How to IMPROVE RCF?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Here's my input on how to improve RCF---don't allow morons to post bad web site URL's that cause massive virus infections on subsciber's devices. See Cav's Game 3 pre-season exchanges.

Don't download malware. Don't click on pop-up ads, but if you do, close them immediately. Don't "register" your email with obviously shady sites. Is this your first time using the internet?

You're illegaly streaming an NBA broadcast transmitted by unscrupulous people, so you have to be smart. If you can't handle it, pay for NBA leaguepass.

Ben... Glen... I implore you...

Bring back the golden rep trophies.

Very minor thing, but I just noticed that the description for the Trades, Free Agency, & the Draft subforum still begins "Play Grant's advocate"

So it looks like this place is going to super super busy over the next 6 weeks. Ben, does the site have the room to handle all the ban wagon fans that will be jumping aboard?

When I plan for it, yes. Right now I doubled the ram on our box and have added a CDN. I'll add another server next month to cover the new visitors we'll get.

It would be nice if the notification system included replies to a users post in which they were quoted. Slickdeals does this.

They have a much, much, much larger budget than we do. We've got to balance what we can offer with how much money we generate. Every little extra puts a load on the server. That's why you see things like the "Thanks" button, arcade, new post notification... shut off first during busy periods.

The software we are switching to soon has that built-in.

Since Griffin is now officially our GM it would probably be a good time to change this to "Play Griffin's advocate."

Listening to some podcasts from places like cowbell nation for the Kings... and then WFNY for the Cavs... I would love to see more RCF Podcasts on a regular basis leading up to the draft and FA. Get some guests that have seen these top prospects play and it would be amazing. The one we had with windy was good, but it seems like a lot has changed from that moment.I recall we also use to have Chats with people like Windy as well. I would settle for The Bullshit Whisperer :chuckles: since the cavs are leaking him info. Any plans for chats and podcasts Ben?

^The Bullshit Whisperer does have his own chat every Wednesday over at FoxSports Ohio. Not a huge fan of his but it could be something to check out since he apparently is the new Jason Lloyd of the Cavs.

On another note I love this site but the gen pop boards have really gone to pot the past year or two. The CavsTalk board was so active and such an addicting read back in the day but it's degenerated since the glory days when LeBron was here. IMO like the OBR's watercooler, the main Cavs Talk board should really be the crown jewel of the site. If I was a first time visitor and viewed the current iteration of Cavs Talk and the other gen pop boards I probably wouldn't bother coming back. Don't want to sound harsh because I've loved this site for years and appreciate everything you do but many of the quality posters don't bother posting on the gen pop boards anymore. I think that hurts the site as a whole.

On another note can't wait to see all the upgrades on the new RCF.

I had a little talk with myself, and here is what we came up with:

RCF (and soon to be RBF) should have an "invite" feature to grow membership. The bottom line is that most people on this board have other people in their outside lives who they talk cleveland sports with. Colleagues, friends, family. Sure, we could email them on our own accord, and many of us have, BUT it would be more powerful if they were invited into the club. Here are some ideas: do an invite contest - accepted invites with new registrations get entered into a drawing for Cavs/Browns tickets/shwag. Accepted invites give the member who invited rep points;

Other idea is that all RCF members get an automated email once-a-month that sends them an aggregation of the most "liked" posts. If you have that functionality, that would be superb. You could even just send them the links to the posts, so that they have to sign in. I was just thinking about how many members there are versus how many are active. Thought this might help, if possible. It would be a valuable-but-not-too-often reminder about what they are missing. If you are really gangster with functionality, you could only send the email out to people who haven't signed in within 15 or 30 days or something.

Thanks for your consideration,

Dagg
