Hue Jackson and Todd Haley Fired

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Love the idea of Lincoln Riley.

But please keep us the fuck away from the Belichick coaching tree.

If you want to stay away from the Belichick tree, you’d be interested to know that Matt Campbell turned down the evil empire.

Scott Pioli wanted to interview him for a job within the Patriots and Campbell said no. He was more interested in staying at Bowling Green. He later moved over to be OC at Mount Union.

Wasnt that guy the hot name for OSU’s next coach?

Yes. He grew up playing for Massillon Perry & Mount Union. Coached at BG before Toledo.

My main issue with the Belichick tree is that it seems like Bill is the guy who does everything. I mean, when Patricia left to coach the Lions, Bill didn't even appoint a replacement defensive coordinator. I just have very little faith in anyone coming from his camp because I think he operates in a system where he's the genius and everyone else is just doing busy work. It's basically the polar opposite of the Andy Reid tree where he actually does groom guys for future jobs.

That point about Patricia is funny as hell. It's true but it's funny.

Yeah, I just think Bill is a guy who micromanages everything and just delegates rather than actually teaching guys.

Genius types are like that. Subordinates are not empowered to think; they are there to act as merely an extension of the leader. They are not remarkable and easily replaced.

BB is basically Frederick the Great. Without the genius the entire edifice would come crashing down. @The Human Q-Tip

For the Cowher talk in thread?

The contract likely begins at 10 years over 100 million. That's what it took for Gruden to coach the Raiders and I imagine that would be the number for Cowher to come here.

...

There's only two people on the face of the earth I'd consider tossing money like that at to coach.

One is Bill Belichick and the other is Andy Reid. Cowher is not one of those people.

To go into more realistic scenarios? No, Lincoln Riley is not happening. I would be stunned by that and if I were him? I would not take the job. Dude can chill in Norman for the next decade or so, get 10 wins, probably a national title and make bank.

Campbell is intriguing but it still feels like he's far too green at this point.

Man...I wish we had a shot at Bruce Arians. Shame he's hung it up and all.

My biggest concern with Campbell (and Riley for that matter) is the lack of NFL contacts.

How would he fill out a staff? Does he know many people in the NFL that would even be willing to work with him? Would he try to bring his entire group from Iowa State?

The worst thing about a contract like that is it becomes very difficult/expensive to fire the coach if he doesn't work out. Unless you're talking about Bill Belicheck 15 years ago, it just isn't smart.

The biggest issue I have with a coach contract like that is it inevitably upends the GM's significance. A coach being paid that much makes the decisions on personnel as well; the GM merely carries out the orders. I want Dorsey to have a real shot to do his own thing and build the Browns as he sees fit over the long-term. Hopefully, he can find a HC who is willing to work with him, rather than struggle for power against him.

You guys are forgetting slick jimmy runs the show.
