Giannis Adetokoubo: 18 year old freak of nature

Jesus, his hands remind me of...

Those hands are absurd...

It's pretty common for guys with hands that big to be weak shooters. A common theory is that they have a hard time putting a good spin on the ball. Another thought is that guys with hands that big are more likely to make the NBA for reasons other that shooting.

But those hands are Kawhi Leonard sized hands. He turned into an OK shooter.

3 guys I really like in this draft are Dieng, Giannis and Nogueira. These guys may take a few years to develop but after a couple of years wow. Some mocks show them all being drafted in the teens and some show Giannis and Nogueria being drafted late 1st or early 2nd. I know I'm in the minority but I would be happy if we could get all three and call it a draft. That is if Noel and Porter are gone and we end up with the 5th pick. I would trade the pick and move down.

Why no Karasev? Certainly the most NBA-ready international player in the draft.....

He was really really good this past week at the Summit.

The biggest question with the Greek Freak is projecting him, which is hard to do when he's playing at the competition level and doesn't have a ton of experience outside of his club basketball team..

But from what I've seen on him, I really do like him... I don't think this is some case of another athletic freak with no basketball skill... You can see in the plays he was making happen and some of the skills he was showing that he really is a good basketball player with great athletic gifts... He's raw for sure but the building blocks are that; it seems like the game comes natural to him and he has a wide range of skills to boast..

This is a kid to draft-and-stash and bring over in a year or two... I don't see him being ready to contribute at a high level right now... What he needs most is playing time, experience and exposure and he'll get that overseas at a high-club level, not sitting on the bench in the NBA...

If you're comparing him with Eyenga, this is the difference. This isn't the case of a guy who just catches lobs and dunks violently over small, hapless defenders for half his points. He may be going against terrible competition, but the fact is that you have an 18 year old, who didn't have any kind of coaching until a few years ago, who stands 6'9" with the wingspan of a small plane and is still growing, who's playing point guard and is doing so effectively. You don't see that every day. He's a unique talent...the smoothness of his game is just uncanny.

Really don't know that much about him. I got the impression he was a chucker and in love with the 3 point shot.

Here's one quote I saw but maybe inaccurate:

"Too enamored with the 3 point shot. Instead of looking for other ways to score, he continues to jack 3 pointers even when he's not feeling it ... Needs to become a more consistent outside shooter (shot just 11-45 from 3 in 24% the U18 championships) ..."

Adetkunbo is a player I am enamored of. I like him better than Otto Porter, or any other SF available in this draft. Many people compare him to Kevin Durant. While the physical measurements might lean that way, the basketball skills aren't there, and it would be unfair to put those standards on him. A more accurate comparison would be Nicolas Batum and Paul George. Aside from LeBron James, I think those two would be ideal fits for what this team is building. Adetkunbo has a TON of potential as a player in the League, and I think doing so on the Cavaliers would be a great move.

All that said, I'm pretty sure Danny Ferry takes him at #16. Once testing and measurements are done, I don't think he makes it to #19. As much as I like prospects in the 2nd round, I'd be willing to trade #19 and one, or both, of the 2nd rounders to get him. Or, maybe they can trade back with someone in the 10-15 range?

The two players with the most upside in this draft are Giannis Adetkunbo and Steven Adams. The Cavaliers have a chance to get them both. I really hope they do it.

How come Jan Vesley went so high? Couldn't you say Giannis has a similar case that with good workouts he could go much higher even with his bust potential? I don't think there's a whole lot of star talent in this draft. After pick 5 you are basically looking at likely bench players or role players. I think he could move into the high lottery. I'm kind of scared of his bust potential.

Pass. Yeah he's a physical freak, crazy tools to work with. But in the NBA you have to score the ball to be relevant, and I can't see this guy getting much but a few fast break dunks a game. There will be a lot better value at #19 for a team like ours. All I see on here is preaching how we must be a playoff team next year and not tank, yet we still want to fit the SF position with scrubs or these raw projects.

Actually reminds me of T-Mac: late bloomer, freakish wingspan and tall wiry frame combined with PG like skills. If I remember correctly McGrady was just a run of the milld prospect till he got matched up with Lamar Odom and basically shut him down in a high school All-star game

As much as we debate Tristan vs. Jonas and Dion vs. Drummond, imagine being a Washington fan lamenting how they paired up Jan Vesely with Wall, instead of Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, Faried, or Vucevic. That pick will be haunting them for a while.

Young lamar odom is actually this guys best analogy at the moment, broke jumper and all. I dont see anyone taking him above 15 as his impact is years down the line (unless he has some strong workouts then his stock could shoot up with rumour etc..)

If the cavs had a chance to get him at 19 and there are none of the centre prospects with equal upside then he might be worth it.

I always like there to be one guy on the cavs roster who i can't pronounce so he fits the bill there

Whether you love or hate the Dion/Tristan picks, I think we can all be grateful that at least our GM drafted two guys who appear to know how to play basketball. Not the case with Vesely. :)
