Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
NBA predictions: Heat-Lakers finals and Magic win the lottery.

This is unreal. If the rumors about the Cavs and Houston offers were even remotely true, Hennigan passed on two far superior offers for this mess. Hell, trading Howard straight up for that Toronto pick that Houson owns than this garbage.

I heard the problem was that we weren't willing to part with JJ Hickson.

Couple thoughts on this trade:

1) People complaining about 'the rich getting richer' in this trade have it wrong. The Lakers gave up about as equal value as you could ask by trading Bynum. The CP3 trade would have been a travesty, but this one was a fair swap from the Lakers perspective.

2) Claiming that the Cavs blew it here is unfair without knowing what the proposed deal was. If we could have gotten him for just a first round pick, Andy, and a bad contract and we backed out? Yeah, Grant blew it. But look at the haul Magic got in comparison: Two recent first round players, three 1sts, two 2nds, and a vet piece. It took 4 teams to find that.

Where would that haul have come from in the Cavs trade? Maybe LA supplies a 1st and a 2nd, but to provide equal value, we would have had to give the equivalent of Zeller, another player of Zellers youth and promise, two future 1sts, a 2nd, and Andy. Would you have wanted that for a guy that wasnt a lock to stick around after a year? Philly took the gamble, but they had a higher value player that they had been trying to trade for years anyway.

3) It seems to me that the Cavs thinking all along was 'why give up the farm for a guy that we can flat out sign in free agency in 8 months anyway?'. Yes, bird rights give you a big advantage, but if the guy is truly interested in looking at all options and exploring free agency (which has already been reported he will still be doing with Philly), then our chances of signing him shouldn't be any greater or worse than they were if he stayed a Laker. Andrew will still be looking for a team where he can compete while being a top dog. A lot depends on how his season in Philly goes, but if he is only looking for a Bird Rights contract, his agent wouldn't be constantly saying they are going to free agency. Plus, based on Larry Coons article the other day, Bynums maximum earnings may come more from a four year contract with a three years opt-out, thereby maxing out his career NBA earnings based on his age. That kind of contract is nearly equally availabe from all teams with cap room, not just his bird team.

So it doesn't mean we are getting Bynum, but if he truly has had interest in playing here, this move doesn't change much in that perspective. Some, but not much. It just adds another team into the fray.

Howard's twenty-six. Not exactly "close to thirty".

Thats what happens when you are too lazy to look things up before you post. Nonetheless, he's still coming off back surgery in the off season so my point is still valid, he has some question marks to him. LA didn't exactly get a steal. They got the better player and Al Harrington, but Bynum is still the 2nd best center in the league, 24 years old and just entering his prime. They gave up an extremely desirable asset in the deal. That being said, it's a deal they had to make.

Cant let this go. I agree witg The Bullshit Whisperer. Denvers two worst contracts now belong to Orlando. Orlandos worst contract still belongs to orlando. The second best player in this trade didnt end ip in Orlando. The third best player in this trade didnt end up in Orlando. I mean what in the fuck was Orlando smokinh last night? Just the worst.

how about denver sneaking into this trade and snagging iguodala for harrington/afflalo? ujiri probably hung up the first time thinking it was a prank call

I hate the Lakers. That is all.

Harrington is not guaranteed.
Affalo is only about 25.

So the Magic got Vucevic, affalo, moe harkless and three late round draft picks.

Turk will be expiring soon. affalo has an option. Jameer is very tradeable.

Chris Grant would of loved to have those type of assets at his dispoal when he began post lebron.

Hennigan now has the the assets he needs to prove his worth as a GM. some of those contracts. Orlando isnt really pressed to get rid of. They are gonna have to spend money on someone regardless.

For Dwight Howard. That's a joke. They didn't even get someone with future star potential or a guy you could even PRETEND has future star potential (like Marshon Brooks). The Hornets trade Chris Paul and get an unprotected first AND a young stud who can eventually be an all-star. The Nuggets trade Carmelo and get the damn farm. The Magic trade Dwight Howard and the single best asset they got was Aaraon effin Afflalo. That's just bad.

Affalo turns 27 right after the start of the season in October

Also Moe Harkless signed on the 24th of July so how can he be traded yet?

I don't have the reference, but he was signed on July 9th. It wasn't announced until then (24th).
