I could be totally wrong on this, but due to acquiring Burks a trade just popped in my head that makes sense for both teams.

Washington needs to do something going forward, and Otto Porter’s contract will handcuff a lot of their possible future moves.

How about:

CAVS get: Otto Porter, WASH 2019 #1 pick

WASH gets: Alek Burks, JR Smith

Why for CAVS: Obviously the 1st round pick is the deal maker. Porter is young enough to still have an impact and Cavs have enough salary space going forward to pay him. By the time his contract expires after the 2021 season, hopefully the Cavs are in contention and not resign him + use the $28m cap space towards another great player to help contend.

Why for WASH: Alek Burks is an expiring and JR is only guaranteed $3.8 next year. Washington goes from having $27 million committed next year (plus what they paid their 1st round pick) to only paying $3.8 towards the cap. That’s absolutely crucial if they want to pursue a big name free agent like Cousins (Wall’s college teammate) or perhaps an even longer shot — Kevin Durant, a DC native.

Who says no?

I know this probably belongs in the trade forum, but since the Korver trade would have huge implications on this then I posted it here.

Washington’s GM likely hangs up at “ill trade you JR and Burks”.......not even sure he gets to hear he’d also be getting draft asset raped as well.

Or, he can continue to over pay and be one of the worst teams in the league.

The trade clearly isn’t for JR and Burks “talent,” it’s about potential leverage to actually have a chance at restructuring their horrific roster in the offseason.

Their cap is fucked anyway. They can’t multiply their mistakes and send assets out to dump money.

Wall’s contract kicking in is the true killer. Porter is a drop in the ocean at this point.

Wizards are going to have $80+ mil tied up in just Wall, Beal and Mahimni next year. Their best course of action is likely to trade Beal for a nice package of draft assets and then ride out Porter’s contract.

Pretty much a 4-5 year rebuild no matter what. No sense in making it longer by giving away assets to get off of money mistakes.

Some teams I think should fully blow it up, some teams I think should take a few gambles that will allow them an opportunity to potentially contend without fully blowing it up.

Washington is one of those teams.

They currently have then 8th worst record, let’s assume they end up with the 8th pick. What exactly does that do for their future? Nothing.

Say they have $80 million tied up next year in those 3. Yes, that’s bad. But also leaves you $29 million on the table. With the contract Cousins just accepted to play at GSW, we saw the market wasn’t exactly drooling over him. Cousins-Wall-Beal is still young enough and definitely talented enough to make noise in the East (but also need a real coach not named Scott Brooks)

I also don’t think this is the only “possibility” we have moving forward to acquire an additional 1st round pick this year...... but after watching Washington under perform the majority of nights I can’t help but think something major is about to happen with them.

I'd like Otto as the SF and Cedi as SG going forward. That is a legit nice 1-3 defensively if Collin can be competent.

I guess who we draft matters in that regard, but I think Otto is better than he looks. I think he is a #3 on Different team.

People are going to say we need a #1, of course we do, but we are gonna have to draft that guy, so it's very luck based.

Will Burks just get Korver’s minutes? And is he just an even poorer man’s Rodney Hood?

No Burks thread so I'll ask it here.... How much similar is he to Paul Pierece?
