts??

Really depends on how much you trust Gordon to stay healthy, along with your team's depth at the two. If he's healthy he's just better than Redick. But can you rely on him to stay healthy? The problem is, if he stays healthy, he's an elite two-guard who really puts up numbers. If you trade him for Redick and he stays reasonably healthy, you got ripped off. What's your depth like at the two? Who else do you have?

I have him in my pay league, but I'm also pretty loaded at the two-guard. I have Stephen Curry (listed as a PG/SG on Yahoo), James Harden (listed as a SG/SF), Bradley Beal, Victor Oladipo, and Eric Gordon.

If your depth is similar to mine, I'd hold on to Gordon for now and see if you can't bring in a better haul for him in a month or so. Right now his value is low because he missed pretty much all of last season. If he plays great basketball for a month, that will change.

Redick gets you 3s..... Eric Gordon is stuck in a quagmire of sg on the pelicans. I think I would do it if you need 3s

Gordon gets you threes too, and is shooting a significantly higher percentage from three right now than Redick is.

thanks for the advice! i agree Gordon is the better player.. just thinking of how solid Redick can be on this LAC team with CP getting him looks + also wondering how many mins he'll loose to Crawford.. (first time doing this so learning as i go) here is my team:

Looks like what you need more than anything is another big man. You've got two guys listed as pure centers, one guy as a pure power forward, and one combo forward. You've also got six guys listed as two-guards (or guard-forwards) and four point guards. You should definitely be looking to swap for a big rather than another guard, and preferably a F/C combo big if you can find a good trade.

cool thanks! would you trade igy for ibaka?

Based on how Iggy is playing so far this season? No way. He's a great fantasy commodity because he fills the box score. He's averaging great numbers for a G/F in points, assists, rebounds, and steals, and he's doing it shooting a nice FG percentage. His free throws are a disaster right now, but he's only shooting three of them a game so it's not really a deal breaker.

Ibaka, on the other hand, really only gives you rebounds and blocks, and his block numbers thus far this year have been disappointing.

When you break it down, fantasy basketball is really about finding the guys who contribute significantly to the largest amount of categories. Iguodala gives points, assists, rebounds, steals, threes, and FG/3P percentages. Ibaka (assuming he gets back to where he's been in the past) gives you points, rebounds, blocks, and FG percentage. To me, it's an easy choice to go with Iggy based on the above.

I disagree, Ibaka has a rare category that is he one of the best in the league at he will turn it around. Iggy is a sell high candidate at the moment.

I just don't think adding Ibaka will make his team compete week in, week out in the blocks category. I also think Iggy's value will be higher than in previous years in Golden State because he's playing on a stacked roster for the first time in his life. He's going to rack up assists with his passing, he's going to rebound because he's an incredible athlete, and he's going to get you elite steal numbers (another rare category). His three point percentage will undoubtedly come back down to Earth eventually, but he's still going to benefit from more open looks than he ever did in Philly, which means he'll probably shoot a career high from three.

He has never in his career been a good 3 point shooter. He already has carmelo on his team so he does not need a sf (I personally hate melo but he is a good one) The biggest weakness is sg. The rare category would sell it for me on Ibaka. He does have Dwight so the need is really not there and that would be the reason I might keep Iggy

He's been a decent three point shooter his entire career. His career percentage is 33, which is far from bad. If he can increase that to 35% or better, which I think he will with Curry and Thompson on the floor with him, he's suddenly a good three point shooter. Plus, getting four or more assists from a G/F, plus the two steals, is a huge asset, especially given how solid his point guard crop is.
