Game 1 | Celtics (0-0) @ Cavs (0-0) | Tuesday, October 17, 2017 | 8:00 PM EST

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Are you talking about the three Love hit? Kyrie was guarding Crowder on the strong side. It was Horford who sucked in on the Rose cut, and Tatum who got caught ball watching leaving Love open.
Yeah but from what I can tell Kyrie was out of position in the first place.

Though maybe Stevens did have him tracking Crowder now rewatching it. Youre right.

Either way he still got abused defensively all night.

Shump hasnt been a plus defender since 2015. He lives off of that reputation. Last year he was a horrible defender, while JR was 2nd or 3rd best on the team to lebron and maybe Love.

No excuse that shump was playing over JR

Decent doesn't mean plus.

And the complaint should be why was Rose on the floor in a defensive situation, instead of JR...not Shump in for Wade. Shump should always be in for Wade in that situation.

But Shump, while not the defender he was a few years ago, is still the better PG defender over JR...that's why he was in in the last minute on Kyrie, not JR. JRs defensive success comes against 2s and 3s.

Additionally, they now have the guy in Kyrie who can really scare you in the 4th quarter, which is something they've lacked in the past.

They did? I mean, unless he's going to score more than IT's near 30 a game--who was also known for being a BIG 4th quarter player--I don't see how Irving changes anything for them.

In fact, I think they're going to put on a closet tank this year. It'd be the smartest thing they could do.

Sloppy ugly nasty turnover after turnover after turnover.

Literally. Gave the ball away. That's it. That was the problem tonight.

Also, lack of timeout calls and obvious rotation changes that should have happened while Boston was eroding our lead.

Pretty sure JR would have been there instead of shumps if JRs back didn't tighten up. Lue said

Love, JR, LeBron, and Crowder went a combined 4-17 from 3P

Many of them were good open shots

Don't think that will be the norm

JR I noticed, was very much more active than last year in the mid range and drive. Looked good tonight although in our current state without IT back yet, a more active JR likely means less 3Ps from him.

Well, there you go.

Still...I can't believe people are complaining about a defensive player being in for a defensive possession while up 4 with less than a minute to go...good lord...

Lue keeps Wade in, and Wade gets toasted in those 40 seconds, the same people baptizing Lue for playing Shump are the same people baptizing him for keeping Shump on the bench with the lead and under a minute to go. Guy will just never win with some people.

Game fucking 1, and I'm already tired of the rush to over-analyze a team in its infancy.

I wanted JR in too. He really does work great as a spacer and defender. Him and Crowder are going to be running with LeBron a lot

Just personal feeling. Might be due to my bias from seeing Kyrie come up big in the 4th time after time, but I always thought he was a much bigger threat in the 4th than Isaiah was last year. That hasn't really changed this year. He's still the same guy who created solo offense and hit clutch shots out of nothing for us last year, and he's sure to do it occasionally against us in the playoffs if we meet.

Oh yeah...of course they will.

But even the lineup people want to see start, and are criticizing Lue for not running with to start games (which S34 members shouldn't be criticizing him for with what we know), Rose/JR/LBJ/Crowder/Love, looked like absolute shit tonight in the 3rd quarter while coughing up a big lead.

Lineups are only a part of things. The team needs to play together and learn each other...that takes multiple games, not practice against your bench players, and certainly not game 1 of the season.

Well we got the job done. Bizzare game obviously.

Lue needs to drastically change his lineups and rotations.

If the Cavs are something like 25-20, in January, is Lue on the hot seat? Please say yes.

I can't hate Kyrie. He will forever be in my heart as one of the players to help break the curse. I can't hate the kid.

The Curse is not broken. It was only taking a nap.

The last two MLB postseasons show that The Curse has come back stronger than ever.

The defense was atrocious!
Wade and Rose in the starting lineup is a joke! The spacing with these 2 is so bad and add their bad defense... Rose our starting pg with only 2 assist?!
Once again, it’s LeBron!

Tough tough injury for Hayward. Looks like a good guy..
Celtics fans are blasting Jae Crowder for undercutting him. Maybe they have a case, maybe they dont, but it's pretty ironic seeing them turn on their ex player so fast for doing something that wasn't clear at all. When you compare that incidence to what Olynyk had done to Love and how they defended back then and even up until now is pathetic.
Kyrie just through one of his typical errand passes that this time put his teammate at huge risk, especially while being challenged by LBJ at the rim.

As for this game.. as I see it, this team is going to be so overmatched against the Warriors with the way their offensive and defensive direction is headed to.. it's not even funny.
Love at the 5 just doesn't work when you can't put up historic offensive numbers. Putting Love at the 5 just to compensate for the lack of spacing isn't going to do jack shit. It works when you can play 5 out and have players that can shoot from everywhere with a player that is able to collapse the defense and is also an elite passer.

in the limited time that Hayward was on the floor, the Cavs D was pretty exposed to cuts, ball movement and as a result the Celtics were able to get wide open looks from 3 or easy points inside. I just can't see the Cavs doing well having no one to guard the inside and having everyone stretched out to the 3pt line with Durant cutting and being guarded by a much smaller player in Crowder with no one to back him up at the rim. Once Durant gets the ball inside the arc in motion, Crowder will have problems guarding him with no one to back him up.

Our offense was brutal to watch, it's not like it was a big surprise for me, but it was just very disappointing to watch how poorly coached we look.
