Four Team Deal Sends Howard to Lakers

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't have the reference, but he was signed on July 9th. It wasn't announced until then (24th).

The only place I've found that references the 9th is a forum post with no source. I thought they waited to sign so they had money for Nick Young who I believe signed on the 9th iirc

I've found multiple sources like this and granted the key word is announced but still can't find any link that states he was signed on the 9th of July:

http://www.nba.com/sixers/news/sixers-sign-rookies-maurice-harkless-and-arnett-moultrie

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – JULY 24, 2012 – The Philadelphia 76ers announced today that they have signed rookies Maurice Harkless and Arnett Moultrie. Harkless was the 15th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by Philadelphia while Moultrie was the 27th overall pick by Miami. The Sixers acquired the rights to Moultrie from the HEAT in exchange for the draft rights to Justin Hamilton (45th overall pick) and a protected future first round pick.

The Nets deal was a turd sandwich. This deal was just a turd. Either way, someone was going to complain. I suspect the backlash is exacerbated by the fact that the Lakers are the ones who landed Dwight.

And for the record, I asked my friend who works with the Magic about the rumored Rockets deal. He's only in the ticket office, so its not like he was right there with Hennigan. But he did say that the Rockets deal was overblown by the media. He wouldn't tell me more, but there you go.

(If you think its some company line, he also told me he thought the deal wasn't great and he, personally, would have taken the Nets deal.)

I doubt the Lakers win it all next year. Just look at the Heat in 2011.

Nash is going to have to keep Howard and Kobe happy, which isn't going to be the easiest thing to do, and on top of that he's try to actually run an offense as well, not just "this possession I will get Dwight a dunk or a post up, next possession I will pass to Kobe so he can force up a bad shot."

Having Mike Brown as the coach is not going to help matters at all.

Another thing I wonder about is how often Pau will even see the ball. He's going to go from probably the second options (he definitely was when they won the title) to the fourth option on offense. For a player than is not defensive-minded, you have to wonder if he will lose interest and really fall off. A lot of players are more likely to play defense hard if they see the ball on offense, and I think Pau is like that.

I'm sure they will win plenty of games on sheer talent alone, but I'm not sure they're going to have the chemistry to win it all. And after the first year, you have a 40 year old Nash, a 35 year old Kobe, and 33 year old Pau.

Mike brown and Kobe will let Nash run the offense. they will also install a princeton offense that will still allow Kobe to get his hands on the ball. Defensive. Brown will have time to install his schemes which they didnt do last year.

On a Nash offense there is no 2nd third or 4th option. the guy in position to take the best shot will get the ball and Nash will not allow Gasol to be passive as he has been the last 2 years.

Everyone will have a clear idea of their roles on this team. most importantly Nash will make it work. he has the rspect of both Howard and Kobe.

Doesnt really matter. Even if he was signed the 24th it just means the NBA wont officially register that part of the trade until august 24th. Agreements are made in principle and approved in principle. just means the player cant join the new team until that date

If you follow the right people on Twitter, and don't actually watch the press conference, its hilarious...

Also, from Marc Spears:

New Lakers center Dwight Howard just said, "I can't run right now" and didn't commit to a return date following his back injury.

haha loved how he took him apart word by word

God I feel dumb... who was he picking apart and what was with that "They Just traded Andre I for you" tweet about? Im just brain dead and tired from work, thanks.

Anyone read the comments? Here's my favorite (in response to someone mentioning how tall Kupchak is compared to Howard:

Remember that:
1) Dwight is 6-feet-9 without shoes (http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Dwight-Howard-2888/), so he really is a short-ish center. 2) Kupchak was listed as 6-feet-9 back in the 70′s when heights were usually measured without shoes on. 3) Dwight has no backbone, so it’s hard for him to stand up straight.

:chuckles:

I love the fact the Magic could have had Brooks/Lopez/Humphries + 4 first rounders or something like that... Nice one Hennigan
